Piston Rod Installation of a Reciprocating Compressor | Complete Guide | Industrial Knowledge Series

Double Acting Reciprocating Compressor Piston Rod Installation Procedure part of Complete Reciprocating Compressor Maintenance and Operation Guide.
Prior to Starting up, operating, or maintaining gas compression equipment, please refer to the appropriate Packager's Operating Manual and the Compressor Original Equipment Manufacturer's Maintenance and Repair Manual for safety precautions and warnings.
Special Tools Needed:
Slugging Wrench
Piston Nut Spanner
Piston Entering Sleeve
Stepwise Procedure:
1. Move Crosshead to inner dead center.
2. Inspect Piston Entering Sleeve for Damage.
3. Install Piston Entering Sleeve making sure not to overtighten.
4. Except for non-lube cylinders, lubricate the cylinder bore, piston rod, piston rings, wear bands, and piston with cylinder oil.
5. Install piston rings and wear bands into the piston grooves making sure to stagger ring gaps.
6. Guide piston rod into the cylinder and carefully slide into the packing case otherwise it can damage the cylinder packing hence resulting in leakage from the cylinder section.
7. Carefully compress the rings making sure not to pinch fingers when the piston is going into the cylinder.
8. Install piston nut spanner.
9. Remove piston entering sleeve.
10. Lubricate the piston rod threads and install the balance nut.
11. Lubricate face of balance nut.
12. Push piston rod into crosshead and back balance nut off.
11. Turn the piston in and set crank end clearance.
12. Tighten the balance nut and then set screws.
13. Remove piston nut spanner and install cylinder head.

One note of caution should be made to be certain piston contacts CE head and then backed off one half turn before balance nut contacts crosshead. I know you implied this but I am only trying to add more value to a great video. Peace be with you
