77whp, rated at 79 crank hp when new, what an overachiever! He deserves at the least to be allowed to live on as a farm truck! I wish the us models had the column shift manual, we only got the floor shift
And that, boys and girls, is what you call an Italian Tune Up! All you missed was a water drip into the carb at the same time to remove those stubborn carbon deposits!!! Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
Hahaha full clip in second that thing sounded like a lawnmower for sure. Amazing to see something this rusty drive. It's impressive even by my standards, and I drive a lot of cars that are mostly rust. These dyno runs are legendary, hahaha. What do you even do with a truck like this? Good stuff!
In America our Datsun pick-ups of that vintage had L18 or L20b's, wasn't aware the A15 was available in them. I have a 79 Datsun 210 wagon with the A14 i rescued from the crusher. I literally put a battery in it and ran a hose from the pump to a can of fresh gas and it started second try. New tires, rear shoes, clutch hydraulic, and its been driving ever since.
Id say keep him as a farm truck. Maybe weld a rollbar so it doesnt kill you... if theres anything left to weld to. Could be useful to move spares around, after the transmission and brakes get rebuilt. Clean the interior first for the love of God. I love Fred. ❤
I bought the exact pickup in 1990 for $100, my son learned to drive with it. It had a 4 speed and for some reason the steering wheel was on the other side.
Grandad had 1 of those from new. Except his was hotted up from new with an L20 engine n 5 speed box. Reckoned the 1500 engine was hopeless for the average Kiwi farmer.
What are you talking about? The tired old thing made its rated crank hp AT THE WHEELS. And then om straight nitrous (no addl fuel) it made probablu 125 crank hp (about 70% more than its base rating) I think Fred is a winner.
New to the channel so don’t know if you name all your vehicles but now “Fred” took all you threw at him you should give him a chance to live the rest of his days peacefully.
I say, make them better, but not perfect. It’s an old farm truck. The old geezer deserves to live though, but not before you put the original drive train to the test with a racetrack.
bruh. why tryna kill it, if the engine seems healthy after what this thing has gone through?! it definitely deserves a rebuild. maybe keep the patina and do some welding so u wont die driving this thing
Fred ain’t dead 💀 Long live Fred ❤

Give Fred a chance he’s proven himself
Awesome to see the old Datsun has a will to live. Long live Fred

Fred deserves a second life
Coat it in rustzilla, put something slightly flammable in the tank and it will go forever.
You can’t tread on Fred
Since he has a strong head
He refuses to be dead
Still avoiding a scrap metal bed
😂👍
Well done.😂
Tbh I think he fuckinnngggggg lovvveeeddd thattt no weight on the body all on the engine Bruhh he eat that nos uppp
How this channel didnt blown up already?
This is awesome,i wish the better for you man,top quality content here
Fred actually sounded pretty healthy at high rpm lol, all things considered
That is not what I would call a healthy sounding truck.
Those A series engines were rock solid and known for their longevity generally outlasting the vehicles they were fitted to.
3:18 man this thing is gonna love the dyno
Mate a rebuild series on Fred woud be sick.. expensive but sick
He deserves a birthday after that
yess Fred! 24 hour of lemons style race, would be amazing. if he really wants to live prove it Fred..
I absolutely love these types of videos maybe my type of people are in Australia lol
Long live Fred, love the content!!
Fred deserves a second life, a restore, he just wants to live.
2nd chance at life i would say
Ahhh give Fred a new lease of life he deserves it!!

I think i want an old datto now. Enjoyed the vid.
He is trying to tell you something. Let this beast live
This is just a crazy asss video I loved it
Please make more long form content!!! This is honestly the most entertaining mechanic channel I’ve found in years
I reckon fred deserves a full resto at this point
just picked one of these up to build too. unfortunately mine isnt as resilient as this one lmao
You bad bad boy old fred
Fred is not ready to give up ! needs a motorfix inspired build is my vote
I think Fred deserves to do what he was made to. Putt around and work. Within the limitations of his tired, rusty back mind you.
Add fuel and timing till she blows... i like the patina of it but if your gonna keep it deffs plate the rust and try keep it patina

Mate, this is the first of your youtube vids I've watched and I'm very very entertained. Top effort! Yes we need to collaborate!
6:34 at this moment at the front tire it shot a flame
This needs a real wet system, and ITB's, and a header
I'm glad to see you walking end back at RUclips out of curiosity do you still ride motorcycle
I would fix it and drive it for sure
Man, these trucks are fucking unkillable
Id say keep him as a farm truck. Maybe weld a rollbar so it doesnt kill you... if theres anything left to weld to.

Rusty big holes but , that headliner is mint 👌

Long live Fred
Let Fred live
Need to do a total restore on Fred!
this is certified "oops! ALL NEUTRAL"
Grandad had 1 of those from new. Except his was hotted up from new with an L20 engine n 5 speed box. Reckoned the 1500 engine was hopeless for the average Kiwi farmer.
Shout out to George the OG ❤
Just had to warm up and cook all the cobwebs out
needs a good life now after that it earnt a rebuild
Top Gear didn't even manage this amount of hp lost/ year with their 70s Mid-engined Supercars episode 😂
What are you talking about? The tired old thing made its rated crank hp AT THE WHEELS.

a second life
Free Fred Campaign from the scappy has to be started.!...😁.Fred has more to prove
I think Fred needs a turbo
I think you are onto something there 😉
They just don't make cars like they used to😂 Nice send😎
Fix Fred
Would help if you gave it some extra FUEL with the liquid nitrous🤦
Fix fred dude
Race Fred!!
Tune Fred then to the race track with a shit load of nitrous
subbed for upgrades for Fredward.
Restore it!
rebuild fred
Fred >>>
That's just cruel dude - it's like getting your grandfather to do a line of coke, he'd blow a foofer valve. Let him live a nice retirement.
Your "trucks" are so cute down unda lol
Go Fred Go!
New to the channel so don’t know if you name all your vehicles but now “Fred” took all you threw at him you should give him a chance to live the rest of his days peacefully.
A series=💪
datsun a series is the most robust and reliable commercial engines ever produced
Is that an A12!? Makes me want to push my stock 120y to the maxxxx, maybe all if need is an exhaust and a bitta nos 😂😂
They had the J15 in them.
it makes more power than a suzuki celery and that can do a buck 60 in 1 litre 5 speed trim
Stop beating on that poor old truck
Build him up
Blower.
I say, make them better, but not perfect. It’s an old farm truck. The old geezer deserves to live though, but not before you put the original drive train to the test with a racetrack.

If you have it a good tune with leads plugs ect you would of got another 50years out of the motor.A series Nissan donk's=Bloody Tough 💪💪👍👍
Long live Fat Freddy
🎉❤😂
U should make fred a burnout mushen 💀
Let him live
Pull apart freds motor and see whats up
I don't no why but you want to Destroy Fred make me want to cry
what a hell you add oxigen but don't add fuel for that oxigen...
mosrt cars of that era were tuned to be a bit on the rich side, so adding more O2 would even up the mix
Meh, 2nd is the best gear anyway.
Really underrated tbh.
Yeah, these trucks will stomp any f150 every built.
Give fred 30 psi turbo
Make him a new engine rebuld him and make him a farm race car
I'm American, don't judge my last comment lol😅
LS3 swap it lol
Revive it turn it into a rat rod
❤lol
I say you take Fred, give him a fighting chance, and take him to 24h of lemons. There's no way you've spent more than 500 usd
Let Fred live
