In Asia, they make a pot of delicious soup, then lay washed lettuce piece in bottom of bowl and pour the hot soup over it and that part wilts it and it taste ls great and you can pile a lot of lettuce in to get your greens. It still does have crunch but it’s warm and tasty! I love it! Loving the S-L-O-W pace if the music. It’s relaxing.
I can't get over how terrifying these dolls are but how stinking adorable their accessories are! Those tiny glasses, the tiny handbag, I about died. I'm not at all surprised Molly was your favorite, seeing the types of cookbooks you collect 😊 I made a soup a lot like this earlier this week kept us fed for dinners or lunches almost all week, just using some leftover veggies from the farmers market! Love a good soup in the summer!
Their accessories were everything! Then they started making child size accessories so you could match your doll! It was too expensive to get even back then. And I too love a good soup that stretches for leftovers; if it helps me clean the fridge even better!
So happy to add recipes to use all the abundance of the summer gardens. I’m going to make this new soup today. Perfect timing since I was looking over the array of vegetables I have and wondering how to use them all up! Also , it’s great to have enough to share with folks. Who doesn’t love a good soup especially when it’s dark and rainy outside. Thank you!
I'm glad it came at just the right time! It's so good to have a garden but then you have to contend with veggies coming in all at the same time! I hope you enjoyed it and had a lovely meal!
I love this video. It's a rainy, gloomy day here today and that soup looks so good right now. I've never thought to add the potato water to the soup or the lettuce. So that was some nice tips. I remember my mother talking how scared she was when Pearl Harbor was hit. She was only 11 years old. Her older brother ended up going into the military. Thank goodness he came home and actually lived to be in his 90's. I think these American Girl series are so fascinating for our kids to read. I love that you looked like Molly. I'm so glad you're sharing this with us.
Thank you and that's fascinating about your mother! I love talking to the generation that remembers those things! This cookbook became my favorite out of all of them because of the history involved. The food waste tips alone are so important for people to learn!
I've enjoyed this series! This soup looks delish. I'm familiar with lettuce in soups, Italians do this and I'm sure other cultures do also. I'm glad you liked it! P.S. Even the threat of tornadoes scare the living heck out me! I hope the storm passed quickly and didnt damage your garden too badly.
That's so interesting! And I liked that it can use up some lettuce before it wastes. As for the storm, we didn't get any damage but this summer has been the worst I've ever seen for weather here! We just got through an all night storm that shook the house it was so bad! We're all looking forward to Fall!
I love that you fixed Molly her own bowl as well 😊

Loved it, thank you.
Definitely will have to try this one. Haven't often seen lettuces in soup. Seems fun!

Waste not want not was also mentioned in Kit kittreddge books who time is the great depression
Homemade Fast Food recipes! lol
It's a shame we didn't keep those waste values once the war was over. I've only seen adding "lettuce" type greens in Italian soups 🍲
Yes! Those waste not values saves a lot of money on groceries too!
Was molly your first doll?
I look a lot like molly with brown hair my eyes are blue and i wear glasses and mom always braided my hair in to pigtail braids.
