  • Today we have Karon adding to our resource list at Westridge Florist by showing us how to preserve Eucalyptus. Your Eucalyptus must start out freshly cut to absorb the formula easier. The formula is made up of blue dye, glycerin and hot water. The hot water is used to ensure the glycerin and dye combine together nicely, however, the water must cool before placing in your Eucalyptus. Results can start to show within hours as seen in the concluding photos here at Westridge Florist.
We would love to see what inspirational designs you come up with using your preserved Eucalyptus, so make sure to post a photo and tag us on Instagram and Facebook @Westridgeflorist :)

Love the video and advice but maybe next time - could you do your video when the mallnis closed.....The first three times you said food colouring i couldnt make out the words over what sounded like s large ,18 wheeler transport truck & the screaming child. Nothing thatvyou can fix after the fact butbyour video seemed to be theybonly one with the info i needed to reconstitute the eucalyptus and help.it carry on. If it doesnt work, then no problem, the plant material was given to me so its free & if it doesnt work this time ill keep my fingers crossed for next.
Perhaps could you also include a list of items you used for your 'recipe'. Thanks for your suggestions!

If im doing a lot i get a wholesale bottle but for little bottles, I used to get it from the supermarket but they don't seem to stock it now so I get it from the chemist. Not sure about Amazon just check its not already diluted and it should be fine.

Just till they grow roots which you should notice as plastic is clear, otherwise you will notice plant gtoeing. Then plant in the garden watch it grow and enjoy flowers.

Are you doing it natural or using food dye....i find if it takes the glycerine well it will hold the colour for years.

What I make my young tree? My tree leafs black, crispy, brown, :s

Young tree? If the leaves you use are to immature then they won't take up the glycerine properly. They will just die and go crispy choose mature leaves.

How long do I have to left them in the water/glycerin/food coloring?
I have seen videos where they use water with salt before they use the water with glycerin, what do you think about that?
    Thank you!!!💕

I only use the method I've vbloged as to how long to leave in mix... as the euc is a living thing it can vary not enough and they'll be crisp to much and in humid weather the glycerine can bleed. It's really trial and error but the dye is great because you can tell the euc has drank some of the mix. I err on the side off less better it's a little crisp than bleeding out the glycerine. One more tip the euc will take up better and faster if it's not from a thirsty tree so if possible water the tree the day before you pick it. One more tip store unused mixture in fridge to use for another batch.

Why did you add the blue food coloring? It does not look blue.

Thanks for pointing that out I didn't cover that at all. The eucalypt can loose it's gorgeous colour when you preserve it and the blue food colouring just gives it it's nice natural colour back.

I could definitely see a difference! The dye added a rich tone to the eucalyptus and it was beautiful!
