Spread Triads are (I think) one of the most beautiful sounds you can make on a guitar...So here's a lesson about how to start using them in your playing almost immediately!
The presets I'm using here will be added to the folder "Eric Clean" and "Eric Lead 35"
Please leave a comment if you find this type of "lesson" useful, so that I know to keep making them!
/ johnnathancordy you can get my backing tracks and lesson tabs here.

This is definitely the best introduction in spread triads that you can find on RUclips
John....you are literally my favourite guitarist.
More lessons like this, please👍
great lesson john - I agree these just sound more lovely than close triads
John you’re awesome mate. Tone and feel is just another level.
These lessons are really useful and very well presented.
Excellent playing in the intro sets up the lesson perfectly.
Excellent job! Not only is the content relevant but the lighting and camera angles etc are “bang-on”! 👏
Beautiful composition mate
So clearly explained. Thanks!
Thanks John. I'll be showing this lesson to one of my students.
I did these as finger exercises a lot to learn the neck and never really thought about what it would be called. Great lesson and playing.
Really nice piece of music John. Just Beautiful! You never cease to amaze me. I am learning more how to incorporate the spread triads. It takes a bit of learning to play a chord in different shapes.
Awesome lesson, super clear and sounds great
Thank you John! I'm an open chord player trying to learn soloing. This lesson helps so much in picturing chord voicings all over the fretboard. Cheers.
Thank you. Just what I needed today.
Another brilliant lesson!
Excellent presentation John, this is not so easy to do. ! Thanks for going over this
Awesome little lesson John!!!! The sounds scapes that are seemingly possible with what are in essence basic chords is amazing...deffo getting into these@@ could this be done with extended chords??? Maybe another lesson there !!
Pretty unique guitarist !
Great lesson! Very useful this idea of spread triads.
I feel like I just watched the opening to Eric J's 1989 Hot LIcks video. Great Job. Some Advanced Caged System or the Spread Cage.
This is hugely helpful. Thanks!
Spread triads/open voicings are really beautiful, and sound particularly on the clean tones of a Strat. Besides contributing interesting voicings to chords, they automatically inspire different rhythms and chord progressions. They also make it easier to expand one's chord vocabulary, and creative possibilities.
Love the spread triads! Your playing is great as usual.
Are you using a shimmer reverb of some kind?
Uh for this I'm using this preset ruclips.net/video/y8iPdeCc_oc/видео.html - Glitz reverb
Thanx great lesson.
Where on Patreon is the pdf and back track located ?
Always the same question, John : can I get this beautiful backing track on your Patreon please? 😉
Apparently married men have marks on the back off their guitar necks due to their ring. Ever noticed this mate???? Sorry, having a bit of a Sherlock moment here when i noticed your ring. Love the content!
I almost exclusively use spread triads. I'm pretty sure I've forgotten how to play anything else.
