Sometimes you even save money flying in early. No guarantee those early morning flights are going to be cheap. If you save $100/person on cheaper air the day before, you have made up for the hotel cost. Can be a win/win
All the ports we leave from are not close. We always fly in the day before because "murphy" is always in play. If international 2 days prior to enjoy the city.
On my very first cruise, apparently the time for my flight the morning of was cruise was changed to an earlier time and I didnt find out until I got to the airport. Granted this was before cellphones, gmail and apps and all of the technology that we have now with notifications. Then the morning of a cruise out of San Juan, I almost missed my flight because of super long security lines that I totally under estimated. Since then, I have made it a point to fly in the day before. The one night hotel stay and food costs are worth it to not potentially lose thousands of dollars by missing a cruise or even filing an insurance claim.
I am looking at taking the Amtrak train from BWI to Philly. Is the Philly train station close enough to Uber/taxi to the port? Is this something you can help book for us?
If you are going to take Amtrak I'd still go a day early though. While risk of delays are lower because Amtrak owns most of the track they use along the Northeast Corridor delays are still a common occurrence because they aren't the only train using those tracks and if one of those trains breaks down (or some other unforeseen accident) that could severely delay the train. If you do decide to leave the day of I'd do it early as possible just incase you have to pivot and get a bus or rent a car.

excellent point
100%. I always do that comparison and with a family of 4, the savings can be substantial
We always drive in, but we go a day or two early to ensure our trip makes it in time
That is perfect
