- James Bolam and Alison Steadman star in a tv mini series about a postman who is forced to retire because he can't drive.so on his last day he collects the mail from the town post-box and decides to deliver it by hand,on his bike.

This is one of those gentle, unpretentious, warm and often funny and very poignant stories that the British do so wonderfully. It is a total triumph.
It's a shame they dont make them like this anymore.. not diverse enough.

The Missing Postman is a two-part comedy drama originally broadcast on BBC1 on the consecutive evenings of 29 and 30 March 1997. Adapted from the Mark Wallington novel, it received the award for Best BBC Comedy Drama at the British Comedy Awards in 1997.
There have been many different comments here, mostly positive ones. I have very much enjoyed this film, and, after a lot of thought, I have decided on the one word, which I would choose to describe it. That word would have to be " CHARMING " !

Loved every minute of it, laughed, cried, giggled and sighed. Why aren't there any more of these kinds of films.

Same here, it is a very moving piece in a good way. These are the calibre of films that influenced and have inspired me since I was a nipper and have been fascinated by film from then on ;D

Enjoyed the quest very much. British TV excels at such comedy drama. A gentle land and people that is sadly becoming less recognisable these days.

I watch this movie over and over. It’s even helps me sleep during rough times. I know every frame of this movie that I don’t have to be looking at my phone when it’s on . Fabulous movie and the music score is s masterpiece. Thank you for sharing this movie and I have spread the word to my friends and family.
This is absolutely hilarious. Well done slap stick. Fantastic episode. Not naff at all, it never wears out. Excellent acting, dialogue, and direction. Beautifully done. More evidence of British television superiority.
What a beautiful musical score and with the credits rolling at the end I asked myself how many of us actually would have ever considered being like "The Missing Postman"? A wonderfully poignant production and so glad I came across it again here on RUclips....
What a brilliant movie, great story.
When you get to a certain age in life you have to follow your heart not your head, break free from the humdrum of life and live free.
That all sounds good, looks good on paper, it is even nice to dream about. But all those poor bastards who got robbed by their gold digging ex's and the courts aren't feeling that sort of love in their retirement.

The first part is fine the 2nd is about adultery...
@Gordon Bricker. This film has got nothing to do with adultery. It's partly about a couple staying together even though they aren't happy in each other's company. If the postman had found the Scottish widow and hung up his bag on her coat pegs, not to finish his delivery and the wife had let her dinner date up to her newly papered and painted bedroom, then it would have been about adultery

People were not meant to be unfaithful to one another once they made a commitment to love, honor, and cherish one another, just as they were not meant to be unfaithful or disobedient to God. When someone commits infidelity, that person is going against God’s plan. It also requires a callousness of the heart that is insensitive to the emotions of their partner.

The party get away scene ;D))) ahhh man had one of my favourite quotes " Don't forget your party bag" that masterful throw away line had me in giggle fits ;D))) Supa ! supa cuuute story , inspiring family , friends or solo watch movie . Probably many of us can relate to the idea of just vanishing for a certain amount of time or maybe even for good.

Nothing like a Brit film now. Now you wd have to have 'diversity' and all humour wd offend some num num somewhere. Oh and it would be called 'little England'. This was the Britain that was great.

I loved watching The Missing Postman.
It had me from the beginning.
It made me smile from inside, yes it was that good.
In the end they both got to do what they really wanted to do. They both ended up very happy.
I enjoyed every minute of it.

Beautiful movie of human kindness and sincerity. I enjoyed every bit of the movie...
Loved it. So down to earth, no pretentiousness. It reminded me of what I did when I retired. Took off to another country to live for 10 years. Now it is time to return home. We only have one life.... live it!!!

this was a great story, and at some point it was filmed in Largs, West Coast of Scotland where we just moved, it was even more fun because we travel with the postman to the island with a ferry that nowdays is only for the islanders because of covid restrictions. I totally loved what the postman did, traveling to deliver letters on a bike, which is what someone in Switzerland is doing to this day, of course letters not through the Royal Mail, but private letters that friends start to give the Swiss postman and from then on it is what he does every summer!!! Great stuff, thank you for uploading it

Realizing that there was no love, no communication, and total uncompatable existence with his wife, he ventures forth with a new life with a new partner. That is the main plot. The mail business was the way he found Linda. Love it and have watched it several times already.

Lovely being reminded of this again - the footage of James Bolam and Alison Steadman's house is all filmed in my road in Poole, Dorset. It was a tad surreal leaving for work each morning for a few weeks and finding Alison Steadman talking to my cat on the front wall! Oddly poignant seeing so much footage of Hamworthy and Poole from 24 or so years back and noticing how much has changed, just as everywhere does of course.

I watched this film from Italy and loved every single moment of this magnificent story. At first I thought it was a detective story, in fact I found it in the column of the "next videos" after watching Lord Peter Wimsey. The Missing Postman moved me and made me travel far. Thank you
