    One of the biggest advantages of being a "Nuke " is that you're around some highly intelligent and very diligent people. Also, your post navy career prospects are very good.

      I see EMD 2 stroke engines there at 2:17 so the stem from the reactor must be powering these 2 strokes? Yes i was on a gas powered lm2500 frigget that can run 87 octane leaded.

      NOT intelligent. Navy personnel in general are very unprofessional & an unhealthy working environment. Being surrounded by REAL engineers that got college degrees in engineering is better.

    So I have a 3.9 GPA in Physics and already have my BS. I am currently going to a Ph.D. program in nuclear engineering, they decided to disqualifies me because of a college transcript that I have when I was 18 and was in a dark place of my life. I joined the Air Force to turn myself around and get a degree at a different college. I never got a grade of under a B since I joined the Air Force 6 years ago but they are going look at my transcript from 10 years ago to tell me that I am a poor student with horrible academic record. I try explaining it to them that this was a bad time of my life and I have change so much since I enlist in the military and would like to continue serving my country in the Navy. They told me that they will only look at my cumulative GPA and that they are doing me a favor since I would not be able to survive course work at Naval school on my poor academic record. Me having a 3.9 Physics degree, know that these people does not know how to listen.

      I actually have something like a .5 gpa in my freshman college year and they pushed me into becoming a nuke really quickly. I think that you may have just been unlucky in terms of the people who reviewed you.

      Don't let your academic past stop you from your goals. There are plenty of opportunities out there to include CBRNE in the Army. Based on recent news, both the Navy and the Army failed to meet their recruiting goals. With you academic background, you should look at the Warrant Officer or commissioned officer path. Avoid the military recruiter offices and network/call the college ROTC offices. Best wishes.

    If one is nuclear enlisted they know how to repair. Are nuclear officers able to repair? do they know a hammer from a screwdriver?

    • @jakefaulkner7351
      @jakefaulkner7351 2 года назад +3

      The enlisted side has three rates, MMN, EMN, and ETN, each with their own specific qualifications. The officers are trained to oversee all of them, they do not do maintenance as they are not specifically trained on each part of the reactor, they basically get an overall course of the three jobs put together.

      While very late answering this question, some enlisted are able to go to the academy. So an officer may have essentially the same training as enlisted, they just went to the academy sometime through their nuke schooling.

      They are no different than any other officer, they are pencil pushers. They tell the chief what they want done they tell the CWO what they want done but they don’t do anything themselves but they get the credit for other peoples work they get the ribbons and they get the Medals because of other peoples hard work.

    • @chasewatkins5547

      Since no one has answered your question yet, I will. The enlisted with master one of the three rates. The officers are jacks of all trades, master of none

      Scooter Topping Though I could imagine someone designing a system to automatically detect problems and adjust the tasks being performed accordingly, meaning only one nuke theoretically needs to be on board any vessel at any given time to supervise the computer operations, except there are shifts. Has anyone ever designed a system like that?
