    I'm 73, and looking for something to keep me occupied when I finally retire. I remember building plastic ship models as a boy, and a few balsa and tissue paper aircraft, and enjoying a model railroad.
    I never achieved anything like the standards of your model building, but the way you present your videos is very encouraging and I'm preparing to invest in my first 1/350 warship kit. Which one? Well, that's not quite decided yet. Like my Dad used to say...."It's the decisions that kill ya!"

    Very nice collection - your own Naval Review! The Belfast is always a good looker, but the paint scheme of the Italian ships is striking and brilliant 😊

    Great collection ! 👍👍👍 first thing came to mind , dusting all of them . 🤔 I only have 4 big ones and was a pain in the caboose until I started to use my airbrush to blow the dust away. The rest in 1/700 are in display cases. Thank you for sharing and hope you have a great/safe week, Tony

      I usually keep them in a shelf where they are protected from dust to a certain degree, and from there on, they are on their own, I usually dont dust off any of my models, I'm too lazy for that :D Thanks tony, have a nice week as well!

    You need more rainy day's if the result is a video like this.... Great collection.... I now know that PE stands for photo etched after watching "Fun In Scale" I love the Olympia model, it's not the biggest but there is just something about it. At 7:08 I think that is the Brooklyn Bridge. Thanks for all the work that went into the making of this video, that was a lot of models to gather up, clean/dust, layout on the floor and then make the recording, then you had to pick them all up and put then away. Thanks for your time and work......

      Hi mike! Thanks very much! I am really happy with such nice comments! The olympia is definitely one interesting ship, with the camouflage and her unique shape amongst mostly 20th century ships! Gathering them was fun, though, because i didnt even remember i had some of those, but putting them back,... I'm glad they are safe again, more than one mast was killed making this video :)

      Hello Stig! Thanks very much! I only recently finished the Olympia and have made a separate building video of her, if you are interested! The railing posts are quite thick on the kit, thats true. But i used them anyway, was too lazy to make new posts :) with railing rope around them, it made for a nice addition to the model

    Hi. Nice vid. Question: generally what scale ship is best buy WRT value? I am thinking of a 1/350 DD to start. They do not seem to be over the top with the railing which is intimidating to me.

    • @funinscale2892
      @funinscale2892  3 года назад +1

      Hi! I think the best value to get into 1/350 ships are modern ships from Trumpeter. There is a kit of USS Independence or USS Freedom, both LCS types, which costs sometimes even less than 20€, but you get a nice model with even PE parts in the set. If you are more interested in older kits, i would either recommend Tamiya's very limited 1/350 range, they are expensive but have a wonderful fit, or a medium sized Trumpeter kit, like a HMS Roberts Monitor or a HMS Kent/Exeter, Town/county class cruiser in general, they also have great fit, PE parts included and more detail than tamiya. I would not start with 1/700 because there can be really small parts and tedious assembly

    Great looking ships all.
    I notice none if your ships have rigging. What reason do you have for not providing rigging?
    For myself, I honestly suck at putting any kind of rigging on any ship so that is why I don't have it on my ship models. I do more damage than needed to have been done. I have enough fun with PE, I really don't need the hassle on running stretched spru between equally thin plastic pieces.
    Again, great looking ships - a nice collection.

    • @funinscale2892
      @funinscale2892  3 года назад +1

      Hi Bill! Thanks very much, i am glad you like my collection! I tried making rigging from pulled sprue but ditched that idea rather quickly because this was such tedious work, as you say, its not fun, its more like a chore. I used some lycra thread on some models at occasion, but its also very difficult and one has to concentrate as the lycra is so thin. And in the end, as it is so thin to be in scale, you dont even see it properly. So i usually skip this step as it is more of an annoyance for me, but it sure looks great for all the modelling masters, especially on sailing ships!

Or a french cruiser, like the Algerie or La Galissoniere, there are so many interesting ships that no models exist of (that i know, at least),. What would you like to see as a model?
