The official video of this song is of Morrissey walking through James Deans home town and the cemetery where he’s buried. You could check out The Cure song A Forest they were around at the same time as The Smiths and had an equally large Indie music following

Smiths fans were devastated when they broke up. I think this song had mixed messages. He was talking about the Smiths and particularly Johnny Marr. It was a good lay.....it was a good gig, while it lasted.

Above all, a brave artist. Exposing himself as he did and does, this boy deserves respect. It is known that Robie Williams, ex singer of Take That played this tune very loudly whenever reporters and paparazzis remained in front of his place in LA, especially due to Morrissey's epic lyric part "Why do you come here?"
Anyway, as a fan since 1984, I have this feeling that many of these songs recorded during the last moments of the band and shortly after the split, has references to Johnny Marr, the guitar man. And Suedehead is an explicit example. I Won't Share You, the last track on Strangeways, is another tune with this same vibe, a lament. Of course Moz included some ambiguous verses in order to create some sort of doubt about this person he is talking about. During those days Johnny was working with other bands like The Pretenders, New Order and singer Bryan Ferry, for the total horror of Morrissey, who was not keen on allowing his guitar hero to do such contributions in other projects.

You should check out the music video to this song it really fits the vibe of the music! Fun fact in an early interview when morrissey was apart of the smiths he said he hates music videos and never wants to do them 😂

Pretty much almost every song of the Smiths is about Morrissey being in unrequited love with Marr
