    Thanks! I use a variety of different software including photoshop, illustrator, HTML5, Final Cut, GarageBand and a few other products. Each video takes me a long time to create. My rule of thumb is each minute of video takes about 12 hours to create, so a 7 minute video takes me about 84 hours of development time.

    No there are no missing observations. In variable view the rows equate to columns in the data view. In this case I have three columns (Gender, Score, Age_Group) in the data view and I have 18 observations.

    Yes I think a Two Way ANOVA sounds reasonable. If you want you can post a longer question on MyBookSucks FB page (see link in video description) and you can include an attachment with a message. I am curious what are your two independent factors and dependent variable. And when you write you have 11 variables do you mean observations?

  • @statisticsfun
    @statisticsfun  11 лет назад +1

    Right... in Hypothesis testing it seems like you are doing the opposite thing. I just added a link to a playlist on Hypothesis testing (two short videos). You can find the link in this videos description.

    James, SPSS will generate the exact p value for you. As long as the p value is less than your confidence level (p < .01 or 99%, p < .05 or 95%), you should be good to go.

    Once again your video starts well, and certainly gives a clear explanation of how to calculate numbers. Please add more about what are the actual conclusions. As this is observational data, it is incorrect to say that either of these factors has a significant "effect" on score. That implies causation. What you really found was that there was a difference between the mean score for the boys and the mean score of the girls that was so large that it would be unlikely to occur if there really was no difference between these groups. So that leads us to reject the idea that the means are equal and say that the mean scores of boys are significantly different from the mean scores of girls. As we also found that at least one of the age groups has a mean score that is significantly different from the other age groups, we now need to examine some post hoc tests to see which groups are different. And then, even more importantly, we need to look at how large those differences are to see if they have any practical significance as well as statistical significance. We need more videos that develop statistical thinking, not just ability to calculate and blindly follow rejection rules. Thanks.

    thanks for nice tutorial, I just wonder why the score, as dependent variable, is registered as categorical nominal, while it is continuous; and in independent variables, which suppose to be both categorical, the age-GROUP is registered as continuous. Does it affect the analysis in the SPSS?

    • @statisticsfun
      @statisticsfun  9 лет назад

      +David Jahanlu The most important thing is to make sure you have all your variables classified correctly. SPSS takes care of the rest of it for you.

    I think an interaction is more than simply the additive effect of each IV on their own. It has to be an effect that is more than what is explained by looking at the effects of the IV's independently.

    Thanks ,good video. Can I ask whats the difference between using a Univariate analysis of variance and a repeated measures in SPSS ? are they the same thing ?

    • @statisticsfun
      @statisticsfun  9 лет назад

      Ian Dunican I included a link to a video on SPSS Repeated Measures (not mine but it should help you) Univariate is using just one variable (uni, as in uni cycle). This is frequency diagrams, calculating the mean, or standard deviation. Imagine tracking Math Anxiety. I could calculate Math Anxiety at one point in time. Repeated measures allows you to track a variable over more than two time frames. I could measure math anxiety, then have people watch some of my videos and measure them again, I could do this several times (repeated measure).
      Repeated Measure is just that. I am tracking the same variable over multiple time frames. Make sense?

    If anyone is here 11 years later, for interpreting output in SPSS for factorial ANOVA, we would not have to calculate F crit to determine significance, correct? We would just look at the P-values? Also, are "gender" and "age_group" considered main effects while "Gender * Age_Group" is considered an Interaction?
