Might lose a finger or two, yes but then again, what else are the other 8 fingers for? Might lose your mind? Jokes on you, I didn't have that to begin with
GOTTA love some OO stuff brother. I can’t even say I’m a complete N scale modeler I just haven’t personally been doing the OO as much recently 😅 If you have the space it’s highly recommended my homie, you’ll have a blast
That is a hobby knife my brother, but sadly was my only Exacto blade during recording :/ Personally I’d recommend nail clippers over anything for the job? The way those cut can be varied though so knives end up being simpler if you’re careful haha
Yeah, I've just finished a Peco OO LMS Cattle Truck and it's a real shame so few railway modellers build wagon/coach kits these days due to the amount of good r-t-r models turning people away from kit-building. Someone once said that railway modellers are keen to glue together and paint plastic building kits with 4 sides and a roof, but add 4 wheels under it and it suddenly seems impossible.
It really is a shame!! I think maybe it's the same with many hobbies though, people are quick to buy rather than build these days. I can’t say I’m much different being a heavy EZ-track user since I hate the process of ballasting, but I do feel like it gives the models more personality when you use yours in the process haha
I've got a real train question for you. So, I've had a wooden train set for a while and it had a rail car that had what I would call a "cradle" that tilted sideways I would assume to dump something out. Does that type of car exist in real life? And what is that car called?
It sounds like a dumping wagon or a dump car!! Also you’re absolutely right homie if they’re what I’m thinking they are that’s exactly what they’d do too. It could also be one of those ore mining wagons? But ultimately those serve the same purpose, here’s some info on some American ones if you’re interested!! :) railindustryspecialist.com/projects/side-dump-car/
@ItsTrainBoy When I had that set I would always imagine a little baby in that car and I would rock it to sleep, because of the way the cradle moved side to side rather than front to back like a traditional dump truck.
I am begging and pleading with you, please invest in a pair of plastic cutters. You can get them and some other tools from a Bandai model building kit.
You’re right bro dawg those would’ve been perfect here, I went and broke the last pair on a couple of OO rails-😔 Here’s to hoping the replacements aren’t held up too much longer in the mania of snowstorms haha
It’s pretty much a flat wagon that in this case is paired with another of the same type to haul something long and kinda flatter; that could be wood or rails or a bunch of stuff. They’re the smaller version of the larger ones you’d see on something like Thomas that are single units :)
"I still don't feel comfortable with a hobby knife", Uh... you're forgetting to brace the part with your thumb... Its kinda like whittling. You may also want a couple of heavier duty utility knives that have a good grip (dont forget to keep your knives razor sharp, it makes them safer). After learning how to use a knife, you should now have far fewer accidents, the knife should cut more cleanly and smoothly. I've been using hobby knives since the age of five and learned somethings the easy way, some the hard way.
It’s highly disturbing that a parent would allow a 5 year old even near an exacto knife? That’s not the hard way that’s kinda just recklessness. I also sadly found that technique didn’t really help much here since there’s not room to brace the knife with the thumb; I use that more with larger surfaces when the flush isn’t as close to the body. Anyone who uses a model knife should have a level of discomfort for basic safety in my opinion haha, gloves can be a help if they’re rated for such too. I found the issue more in the blade as the one I had was a larger one than a shorter one. If anything model clippers do the job cleanest :)
@@ItsTrainBoy shame that the thumb technique didn’t work for you. My grandfather introduced me to model kits at that age, he was born in 1936, so he was used the old fashioned way of giving a kid a knife and teaching them to whittle at a young age. I only have baldy cut myself once (because it was a dull curved blade on a plastic scalpel handle) but now, as long as I’ve made sure that the knife has been recently stoned and stropped, I left the discomfort behind years ago, but razor saws, I never have trusted those things!
The bolster wagons boost my confidence
The bolster wagons.. boost *me*
The only tutorial I trust. Might lose a finger or two, but that’s just part of the hobby. Am I wrong?
If not that your mind.. maybe a bit of both 🤣

So would you say he does things The Great Western Way, Duck?
Perfect time to upload, I’ve been re-watching all your modeling videos for inspiration
2:42 we need an official Trainboy “Y’know” counter XD
The flatbeds look great and do look pretty simple aside from slicing the buffers. Been loving the N scale stuff it looks so good.
I’m calling myself lucky to have just lost the one all things considered haha 😅
Thank you so much my homie!! :)
@ItsTrainBoy Of course and thank you. This is good stuff.
Trainboy's Sodor/America ho scale layout is coming together greatly
Always have TrainBoy supervision when making plastic kits from scratch
epic, i'm more of an OO gauge person myself, but seeing your content about N gauge might make me make something from N scale, When i get the money

Nice Flatbed… PUT A BALLOON ON IT
Awesome video trainboy
Not as awesome as you my brother man 😎💪
@@ItsTrainBoy thank you for the reply 🙏
Haven't heard of a bolster wagon before. Interesting
This guy has the right idea, there’s a brake van kit I need to finish.
3:25 I’m guessing you don’t use hobby knives to take off hangnails?
That is a hobby knife my brother, but sadly was my only Exacto blade during recording :/

Best model yet
Loved this tutorial style video! would love to see how you do all your N scale customs too

You could try the Calling All Engines girder truss thing.
4:01 bro tore that buffer up like it was ass on christmas... wait i think i worded that wrong
Peco kits are amazing for the price plenty of variety and better then spending extra on bachmanns "thomas tax" aka 30 bucks a car or more
Man I adore that term- The Thomas Tax is so fitting to so many things 🤣
Just imagine the amount of small logs this puppy could carry
Thomas: do my side rods make me look fat?
Have you ever 3D printed anything that is HO or 00 scale??

What is a Bolster Wagon?
@@CalCon04 In lame terms it’s just a wagon that carries something long and thin, like maybe some rails or a longer log :)
@ ohh so a flatbed basically?
@@CalCon04 Pretty much!! The wooden things on top keep it all straight :)
@ ohhh that makes sense.
The more you know :)
Another upload by TrainBoy!

Ok kinda dumb and obvious question: What the hell IS a bolster wagon? What was their function?
