Hi. Thank you for giving us such outstanding work for free. The result is simply awesome and the renders are a pleasure to see. No matter how silly it might seem to create a high poly model to bake textures out of it and then wrapping those textures on a low poly model, it still is the way most CGI is achieved even today. Even after you've shared the textures, I think I'm still going to try to recreate this in Blender, just because of how pleasant was to see your workflow and for the pleasure of modeling in Blender. Cheers and . . . thank you, this time, for posting this video.

Thank you Mr ormandy
Hello Jake. Thanks a lot for the kind words. For the still render inside Cinema 4D I used Hair to add strands. Simulation and everything else was done in Houdini. There I made a custom strands generator.
To create a height texture I applied a black and white gradient to the mesh. From black at the bottom to white on the top. Hope it helps. Best of luck.
@@Wappie21 sure, nothing special there. I just used the planar projection and aligned it so that the gradient is projected from the side covering all mesh and as mentioned above made it black at the bottom part and white at the top. Cheers.
I am not using ProRender, but it should be pretty straight forward. The only issue would be, if the current version of ProRender does not support displacement. But even then you could maybe get away using only bump mapping if it is not a closeup shot.
Hello and thank you for sharing your work. im trying to replicate this material in blender by following your video, im a little stuck at 2 minutes. can you tell me what your doing exactly with the grid? I would greatly appreciate. subscribed and liked
Hello. Thank you very much for liking and subscribing though it is not a required condition so that I answer 😃 The yellow grid at approximately 2 minutes is a projection preview in Cinema 4D. Basically what I do is I applied a gradient to the whole mesh and make sure the gradient is projected from the side and fits the mesh. So that the black part of the gradient is at the bottom of the mesh and white at the top. So that when the camera is looking at the mesh from top to bottom, white parts of the mesh appear closer to the camera and black further. It is a common trick to fake depth map/pass. So in Blender you would unwrap the model with Projection from View option or play around with the mapping in shader. Hope it helps.
@@DimaShishkov It should be a requirement! I'd reply "huh?" on all the unsubscribed comments until I herd dat *ding*. Thank you for the response. I understand now. Thank you!

Nice. Thanks for sharing. I probably never would have thought of approaching it like this. By the by, was that a sample of Monica’s Misty Blue at the beginning?

tried 4 times and doesn't work... did exactly what was on the screen. Why are my textures always always randomly patterned? I did EXACTLY what you were doing and I got a different result. Is there something that people commonly miss or should I just give up c4d forever? This has really messed me up.
Sorry, as I mentioned in some previous comments, it wasn't meant to be a step by step tutorial, more like a walkthrough for more experienced users. It is hard for me to guess why exactly you do not get the result you are after. Do not give up.
