The Kef 105.4 was second to the Kef 105.2, the 105.2 replaced the original Kef 105 which was not in production by the time the 105.4 came out. The 104.2 then came out, and then the Kef 107. In technical terms it always felt that it was the 105.4 in third place, and most suited to domestic settings in the UK, with the 105.2 being its bigger brother and more technically advanced, but the 105.4 many reviewers felt a better balanced better imaging system, it just lacked bass, many preferred the T33 to the more expensive T52, and as such the T52 was phased out as we see in later reference models. Kef then released the 104/2 coupled cavity with a T33 and two B110 and two internal 8" drivers, then the flagship Kef 107 again with a T33, B110 and two 10" bass drivers in a coupled cavity, later with their coaxial drivers, Kef then went with the 105/3. The T33 tweeter is preferred for the 105.4. The 105.4 voicing was based on that tweeter, as long as you service the T33 its usually fine. Not sure what crossover work you will have done but it would have needed work considering the difference in tweeter parameters and dispersion, also the protection circuit and S-Stop features again were simplified over the 105.2 and designed with the T33 limits in mind. I have always loved the Kef 105.4, 105.2 and original 107. The later 107.2 had a early metal dome that was not a snice as the fabric T33, and the second generation Kube was rather limited.
Thanks for the write up ! Wonderful information. I have the 104.2 as well and have always wanted 107's I hope one day to have the 107's to replace my 104.2's. as for the tweeters I just preferred the T52 over the T33 that being said they are both fantastic and I've kept the T33's if I ever want to switch back. Thanks for watching your support is much appreciated 👍
