🏆 Why do I only keep the good looking fish (selective breeding)?
1. Deformed fish = poor genetic health
2. So the deformities don’t spread to the next generation
3. Fish with deformities tend to pass early/randomly, which can cause an ammonia spike in the tank
4. As a responsible fish breeder/ seller, it would be unethical to offer fish for sale when they are in suboptimal health conditions
Please note: I am absolutely an avocate for rescuing and nurturing fish found in poor conditions. This is not the same as fish born with life threatening health conditions. Deformities such as missing organs, blindness, and bent spines can all contribute to a low quality life in fish. With these, I typically take them to my LFS. They will then sell them for a discount or use them as feeder fish.

If you really cared about the ammonia in your tank, your fish wouldn’t ocassionaly pass away from dropsy 🗿💀

I've seen people argue "would you get rid of your child because it's blind or has a bent spine?"
The reason that's not okay is because for humans, we have accommodations to make blindness easier (or even curing it depending on what kind of blindness) or fixing bent spines.
But for fish, they're just miserable.
Its a crucial thing in the fishing industry, so its not brutal , they are killed painlessly

I believe it's very important to do these kinds of sorting and discarding. Letting them continue to breed is mean to the fish already alive and future fish. I'm glad you practice it and also tell others about it, just bc we can accommodate people with disabilities, that doesn't mean we can, or even should, with fish.

Unfortunately not every fish is perfect but I try to still give them a good home, I just don't breed them

I had a goldfish for 2 years who had survived in a one gallon tank for almost its hole life. When I moved states my fish Kevin was kept in a gallon of water. We went to pet co to by more food and a new tank. We asked the employee how big the tank needed to be. She said 5 gallons so we bought the tank ,and some rock and plants. The same day we got the tank he got stuck in between a rock and the side of the tank , and suffocated. That’s when I learned that pets won’t always be with you.

I do wonder why you don’t just keep the deformed fish separate and let them live in your care but away from the health fish so they don’t pass on their genes but don’t have to be euthanized?
if the deformity doesn’t affect the fish’s quality of life, I try and keep them. I have found though, that with keeping thousands of fish these do not end up living long since there is a large competition for food
Yeah I wish she could sell them at a discount to people who want to give them a good life. My mom rescues blind fish and hand feeds them. We have mostly blind beta fish but I’m really interested in guppies especially cause they can live together.

Fish4Ever, I feel a lot of guilt ever since I started watching your videos
As a 7yr old I got a stunning red,yellow and blue beta fish but the tank was tiny,I found it in one of those random little stores that are there for abit then go.The tank was the size of a small square plate, with sharp Little Rock’s at the bottom yet I didn’t know how to care for them at all.I changed the water and fed them yet one day they just died,After seeing the conditions they should be in on your channel I cried thinking about how I didn’t even care for the fish correctly,And when I had that fish I had 2 small goldfish,in the classical fish bowl (WITH THE SAME SHARP ROCKS AND FAKE SHARP PLANTS) and never thought anything of it,A white was which was turned out to be blind. I didn’t care for any of them correct and regret completely, by watching your channel it makes me feel more guilt yet I feel as if I can treat fish better now and have gone on to have a dog.

hi, can you please suggest us the main reasons why guppies die!, i think its due to high water hardness but i'm not sure. my guppies gave birth to so many babies and died but the babies are still alive :(

I have a story so when my friend got some fish he took care of them every day he would feed them clean the tank make sure the temperature right but one day one died then it was the next day another died then all died

Absolutely nothing, she only freezes them so they keep their nutrients.
Oh the fishes will just eat it but if u mean dead brine shrimps the fishes will eat it too it’s ok if it’s the brine shrimps are dead they just don’t have a lot of nutrients

I bought 6 males and
12 female guppies because last time my family has guppies they didn't breed this much, but now I'm afraid my tank is becoming overstocked and many of them have bent spines, I am not a fish breeder so any non-breeder techniques will be really helpful.
You usually want 1 male I think? And to get rid of any male babies, this prevents inbreeding from badly occurring causing those deformities, and you will also want to cull any with problems sadly
Ah, unfortunately my dad doesn't want to cull because he believes their deformities don't decrease their quality of life :/ as for the removal of male babies, I'm not actually sure where they would go. Very poor planning on my part :(
My fish 🐠 died in a blizzard 🥶
Fish are sadly the least long life creatures which is really sad there the coolest living under water with there cute little fat bellies I feel really bad which is why I dont eat fish instead I look after them before I made sure they were fed nicely and there tank was the right warmth clean and the right amount of space.
