I like your paintings and I like the prima watercolor too. Thanks for showing us your art even when you are not so happy with the second painting. I like both
The Art Philosophy paints are good, near professional sets. I have the Current set and love it. Yes, I would be interested in seeing the other sets reviewed, especially the 'woodlands' one. I liked the paintings and the quirky tea cups. Your videos are always a delight. Have a nice Thursday, Becky, and rest of the week. V.
I like the wonky cup. The outline gave it a comic style feel that worked well. The others look fine too, just maybe a bit unfinished. An outline on those might work too. :) Cheap stuff... I am giving up on it. I got so much junk lying around and currently I am thinking that if I didn't buy that stuff, I could have had something nice instead that I actually would use and enjoy using.
Thank you! I did debate outlining the macarons but decided just to leave them for comparison purposes. Yeah cheap stuff is a total bust. I got suckered in by the packaging but also because other things I have tried from Typo have been ok. Not these though! 😭
I got the typo pastels recently and put them in pans about a week ago. I found that if you let them dry for ages out of the palette they do actually dry hard and I can't smell them unless I actually sniff it close up and that marshmallow texture does go away. I think the more thin layers you do in the pan, the less they crack. I haven't swatched them yet, so I'm hoping since mine are rock hard they'll be a bit easier to use than what your experience was. They were also super easy to put in the pans, just tapped them on the table to get any air bubbles out, didn't even have to use a toothpick or anything which was so much better than the Mont Marte tubes I bought, they never dry so I won't be taking those ones out anywhere haha
Belive it or not, imperfection is the stuff of painting. How much better your teacup is as it is; much better than a tight perfect replication. You got the spirit of it. Do more of that kind of painting. Go for the spirit of what you are painting. GOD BLESS.
Thank you, that's so sweet of you! I have some days when I can get proportions right, and others where it'll be totally off, but I keep all those artworks too. 😁
Haha, I notice it when others (especially with an American accent) really emphasise the pasTEL sound. We are much to lazy in Australia, so it's pastils mate! 😆
Hi Becky I've gone pastel mad as well, I've got the prima ones and I ordered the white nights pastel colours they are incredible. I'm now searching for more pastel colours. I've got all the prima palettes and I'm blown away by them in particular their shimmering lights and decadent pies, muted golds and coppers beautiful!!!!
I am tempted to get the prima ones. I actually have been obsessed with pastel watercolours since your Derwent video and you didn't even like those that much (with the lack of darks). Yet, as you're aware probably, I don't really do enough watercolours at this stage to justify anymore. I did buy some budget ones for an art haul I am doing for fun and to hopefully satisfy my obsession and yet, I still always want nicer ones. I am not experience enough to even know the difference between good and bad yet, like I can with other mediums.
The Prima set is at least useful....don't get the Typo ones because they're naaaasssssty! 😂 I think Kmart has a pastels set too - they might be worth picking up if they're cheap enough. I haven't tried those ones.
I don't do well with cheap 😂 I like expensive versions 😝I always want decent quality to professional (with watercolour it doesn't matter as much as I'm too inexperienced to know).
Pastels are fun to play with!have the American set that you have….they all seem to be decent….White nights has a pastel set that has good color as well.
I always add honey when my paints crack. I don’t understand all the intricate binders that go into watercolors, but I was able to revive all my cracked paints with honey so far.
Ooo, those are Purdy! I got the Mungyo set instead tho and the Meiliang one (I’m in New Zealand) otherwise I’ve use Reeves..... so that’s a shame about the smelly Typo ones, they’re purdy too (I’m not worried about the cracking,a bit of vg helps with that)
I am pretty sure the Mungyo paints come from the same factory as the Confections, as they look really similar! The gross smell of the Typos was the worst part. Even now when I open the tin...foof!
Me back again.... cos I was searching YT and saw this not realising I’ve watched it before, haha.....I just saw Anko by Kmart had the 12 pastel watercolor paint tube set similar to those Typo ones yesterday, so I got them... they were only $4.50 NzD too.... not bad! They must be different tho, the colours were slight diff.... only 1 green but 3 blues, 2 purples, 2 pinks, a yellow and cream, a peach/apricot, a bigger tube of white... and no grey or black
Amazing video. Just love both of the colors. They have a really great aesthetic appearance! And loved how your paintings turned out. The macarons are my fav!! Watched the whole video. See you in your next one! 😊😊
Thank you; I was going through a pastel colour phase for a while, haha. Most of the time I prefer brights but every so often that pastel look is really pretty and soft. Thanks for watching! 😆💜
@@BeckyTregear Yeah I also prefer pastel colors. They give an amazing aesthetic touch to paintings! Thanks for sharing this video! Wish you best of luck for your next one 😊😊💕🌈🌈
I mentioned this recently elsewhere but Ive gotten the most use out of that vintage pastel set. Its a good chalky opaque that I enjoy. The blue in particular makes for cool shadows when painting and Ive just about abused it. I have an obsession with pastel sets and its my favorite. That local watercolor set looks pretty lovely itself. All other pastel sets Ive had to order from korea and japan brands .
I would love to see the other sets of prima of have, so far I have not bought any. The vintage pastels are pretty. I would rather novelty sets like the pastels than more regular sets. Thanks for sharing!
Mine are all jumbled up as I combined them into one big set, but I will go through the colours and work out which ones belong to which smaller set. There are quite a lot, lol.
@@BeckyTregear oh lol…what a pain, it’s up to you. I can check them out on a different channel. I keep telling myself I don’t need anymore, lol. I thought they were expensive when they first came out, but I have seen the price drop as I just looked on Amazon. I like your “ wonky” teacup. I have quite a few disasters in my watercolor sketchbook. That’s how you learn, well that’s what I hear anyway, lol. Thanks again for all of the videos!
The typo paints cracked so terribly like they’re clay rocks💀 the vintage set seems to perform a lot better! I’m obsessed with pastel colors lately, so this was fun! Btw I definitely have a few duds as well, so I get what you mean😂
Duds are inevitable really! More embarrassing when they're on camera but funny too, and I generally keep everything anyway; the good, the bad and the downright weird! 😂
I'm a person who really dislikes trends in art supplies and I like too seek alternatives, niche products or "less popular"... Unfortunately I often find that there is a reason why cheap or unpopular products are never mentioned. There is definitely a huge difference among these two sets you got (both, time resistance and execution). My oldest set of watercolors (which happened to be my first "professional") is from White Nights (the small one, 12 colors), I haven't used it for years and I was so happy to find out after 10 years that it looked exactly how I left it. How many Prima palettes do you have? :)
The White Nights are really nice! I have most of the Confections sets except for complexion because those colours are from other sets, and the latest ones terrain and currents. Those are pricy right now. I think there was also one called Celestial that never made it to full production? Only a few people have that one. 😭
I really like them! Most of the Prima colours I have are good, aside from a couple which are a bit meh, but overall they've been working well - I tend to use them in my sketchbooks. 🙂
I'm so sad about the typo set! I was hopeful if it failed for watercolour, it might do as a gouache (fellow aussie here, & having trouble sourcing cheap gouache to play with). Also I liked the teacup; it had a nice stylized look. Thank you for sharing.
I was also disappointed by the Typo ones because I'd spent so long looking for them. I think they might work better straight from tube? But the strong wet carpet smell was a deal breaker. 😭
Interested to see those other sets of Prima. I think the teacup painting was ok until you painted the top around the cup, (12:55) the colors were working well till then. I liked that strong diagonal shadow line you had with the white paper. All paintings are good paintings as we learn from every one :) Thanks for showing us all your works.
I just ordered a set of 12 5ml tubes of Holbein pastel watercolors from Blick… I’m very anxious to try them and I’m wondering if you’ve had the opportunity to try them… your thoughts?
No, I haven't seen that set before! I have a couple of pastel colours in my general set of Holbeins and they are very nice. I like all of the paints I have used by them so I am sure it will be a lovely set! I will have to look out for it.
That sucks the typo paints didn't work out, the tubes made them look like they were going to be so pretty! I have one prima palette somewhere I got a few yours ago and now I need to find it. I think it's the skin tones one, I need to look more into their palettes because I remember liking the paints, but I feel they add white into a bit of their paints or it could just be the one I got? As always, love the artworks, even the teacup :)
I like your teacup and saucer.. it has a loose painterly look to it.. I might have left off the fineliner though.. kept it loose.. and I'm chopping at the bit trying to not buy another set of watercolors.. lol..
Haha yes I regret the fineliner, lol. But it looked weak without it.....oh well I can always try it again. There are other Prima sets that I am dying to collect too, but they're on the expensive side right now!
I was wondering why you talk so fast and then realized I had the video on 2x speed😅 I love the vintage pastel set I have it too but they are so chalky and rough, at least my set is, I think I got an older version unfortunately
Haha that's funny! 😂 My set seems to be holding up well....I think certain batches can end up being better or worse than others. Disappointing when it's a bad batch 😭

I think companies dint have to disclose Pw4 if used as a filler or pacifier in paint so they might contain that for lightening the colors.
