For more than 60 years, Airmen have flown over islands in Micronesia, airdropping donated goods in makeshift bundles to help more than 30,000 islanders. The yearly endeavor, called Operation Christmas Drop, is the longest-running humanitarian mission in the world. (U.S. Air Force video/Tech. Sgt. Samuel Morse/374th Airlift Squadron)
As someone who's from Pohnpei (island in the federated states of Micronesia) who now resides in the U.S., I'm truly grateful for what many of my people are able to receive during this time of giving thanks to people like the ones shown in this video.
I salute all the American airmen that participated in the Christmas drops every year......I witness this happen due to me present in the islands of woleai back in 1999.....I can see the joy in the kids face when the Christmas drops touch the water......

4) the aircraft come to Guam annually to for the unique opportunity to train on low-level and airdrop flights--skills which are perishable but essential. 5) The donation effort is specifically tailored to the needs/desires of the islanders through UoG communication to the island residents via HAM radio. 6) donations this year included over 6 tons of rice and over 1,000 cans of tuna fish. Hope this is helpful!
THIS IS THE ONLY BATTLE OUR ARMY'S SHOULD BE FIGHTING.
PEACE.LOVE.UNITY.
For anyone who is interested, here are some details that aren't spelled out in the video... 1) Operation Christmas Drop is a private organization, not part of the Air Force. 2) all goods and materials, including the parachutes, wood, boxes and supplies are donated to OCD private organization by the extraordinarily generous citizens and companies of Guam, Micronesia and Japan. 3) All cargo is certified as humanitarian assistance under the USAID Denton Program, which allows USAF to handle it.
Another type of Our Heroes. Thank you. You make us proud
I love that this video is responsible for more than half of the whole channels views. Great Work!
See Folks, Their is a SANTA!!!
Much love from Micronesia
Why isn't this the most viewed right now? This is people giving to people who have very little.
There are lots of resources, but most of them you have to pay for. Sites like killertracks or Vimeo have all kinds of music you can license out.
Great video!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
I teared up a bit
So proud of our Military for doing this every year!!!!!
how can someone seriously NOT like this?!
Just because you can survive on your own, doesn't mean help isn't appreciated. They are giving gifts to these people to make their lives easier, not to make it so they can survive.
Thank you US airmen!!
Isn't it pathetic how even when something good is being done to help a group of people, others can do nothing but find something in it to gripe about?
Thank you
Wonderful Story, Inspiring, beautiful photography, Well Done Guys!!
Thank you US airmen from 691
That would be like saying your mother has way too much money because she bought you presents for Christmas. You don't realize how much 600 pounds of goods could help out a community on an island.
I wish there's a ♥️ react option
I wonder what kind of stuff goes into those bundles.
Aliff Jamal there is a lot of stuff like clothes, some food and presents.
Cool bro
HEROES ! Song name ? :D
The song is "Skyborn" by Samuel Morse (me), composed specifically for this video.
respect
Right in the feels
The music was composed by the creator of the video.
read "Christmas Drop" on facebook- tought it was a dubstep track XD
wow !
i likd it, bc evertym i c it i cry
keep living in your dream buddy.
This is really cool.
where do you find that kind of music which is not specificly created for video?
some faith in humanity has been restored!
love the dude pretending to tighten a screw at 0:24
i hope we can have a time to contact so that way i can name all the island of micronisia. that way we can make a good story about going out there and make a christamss drop.
The natives of these islands have developed religions based around the cargo packages dropped by western planes.
Sorry we understand religions enough. Thank you for you thought.
That's Awesome!!! Good Work Airman!!
Think about it, if the US had never felt the obligation to "provide" these islanders with unnecessary items, then their current situation could very-well be better than it currently is............................
That's awesome! Great job guys.
Incredible endeavour. Something powerfully constructive.
So much better than blowing up countries.
Good Drop!!
this is truly santa :D
Thanks I understand and Im sure it helps the soldiers feel good about their mission for a change and for many it may be the reason they joined right. My point is its still a business plan one that is more popular than others with military involvement but still a business plan none the less.
That is why people want to come to America and live
Sad thing is that if this was moved to Thanksgiving, it would get a lot less donations because the people who give to spread Jesus's love wouldn't anymore.
I swear, no one put an "a" in front of the c-130
Music?
I agree with you and i understand this, but most people in usa believe what media tells them it is hard for them to understand all this is just a business
you're good at*
Anyone else decided to get a little stuffy at 2:50 ?
Actual CARE package . What do you know .?
Name of song? :)
Ripped from The Day After Tomorrow
thanks :)
The music wasn't ripped, but rather an original composition called "Skyborn." It can be found on Soundcloud at soundcloud.com/samuel_morse/skyborn
thanks man! :D
About as original as a pair of Chinese levis.
Paint the c-130 red
Until a 600 pound package lands on a hut
Would you care to elaborate what you mean? If the islanders are happy receiving the packages why would this make others hate Americans? I would rather see our armed forces sending supplies and gifts to people who might need it than to see them in countries fighting wars.
Why is everyone so mad this is a better use of our money than spending 500thousand dollars for a soccer net in Guanamino bay prison
You don't get the point of this, do you?
WHY DOES IT HAVE TOO BE CHRISTMAS FOR THIS TOO HAPPEN? IT SHOULD HAPPEN EVERYDAY ALL OVER THE WORLD!!!!
It's not a bomber.
THANK U AMERICAN FOR U'R HELP I HEARD SOMEBODY SAYD SOME AMERICANS R STARVING,ANYWAY WE GET CHRISTMAS DROP & U GET FOOD STAMP, THESE ISLAND CALL MICRONESIA WHICH IS UNDER US TERRITORY & THATS YYYYYYYYYY NOT BECAUSE OF THE GIFT BUT WE RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR 1,1,1,1,1,10NE
Millions are not hungry in america. Millions are not homeless. Very little if anyone is hungry in america, and number of homeless are is in the thousands not millions.
just dont give them a uav
Merica baby
The US military did do this during Hurricane Sandy, get your facts straight.
I don't disagree with the viewpoint that christianity seems to be the endorsed religion throughout the military. I'm not christian. I don't like seeing christian prayer at every event the military has. But, I do still practice christmas, because it endorses the spirit of giving, all the other religious stuff is unimportant.
Why not make things interesting and suggest America is doing this because they are interested in there land?
I lived in Chiapas Mexico over 2 years I saw white people from all over come to experience themselves making a difference by giving gifts/teaching etc from what I know 1 lady managed to make a difference and that's because she was ready to learn before she started to teach and she lived exactly as they did. She was one tough bitch! Others would donate plastic crocs or sunglasses amongst other useless shit. Always received with a smile but as soon as your back is turned ....
The Air Force has way too much money...
They have probably been surviving there for thousands of years, they don't need yo shit sucks.
My mission is to fly fight and win! I'm an american airman. Guardian of freedom and justice, my nations sword and shield.
I'd rather the USAF drop something else entirely over Detroit.
Detroit might as well be in the jungle theirs really not that much here.
Thats great.....now Drop some boxes Here In America too!!!!!!
lol, in some parts of america there are 3rd world country living standards, you have more then thousands of homeless.
USA,win
What on earth does that even mean? You're just making yourself out to be ignorant.
Our country is trillions in debt... millions are hungry... millions are homeless... millions with nothing. Fuck it. Lets drop our resources elsewhere.
USA USA USA
Music sounds very similar to The Day After Tomorrow soundtrack. Ironic use considering America has citizens that are starving and freezing to death this winter.
Now jobless is another story, but we have tons of programs giving out free food to the poor.
Santa is a Christian figure? I thought he was the excuse for everyone else to celebrate giving. I have never seen a Santa hat in church, where religious people usually celebrate the Jesus in Christmas. Huh...
America is in need of jobs and money! Why cant you help us?
Awesome Americans need help to though
This is more humane than to drop bombs!!
Its great to see govt funds being used to spread the love of Christ to all these people! Oh wait, no, it isn't. Give them supplies on Thanksgiving so it doesn't look like the Air Force has an official religion.
This totally makes up for the fact that USA's military spending is more than the rest of the world put together. LOL sarcasm, trying to fight the feels :P
publicity stunt. UPS would be cheaper, hence, they are wasting extra money that could have been used to just mail some food and presents. enjoy your commercial, guys.
You must be a lib, the air force pilots must maintain certain amounts of flying time per month. They would be flying anyway. It brings joy to people so why not fly these missions?
Thomas Briggs Sr You must be a con. It could be a publicity stunt. They said it's a yearly delivery but you said they have to fly a number of hours per month. Where is the monthy delivery to make the hours? Do they become poor once a year at Christmas time? I would think it's more of moral booster than anything.
Thomas Briggs Sr
Maurie McGleish
I agree, that guy's a lib for sure. Moral booster or whatever, it works.
Maurie McGleish Works for what? Recruiting? Flight time? It doesn't get anyone out poverty becuse they do it every year. You don't need a photo op to make people smile. It's a nice gesture but not really a big deal.
