Centuries ago, the Maker -- the creator of all things -- shaped the Fade as his first world but then grew bored and left it behind to create a second realm, Thedas. To separate these realms the Maker put a barrier called The Veil in between them, but unbeknownst to him, those from the Fade could still peer into Thedas, and they did so with jealousy.
Corrupting whispers crossed over the veil, compelling a group of Magister Lords to enter the Golden City in the Fade, only to return as tainted creatures. The Magisters, now called Darkspawn, located the Old God Dumat and corrupted him into an Archdemon, triggering the First Blight, a terrible war. This conflict ended only when a group of warriors known as the Grey Wardens came forward to destroy Dumat and push the darkspawn back into the underground highways underneath Ferelden.
The Grey Wardens succeeded in keeping the darkspawn at bay for three more blights by infusing themselves with darkspawn blood, which allows them to kill the seemingly immortal Archdemons. But now with the revival of Urthemiel, the fifth dragon god (also somehow The Dragon of Beauty), the Darkspawn are now primed to wipe Ferelden off the map.

To be fair isn't that the basis of religion. To give an idea how we were created and how things around us were made.

True. He mentions, though, that he saw the Golden City, but it was black. So magisters probably didn't corrupt it, they were somehow fooled by their gods.

serock3 Yeah, it's arguable if he exists. He wasn't the best god though, failed in his first quest and just dumped his first creations, then dumped the second ones too... twice! Christian God is so much better!
Superficial. You got a couple of things wrong.
1. Centuries ago? Many, many, MANY centuries ago, perhaps...
2. The Maker didn't grow bored. He was disappointing in his first creations, the spirits.
3. The Grey Wardens drank the blood of the darkspawn before defeating the first blight, not after. Otherwise, they couldn't have defeated the first blight.
The rest is acceptably accurate.
Except its questionable wether the maker actually even exists...
1. Centuries ago includes "Many, many centuries ago" it's not a specific amount of time.
2. Saying he was bored is just another way of saying he was disappointed in them. If you realised the world and it's inhabitants were all boring then you'd be disappointed in them too.
3. He didn't say that they drank the blood after the first Blight, he said they managed to keep the Darkspawn at bay because they drank the blood, allowing them to kill the Archedemons. (Which kinda had to happen to stop the first Blight)

Love lore, but just got to say if I didn't play the series myself I would be misled. You make it sound like there's actual proof of the maker. In a lot of games sometimes you talk to or actually fight gods, but the maker hasn't been shown yet. Even in the game some people doubt his existence, it's a matter of faith.

ranek1990 As far as I'm concerned, the Maker is real. Just that this lore makes it seem like he's one of those gods that directly intervenes with mortals.

Ultimately I think the story is better because there is no solid proof of The Maker's Existence. The game does not force you to be inherently religious in any way, your character can choose to follow The Chantry or they can be Agnostic or even Atheist. I think Dragon Age is the first game that honestly balances it very well, making a few coincidences that do seem like Divine Intervention is occurring (like the Sacred Ashes of Andraste)
But then there are also moments that you can directly mess with said Divine Interventions and make the 'Evil' decisions (I don't think the Maker wanted anyone to pour Elder Dragon Blood on his wife's remains, but almost everyone did it at least once to unlock the Reaver Specialization, even if a lot went back right after and left them where they were)
Ultimately, if the Maker does exist, he does not force you to do anything, nor does he directly punish your mistakes (if at all) he lets you have that freedom, and whether you choose to believe The Maker is always watching, or if you decide that There Is No God, it's a legitimate choice you can choose in your own self-narration of the story.
I do hope that Bioware is careful about letting us choose what Faith our characters have when Inquisition comes out though, because I don't want my characters to be Atheistic, or Worshipping, but kind of like Alistair, in that they do believe The Maker exists but they choose to worship or respect Him in their own special way.

Special thanks to Bioware expert Jessica Merizan who was on-call to counsel in pronunciation. I've played the game and had no idea how to pronounce "Urthemiel" other than "SUPER ZOMBIE DRAGON".
Technically Fen Haral created the Veil to separate the Fade from Thedas, but this back when Bioware wasn't planning on sequels, long before they made Solas. You can tell because they actually have a few revoked endings. One of them being Cullen going insane and striking down innocent mages.

I really liked Dragon Age: Origins. I actually cared about the characters and what happened to them. Unlike the sequel... Is it weird that a mute (of your own design) has personality, character and likeability as a protagonist a lot more than Hawke?
Origins gave you the opportunity to project yourself onto your character.
I actually kinda like 2. Don't get me wrong, it was inferior in whole lot of ways compared to Origins, but I still liked the characters( They were still shells of Dragon Age: Origins) but they had some charm.(some of them...*cough Anders*cough)
origins is amazing the only thing i hated was the romance. in the dlc they had great characters with awesome personalities i would prefer to conquer over borrigan or boring backstory bard. yes i hated her backstory and thnought it was boring

I have to say, you post made me laugh a bit, because you mention liking DA2 characters, but the one you mention having charm is a DA:O character.
ShadowHatter I don't think I worded that well. I meant to say that Anders in Dragon Age 2 was devoid of any charm. He was actually pretty funny in Awakening.

you also forgot to mention that it was the Old Gods that lured the magisters into the Golden City... that part is kind of important.

Love how the standard soldiers get a buckler and a tiny knife in this video, if that were true then Thedas would have been long conquered by the darkspawn (the Grey wardens aren't the only ones fighting them you know!)

Dragon Age: Orgins, is an amazing game. I feel like I'm the only person who enjoyed the lore and characters. Combat doesn't have to be like Skyrim or FPS to make the game good. If all you care about is shooting and stabbing things. Get out.
I'm really annoyed by all these ignorant comments about this game. A lot of the people probably don't like the type of game this is and would rather shoot and stab everything. And some people just hate RPGs and character relationship statuses all together. I think this game is great and don't just go on this video to complain about it and hate on the game.

I hope this is not the last we see of Chad helping out in these now he is no longer officially part of Maker/Polaris. I hope much like how Dodger is now not technically still part of Maker/Polaris, but is contracted in to do the Daily Byte, Lore and Friend Zone etc. that Chad also becomes a regular outside person contracted in from time to time to do shows for them.

I hope we get to see some more with DA2! I can already imagine some jokes for that one. Possibly with repeating rooms with Hawke going 'Wait, haven't I been here before?'.
Hmm... I wonder if we could possibly see a LORE for Dragon Age: Inquisition soon, since that is coming out in a few months.

Dragon age honestly gives anxiety cause ever since I wanna knooooowww more like extra about details its like vro everyone comes at me with the story then I wanna whats right and what's wrong then once I click a video I'm like waitttt is this right????????
Missed that the grey wardens were pushed out of Ferelden leaving it now defenseless, although I'm not sure what is supposed to count as lore for these things.

Thedas is only one continent. Not the physical world itself. And that's only if you follow the Chantry's teaching, as there's some controversy surrounding the creation of the physical plane in respect to the fade. And I don't think it was the "first Darkspawn," as in the corrupt Tevinter magisters, that found the first Old God, since they had no knowledge of its location, they would have had to search much of the Deep Roads to find him, but I'm not too keen on the first blight's history.

That's really weird, i just took a break from playing DA:O - Awakening and this poped in my sub box.

It wasn't mentioned, but the Dwarves in this game take so much shit. They're nearly extinct because wheneve a blight "ends" the darkspawn just go back to their underground front doors. Those ungrateful surface blighters will be sorry they never bothered to help when there are no more dwarf warriors to keep the darkspawn from bursting out of the earth like a festering wound.

I had a whole melee team, you cant find a more sucking experience than that...but I liked the choice so I struggled through...

Should i start playing Dragon Age? Iv'e been wondering if i should buy it but i'm not 100% convinced i should get it, can anyone please tell me about DA, I played the Mass Effect trilogy (AWESOME) and i was wondering if it is similar as an rpg or am i mistaken?
You should at least play Origins. DA2 is closer to Mass Effect 2 with the linear plot but they are good games in my opinion. Like a fantasy RPG in Mass Effect style I guess.

few things Dragon age origins was the best (good story telling and plenty of likable characters besides a few issues it wasn't to bad) Dragon age 2 SUCKED DONKEYS ASS it recycled dungeons and just put a different name on them none of the character's were likable and the story was over all boring as fuck XD

I miss Dragon age being about darkspawn. I much prefered being part of an order of badass darkspawn killing machines fighting back an unending tide of darkness and crushing the fifth blight before it even started. As opposed to this mages vs templar crap and the demons are escaping. Fuck that shit I dont want to be no unlikable "champion" or some inquisitor albeit being part of an Inquisition is allot cooler then da2s thing and is cool in its own right but comparing it to being a grey warden it just doesn't even compare.

The only dragon age game that counts in my opinion. As a fan of a lot of things that people generally despise I sympathize with all the flack DA2 fans and DA:I fans are going to get but damn..... all the good will Origins had was totally pissed away

So does anyone think it will be worth preordering Dragon Age; Inquisition? I realize that they have probably learned something at this point, but I'm still a little hesitant after Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3's ending which was so full of plot holes and left a bad taste in your mouth afterwards on its own that the developers could have put in a piece of Swiss cheese.
I know they made a whole lot of tweaks after Dragon Age 2 and they are planning on sticking in a Diablo-esque Multiplayer Co-op like they did with ME3 (They still kept the RNG store system by the way and the multiplayer has absolutely no effect on the single player campaign this time), but that aside I can't think of a single thing that is supposed to make it any more special in comparison to the first or second game at their finer points except they made the maps bigger, more baddies, less copy pasted dungeons with inaccessible doors, and making mounts a necessity; plus more dragon fights.
I mean they did advertise that there could be at least 64 separate endings, but that sounds more like the Fallout series or what they did with Dragon Age; Origins where the ending is in its finer points; like giving the barmaid in Red Castle the Inn so it is renamed to "The Warden's Rest" with there also being two or three main endings like they have since done with literally every single game in their other story based series.
On the bright side however, Bioware is developing Dragon Age; Keep which is basically their fix for all of the continuity errors from DA:O to DA:2. That'll make it a whole lot easier to create a custom history to import in comparison to playing through the game again in order to make one different choice so you don't get screwed over or out of a story like PS3 players had to deal with once ME3 came out or just straight out losing your companions from Dragon Age Origins during the transfer to Dragon Age 2 (namely Nathan Howe) if you don't have them there with you during the confrontation with The Mother and The Architect.
Dragon age 3 come out already , or i'll have to re-install Dragon Age 1 & 2 !!!
