    I do the drive from Phoenix to PV a lot. Take 3 1/2 days of leisurely driving. Stay in San Carlos, Navojoa,and mazatlan - all beautiful cities with nice restaurants and bars. A great drive.

I used to live in San Bernardino County, California. I moved to King County, Washington in 2014. San Bernardino County is near Los Angeles and Riverside. King County is Seattle.

    Used to drive a similar route from Corpus to San Miguel De Allende, or further to Oaxaca in the 90's.
    Things have changed! As I recall, there were a few limited access highways further south, but I don't think there were tollways then. It was all two lane highways, topes, and learning how to pass.
    Coming from Corpus we generally drove down the coast until Victoria, then up the mountains to the central plateau. It was on those mountain roads where I began to love Mexico. Then sometimes we'd go through Laredo and around Monterey to San Luis Potos, like you did.
    Once we were stuck in dead stopped traffic well north of San Luis, blocked all the way to the city, and we had to get to San Miquel that day. The map had no suggestions, but I did see a little town southeast of us, Armadillo, but it showed no roads in or out. Winged it. We asked every pedestrian, "a Armadillo?", and we found a path to, and a road out, so made it to San Miquel that day. Armadillo was incredible, the whole thing, streets, sidewalks, buildings and church were made of cobblestones. We had entered Fairy.

    You don't mention where you got gas. When I travelled on toll roads near Guadalajara, there were no service centres. You had to exit the toll highway to find gas and pay the toll again to get back on. Gets scary when you are low on fuel. What did you do?

    What is the process for bringing a Mexico plated car to the US as a US citizen? How does it compare to bringing a US plated car to Mexico??

    • @VallartaLife
      @VallartaLife  2 года назад +5

      We haven’t had any problem driving into US with a Mexican car. We say we live part time in Mx and in the US and they don’t ask much questions.
      A US car needs to get temporary permit at the border that is only good for 6 months then need to be renewed.

    • @vidalvalle4119

      no problem to have a Mexican Vehicle in US as a US Citizen, just keep it with insurance. And well tuned !!! They run great I have been in DFW area for 7 months and no problem. Bring a US plated to Mexico is a sign for money for the cops! they will stop you to check papers, keep you there for a while, then let you go. AND YES got via San Luis Potosi much safer !!!!!

      I drove from Ottawa to Cancun. Don't drive at night, follow Military Convoy's if possible. Pay for gas with small 50 or 100 peso Bills. Bring a Steering Lock from Canadian Tire, make sure your spare tire us full size not a temporary. Have you lug nuts lubed slightly, practice jacking your car to replace a tire yourself and fast. If you breakdown out in the middle of the boonies your an easy target for a kid high on Methadone to rob you.

      Quadruple photo copies of your Drivers License, Vehicle Ownership, Insurance, VIP from MTO so they know you OWN your Car you cannot cross easily with a Car with a loan or lease on it. Same goes for your vehicle Registration Serial Numbers on the Cowling and Inside Door, and your License Plate you need to provide these when you cross in order to obtain a 6 month 180 days Vehicle Permit. The Tax you will pay and Permit will NOT allow you to sell your Vehicle it must return back across the border, however you can renew your Permit for an additional 180 days once at the USA Mexican Border without crossing into the USA.

    • @oneproudchump8457
      @oneproudchump8457 Год назад +1

      She probably got nervous not having the right amount of change to make the toll. This used to happen to me a lot. Sometime you don’t want to present a big bill either. A psychological thing. People get nervous thinking if I show them I have a lot of money I might get assaulted. It’s best to have about 200 pesos in 20 (paper) pesos.
