It's always impressive to me how LVD can not only pilot so many different archetypes, but correctly assess the game state of every matchup that the particular deck he's playing finds itself in. He knows how to stay in the game, turn the corner, and finish, and he does it nearly optimally in decks with incredibly complex lines available to it. Over. And. Over. That will never not be wild to me!
I don't often enjoy watching Blue/White Control, but this was such a fun watch that the time really flew! Good piloting from a great deckmaker helps you like archetypes you normally scoff at.
gotta give you major props for the concise and informative content, the no-frills editing and calmly talking through the plays makes for excellent vids
I was toying around with mindsplice last night after opening a few in packs, but couldn't commit to burning the wildcards. With LVD I can cash in my wildcards with confidence!
Agreed. I've been running a version using Prologue to Phyresis to get the poison counters ticking. Wandering Emperor plays well too. Somewhat surprised to see no Serum Snare's or Reject Imperfections, maybe even a Lier?
Wow. I can't usually play control but I tried this deck and it's broken. I was running out of cards so I dropped a few and added 2 skrelv's hive. This is my ladder deck now. So far 12-2. Thanks you truly are a legend!
Nice video as always, they're a pleasure to watch. I've been enjoying a similar deck as the one in match 3, with a jankier brew. I don't play Third Way Iconoclast (doesn't impact the board when it enters, not suited against aggro), but I play Vampires' Vengeance, and Yotia Declares War which is a fun card in this build, I love when I get to kill a Sheoldred by tapping my entire board. I also play 2x Levitating Statue for control match-ups, sometimes it gets to kill their planeswaker (it also synergises with Yotia Declares War, it can get super large and end a game out of the blue)
20:00 I was thinking no rush in placing the oil counters you can always do it as a response and keep the counters open in case of a second leveler (which happened to happen but I think it was right regardless of hindsight). So I've played something similar but in Esper since day 1 (just because I like the Esper colors), and I think people are sleeping in White Sun's Twilight, it was my far the car I was looking for the most in every game, and it's a board clear that isn't dead in control matchups. I also had sheoldred to and stole a few games with scrutiny healing for like 14. A bit memey but it was working well against Mythic opponents I was at like 48% winrate without having optimized the list. Also found Blue Sun very nice against some of the annoying creatured with shield counters. If you clone a big creature people also ten to instantly explode. I only had 3 pay off cards (and the 4 scrutiny).
I cannot express how much I enjoyed this particular video. Maybe it's that it was a control deck, maybe it was LVD's calm voice, maybe it was that super cool artifact. But I really enjoyed this.
I don't know how I forgot about the white march! I built a deck like this but had been using Vanish into Eternity for a sort of catch all removal which can also easily get creatures if you have your apparatus going
Thought about Vanish as an extra answer to Planeswalkers mainly, but March and Absence are a little more efficient when you need an early answer to creatures.
I've had some success with this deck including some red for Bitter Reunion. An instant win with White Sun's and then haste is a great win from nowhere.
This is actually a really interesting brew. I didn't think that it would work from the deck tech you gave at the beginning but yeah, it does. Control is normally boring but when you're playing 10 and 12 mana spells that makes it fun again :D
This deck is pure evil to me, a relatively new player who likes Green, Black, and White. It's the first LVD video where I was rooting for the opponent. Ah... I guess now I'm having a "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" moment. The silver lining is that this deck is way more respectable than the Haughty Jinn decks, which are so monotonous to play against.
Finally someone playing UW control and not playing the fastland, which makes no sense in control decks Could play Ossification maybe, instead of the Fateful Abscence, seems like enough basics and against Planeswalkers you will have one for sure considering they come later in the game The problem maybe is it doesn't work with Apparatus and there's the enchantment removal and the conflict with Farewell so maybe not.
Under other circumstances, I think it would be a good idea to syncopate for 2 @39:29 to incentivize the opponent to spend all their mana (if they want the dragon), while having access to 1 more yourself (if you had other plays). That way, you can bounce the other one and still have 2 life to spare! And doesn't matter what the other card is at that point, since they can't play it. Trick is to make them question whether casting the strike at all is worth it! And possibly keeping the mite for 10 posion.
Thanks LegendVD for showcasing this deck. I love how quickly it can close the game and the two Mirrexes have been nothing short of impressive. I suppose you do not run Lay Down Arms because of the landbase requirements? And which changes would you make for Bo3?
I like the main deck so would just need your typical sideboard cards like Negate, more removal and maybe some alternate wincon like Hullbreaker or a Planeswalker.
@@LegenVD you are kind right, but sometimes is a wincon that the opponent do not expect. It saved me a few times. Stealing a Warden for 3 mana and a copy is delicious
@@LegenVD Makes sense... I only play one, to steal some key creatures like Rotpriest or Sheol and make OP commit more to the field so the incoming sweeper its harder...but probably the deck works the same without it :)
@@CriticalStories Forgive me but isn't Soldiers overrepresented in the meta? I saw CGB's meta analysis last week and I thought it was something like 65%+ w/r and top played deck. Wait I don't get it; the only actual win condition is the poison damage of the mites from White Sun's Twilight. Do you just annoy your opponent with all the counters, removal, and wipes before they just give up out of frustration?
Mirrex can get there too. Once you cast a big enough Scrutiny the game usually ends quite quickly. That's control decks for you, the fewer wincons the better.

Agree he and Sonio are the best pilots in my opinion. I net decked his red oil deck and almost never win with it. But he won most his games.

You gotta love it when two blue control decks stare eachother down.
Thank you so much for this list and your awesome commentary! I really like that you awlays stay calm and collected! Azorius control fan checking in!

Impressive deck and plays
This seems like a deck with potential, went 3-1 in the standard challenge with it this weekend and I believe the Blue twilight could be useful
Stealing creatures is a little awkward when you end up wiping the board shortly after is my take on it.
I'm a simple man. I see lvd playing control, I hit like.

I think 3 is the magic number for white sun’s in this deck. 2 seems too low but 4 could clog the hand
That teferi which gains from drawn card would be cool
I remember people saying white sun's was kinda bad, before seeing how stupid is the swing when you cast it for 7+.
Perfect vid every Day
Making Azorius control great again provides a lot of value
I wonder about adding black for the black March. That’d be a lot of life gain. Black also has some good proliferate
Probably would mean losing the colorless lands, which have been great for me.
CGB made a UR version with a few X-spell finishers. Interesting as well...
I used something very similar since the beginning. Blue sun's twilight is a good adition to the deck

Thalia is the biggest issue, especially if you're on the draw.
