I’m from North Texas, not far from Mineral Wells. Always had a soft spot in my heart for the Baker, and our good neighbors. Good, nice people. I’m so glad for y’all.
I was born in Mineral Wells around the time Fort Walters and the Baker closed their doors. I grew up always hearing about the glory of the town, but watching it slowly fade away over the years. When they say the Baker is the heart of the town, that is true in so many ways. It means so much to so many people who grew up in this area. Bring the hotel back, bring the jobs back, bring Mineral Wells back.
I live here now and after watching the video it has renewed my hope of it opening. I am almost 66 years old and do wish it would happen before I pass away. I worked at the Beauty Salon in 1962 and was always mystified at it's elegance. Charlsie Blocker

That 8 minute preview of the Ballad of the Baker is not only sad but kinda uplifting at the same time. Its sad that everybody left Mineral Wells due to money problems but its nice to know that The Baker is still in the hearts and minds of people today. I for one would love to see The Baker restored. Think about it. People would pay out the wazoo just to stay there and experience the hauntings that goes on there. Has the baker got the green light on renovations yet? Please let me know. Thanks
I was just recently visiving the hotel and fell in love! I am astonished at the condition of the structure itself. they definitely knew what they wre doing when they built this place way back tnen(better tnan lots of structures today) will love to visit during or definitely after refurbishing. I wish you the very best for attempting to renew such an historical and legendary place.
I was at a ghost tour at the baker hotel in Texas but we didn't go inside, I still learned a lot about the baker hotel and some scary legends the tour person was really funny and i hope I can go back and go inside!

I went to the baker yesterday and just to see how beautiful it is. IM 13 yrs old kind of a history freak. The story behind all this is amazing. I hope you can finish the documentary and the building, because i would love to go inside. My Great Aunt's brother worked as a life guard at this hotel.
i would be willing to move from alabama to work there using my 20 years of hotel managment and knowing just about all the hotels history. knowing jane cattric a friend who used to work there
Love to see Mineral Wells and the Baker in better times, no matter how far I travel though I will never escape summers with my grandfather and seeing the imposing shell of the Baker

I love that I came across this video, having many personal connections to it. I grew up in MW, as my father did, but our experiences were so different because the town itself was so different. He was born in 1935 and describes his childhood in MW as something exciting and magical. The life that the Baker brought to our town is something I've only heard about in his stories, but I still feel so much pride and hope that MW can become something truly great again. Kevin, you were a couple of years ahead of me in high school, but I remember the videos you did for our morning announcements (before the technology we have today) and I see that you've really refined your craft- well done! You make Mineral Wells proud :)
As much as I agree with what the folks in this doc has said, I really hope they aren't planning on using State Funds or even worse; Federal Funds to pay for a renovaion.
I have been obsessed with The Baker since the first time I ever heard a story about it, which was about 5 years ago now or more. I am thrilled that a renovation is in the works. I would be one of the travelers from states away to come stay. I've seen it in person and live in Georgia. I even have plans to meet others their and stay at the hotel once it is renovated.
I recently went to Mineral Wells to pick up our Monthly supply of Crazy Water and to spend the afternoon at the Brazos River Gun & Archery Club. As I drove through town and slowed to view the Baker I couldn't help but think that after all the effort put forth in the last 5 years to bring the grand old lady back to life, it remains as dead as it has been since 1975. The Hunter/Chase web site still has it listed as a project but no updates in a long time. Hopefully, efforts are still being made to finalize the financing to get this historical project underway that will breath new life into downtown MW and the city.
I hope your plan goes out perfectly! Also you have the horror stories to get you more tourist (as tragic as all the stories are) with the crazy and please consider paying tribute to some of the souls who died in that hotel

Dad meet George Kennedy at Mineral Wells airport, he's also a private pilot. My grandfather Charles Davis flew Civil Airpatrol out of that airport.
