Hi guys, I just wanted to let you know that I was subscribed to your channel and I just realised today that I wasn't any more, so I subscribed again. I wonder if that's happened to anyone else? Love your videos so much, keep being you!!! Xoxox
Do you genuinely think the climate makes the difference to your mood or is it because any time you've been to Portugal you've essentially been on holiday, rather than living actual life and dealing with the inevitable mundane routines of work, school, kids, chores, etc? When I holiday in the UK, even if it rains every single day I feel happier, lighter, more relaxed than I would if I was at home, working, managing deadlines, pressure and relentless routines of life. I don't know what the answer is but moving abroad won't offer the same quality of life as going on holiday.
Even living my most mundane life in the UK, when the sun comes out I feel happier, more productive, able to relax and appreciate my surroundings more. When I holiday (abroad or at home), if it's raining, I feel like I'm wasting my time and money, I feel a bit duller etc. Bad weather massively alters my mood, which is why I'm in the process of moving abroad too. I have heard that people get seasonal depression, but reversed; so they gain energy when it's raining, snowy or cold... This notion totally baffles me 😅 Each to their own, everyone is so different and there's never going to be one shoe that fits all and figuring out what works for yourself/your family and going after that is all that matters, regardless of what other people think about it.
I would totally suggest renting rather than putting all your eggs in one basket and jumping into buying. Rent in an area or two that you love and see what you prefer. It’s a huge commitment and quite risky.
All of the comments on here being negative about moving likely come from people who have talked themselves out of it. As someone who moved to australia in the pandemic with a seven month old from the uk - do it! If it doesn’t work out, so what? You’ll just be back in the situation you’re in now 🤷🏻♀️ You’ll always regret not trying if you just give up. It’s hard being an immigrant and not having any family nearby but god, I’m so grateful I can give my son the best shot at a wonderful life. My first job here was double my U.K. civil servant salary. I’m now looking at jobs for 3-4 times my civil service salary with the cost of goods and rent pretty similar to the U.K. The UK is a mess. Sorry, not sorry.
Glad to hear that this far your move to Australia has worked out well. I’m really tempted to move to Australia. It’s just such a big scary thing to do. Kudos to you for doing that with a young baby and during a major pandemic. 😊
I really hope this works out for you guys, you have such a lovely family and I've followed you since the very start. I think the boys are at the perfect age to try something new as it's much harder to change things once they're older and have their own friends and independent lives. I just want you all to be leaving for the right reasons as it does come across more that you're running away rather than solely looking for a change in lifestyle. I get that every country has it's problems but from experience countries like Portugal (which I love btw) does have a lot of issues especially when it comes to buying property, heatlhcare, education and just generally dealing with every day issues. I absolutely think you're doing the right thing though if you're unhappy but I always saw you guys maybe living in rural Scotland or Ireland even rather than abroad. Anyway, loving watching the adventure and hoping it works out for you all. x
Besides the weather (worse in Ireland) i could have seen you all settle well in Ireland. The sale of your house in England would buy you a more than adequate house here and have zero mortgage, be close to home, slower countryside pace of life, no longer part of the UK (providing your in the republic) and its an english speaking country.
Ireland is definitely a great option. I think that possibly the issues with the cost of living in the U.K. may also still be a problem in Ireland though.
5:51 Is the reason I unsubscribed a long time ago. It makes you come across as a pair of massive right wingers. The sort of people who would have raging hard-ons for Brexit. Which is why you constantly get those accusations. I'm glad you're self-conscious of it
I don't want to change your dreams, but if it can help you I live in Spain, warm weather, could spend loads of time outside and the reality is I feel the same burn out you talk about. I look my phone constantly as you said looking for dopamine and the routine drives me. I think it is more the way of life this century a society has set for us. I watch your videos or other uk you tubers and then envy how many business, activities, national parks you have to spend time things that here jus don't really work because we have a really nice weather to warm occasionally. What I want to say is that maybe moving is not what you think it would be, you are very proud of your UK way of life and politeness (I mean the way you interact with others) and that will definitely going to change if you move abroad as it will be a different culture. Just giving other perspective
If you watch the ShadowsAtmidnight vlog , Kayleigh, her husband and their two small children, you may change your mind about the UK. You may see it through her eyes and realise what a wonderful country this is despite our awful politicians and the media. You may see our weather with it's chanagable seasons as a blessing and something to be celebrated as a family rather than feared. What a beautiful family you are just like Kayleighs and yet you are looking at things in a different way. I dont think Kayleigh and her family have endless new material things and experiences and yet they are so happy, so grateful for each day and what it brings with all the simple things on their doorstep just like you really deep down. Turn the news off, go outside together in all weathers and have an adventure for free in the woods, by the sea, well anywhere really, Hannah wants peace and a slower pace of life and it is possible here I promise because I still experience it each day having brought my family up here. Im so grateful for what I already have and that is the secret, its just that Kayleigh has realised this a lot sooner than I ever did. Dont run away when everything is absolutely fine. Bless you all. xx
Great comment. I think a lot of people who live in cities in the UK think thats the be all an end all of the UK. Instead of moving to another country why not just move to the countryside.
I completely agree with this comment and echo what Tina has suggested. I think a lot of this can be achieved here in the UK and I have commented previously. A lot of what you dislike about the UK (other than the weather) will still exist in Portugal; especially if you choose to live rurally. You will still be on TikTok, you will still succumb to social media influence and the children will still have moments connected to devices. I think what needs to change is your lifestyle. That will still exist in Portugal and many of the problems here (bar perhaps the weather) will still exist. I think you are stuck in a 'media doom loop' (which you admit) and are constantly chasing. I'm not against the move and all of me wants it to work for you but I have my doubts as to whether the specific move and house will bring happiness. The outside season is more extended in Portugal but so are the extremities. If the move is something you want to do then I strongly recommend an area with an expat community. One with perhaps an international school or international community. I would also rent initially if possible. You can then find your place in the country and find your way. As Tina has said I think a shift in your UK lifestyle would be more of a benefit. A smaller house in a more community based environment. Somewhere with less rain but affordable housing (East Anglia for example). You could then keep your campervan, enjoy the Summers in Portugal but find your place in the UK. A lot of these problems exist across the globe just in different ways. If you strip away all the consumerism, expensive outgoings and perhaps step away from social media you can achieve the life you desire without such upheaval. Best of all you could also do this and enjoy time off everytime the kids are off school. Whatever you decide I wish you all the best.
As one of your long-term followers from Australia, I completely agree with you Hannah when you said you are happier and feel better in warmer climates! Even living in the northern coast of Australia (not experiencing super cold winters), I am loving our current spring weather and the already-warmer days! My body feels better and I find the days easier to get everything done. There’s just something about being warm and feeling the sun! ☀️☺️🩵
it’s the weather- and the culture as well. we live in Woodstock, NY but from london. We’ve been in the US 7 years. we’re in a forward thinking open entrepreneurial environment with like minded people and good weather. it’s literally night and day from raising kids in london. you’re not going mad, it’s a real thing. life can be better! you can design your life to optimize things that are importantly to you and your family. most people just don’t. when you do you’ll find all the other people that do, and you’ll wonder why you waited so long. good luck ❤️
I start by saying that she is right about you eating all that meat. But once you move - find a local butcher and you can get local, fresh and good quality meat - and cut the way you want. Just learn the Portuguese terms for the cuts.
I am from South américa, i have been folloing you since 8 or 9 yeras from time to time.I do understand about the weather thing, I live in a place where I can choose the climate I want, we dont have seasos like the north or south because we are in the ecuator, anyway.I hope ypu enjoy the New life in Portugal, I know tris place, I livrd aldo in England , so I know how the wheather like and stuff..I would like to get you Black out cards soon. Sorry my English..
This is why we are where we are. The media has cleverly programmed ppl to instantly react emotionally, but if I asked you why, do you honestly know why? Climate absolutely makes a difference, British family living in Australia now

Really love talks like this, especially relate to your thoughts on technology and the expectation of being available all the time
