- Single piston engine, startup and smooth running.
Gas powered, originally made to be fed with coal gas. Veeeeeeeery loud bang! No way.. you can't imagine with your speakers...
Displayed and run at Piacenza Fiere (Piacenza exhibition center) by the owner.
The engine is revved with compressed air.
More details here:
• National old gas engin... Авто/Мото
About 40 years ago I was working at the Giles weather station in central Australia.
They had 2 old Nation 4 cylinder diesel each was about 10 feet tall.
These National engines had been running in the power station for about 50 years without any failures they had remote cooling towers and were air start the fly wheel was about 7 or 8 feet in diameter.
To start them you had to decompress the cylinders then using a long spanner to rotate to top dead centre on cylinder 1 then using a hand pump mounted on the wall pump up the air pressure hit cylinder with the air pressure when spinning release the decompression leaver.
These engines had been doing 600RPM’s for 50 years.
I’ve never seen anything like them since.
I have been an engineer all my lifee and Im getting OLD like these lovely machines. If you asked me "what is music to you" I would say these old stationary engines! SUPERB
Wow, that's all the machines are so old. I really like this kind of machine. Thank you for uploading this video to the world. You can watch this video after the next generation. Really you are a wonderful person. Thank you again.
Absolutely
Bbbb. ..
This is one monster engine that I would just love to own. Nice machine for sure. On my BUCKET LIST.
But what about that moon rocket you also want to own?
We're talking to elon
@@arkanoid1980
Oh, sorry.
I thought you were alone.
@@FrankHeuvelman they may need a torque generator on the moon
@@arkanoid1980
Not as big as here.
Why does it fill me with bliss to hear this?
Beautiful machine!
Oh that’s lovely!
Watching this and about halfway through, my wife comes into the room wondering what that strange noise was...
I just showed her the video and said “isn’t this lovely?’’ She rolled her eyes and walked out.
It’s her own fault being married to an engineer! 😂😂😂
Monty Zumazoom Hahahahaha 😂
Cỗ máy quá tuyệt ,nổ cầm chừng thưa hiếm thấy ,đẹp nữa chứ !
She missed out on something special and historically significant.
Non immaginavo che che anche in Italia ci fossero questi tipi di motore ! Complimenti al proprietario che lo ha mantenuto fino ad ora come nuovo !
From the country that produced the amazing high revving MV Agusta Grand Prix racing motor cycles! Love this old fellow.
Very cool! "Thunk, hiss......thunk, hiss......thunk, hiss........."
This engine will almost certainly still be working in 300 years' time!
The same goes for the old Lister engines...... really built to last.
M4
GN shut up and go drive your new cars that only last
One year.
Such engines are lying idle in Pakistan
Father of torque.
That "OLIO FIAT" overall! I need it when I'm driving my Seicento!
Hahahahaha
2HP but 10,000 ft lbs of torque!
1200ft pounds 1hp?
Lmao
@@Patriots4343 1hp is the ability to lift 1lb 1200ft in 1 minute!
This engine is quieter than my 2015 tundra.
A beating heart, breathing longues and a windpipe to exhail...
It sure is alive❤
That breathing sound makes me extremely uncomfortable
Wspaniały, coś pięknego.
I ran across a huge hit and miss engine this size in a Wyoming oil field a number of years ago. My God the exhaust was loud! Every time the engine would fire you could hear it from 5 miles away! Up close I had to hold my fingers in my ears, I didn't have any ear plugs with me. Thank goodness it was in a very remote location, nobody living withing 20 miles. LOL
Why to exacerate, the fascination comes from that all!
Drops a sick beat
amazing tec. for tho;s days, @ still running.
I only have one thing to say!……..MAGNIFICENT!
Quell'affare avrà una coppia mostruosa!
A full-speed/stuck throttle situation on this one would be an awesome sight ...!
It would be awesome. But if the flywheel failed, which has happened, the carnage would be devastating. I noticed ball type governor on the engine. As long as it's functioning, max speed...not runaway, would be an impressive sight.
What a BEAST!
I see in your comments that everybody loves these old machines ... Yeah man ,,, I think this is the biggest one ... I've ever seen ...
That's amazing ,,, it wasn't running until 1:20 in ...
Excellent design and workmanship. Wonderfully and extremely low carbon emissions. What a perfection of diesel engine. Salute to preserve the history.
@Martyn Watson , What is it?
@Martyn Watson Sort of.
Very nice video.
Amazing,very interesting,thank you👍🤗
I want that!.... sounds like a chitty song is about to kick off...
This is the new 2020 eco diesel.
When your neighbor start this early in the morning
Man that flywheel could turn you into pâté!
I swear this is the sound I make when I have to get up early monday mornings.
😅😅😅😅😅
Such engines are lying idle in Pakistan
Don't know what I would ever do with it. But I want one!
Backup generator would probably be the most practical use.
Well, I'd go out and start it every Sunday morning about 2 hours after my noisy neighbors finished their party at 3am. I'd just watch it run...it's a feast for the eyes and mind...
I think I will put this in my garden and attach it with a generator for watching TV. My wife will appriciate...
Sì, in effetti la didascalia è imprecisa. Parlando con il proprietario, ho saputo che questo motore era alimentato a gas povero prodotto mediante un gassogeno e faceva funzionare mi pare una filanda.
I think that was the type of engine in my 78 Chevy vega at least it sounded that way.
No, this engine isn't continuously smoking.
how many piston do you have
ONE
hahaha, what a small engine
....
how much torque ?
YES
it must be preserved in good working condition, soon or after 2030 no IC engine will be there.
2:20 they had to slow it down..lol.. it was fixing to take off. Cool.
Looks bad ass.
I was a chemist at a coal gas plant and we had two large gas-fired engines as a backup to the electric motor-driven pumps to pressurize the gas to the gasometers. The gas-powered engine would be started every couple of days to ensure they would work if we had no electric power. Sure made a great sound when both gas engines were on.
interesting. Where?

this video is from 10j ago, is this engine still running on a museum somewhere?
Four minutes to start, ten minutes to stop. Wonder what's the weight of that contraption. Only the flywheel seems to weigh a couple of tonns.
Very nice
Old is gold
That's a nice beat
It's really amazing
I asked Alan Millyard if he thinks he could get this in a motorbike frame!
What firing sound....
muy bueno. excelente para ir a ver.
Cool old monster! What are the RPMs and the horse-power? I'd like to see a Stirling Engine around this size. I'd guess it'd be worth about 30 kilowatts of power, more or less.
I dont truly know, but I'd guess 30rpm, 10hp, 100000000000000000000000000000000000lb/ft of torque
@@carter.colemanNot 100% certain, but iirc, horsepower on these type engines is a function of flywheel size. I'd wager
The machine keeps telling me to "shh!", must have been a robot librarian
It sounds alive
Bagus mesinnya
Amazing
Wow very big engine 👌👌💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻😀😀😀
They should install a safety cage round that flywheel = meat grinder.
Классный аппарат круто 👍👍👍
Its so quiet, I expected it to sound like a cannon
it did, but the old fuji had a crap mic
dont you hear the echo? there is an echjo when it bangs
very. nice
Is speed control via “hit and miss”? What was it’s purpose? How was the coal gas obtained? Who designed and built it?
Back in those days, coal gas was the predecessor to natural gas and propane. Most city gas supplies (for lighting) would have been coal gas. It's acquired by cooking coal, in the same process that turns it into coke, which is burned in forges. My guess would be that this engine was installed in a place with access to city gas supply. Either that, or at the place that made coke and coal gas.
Built in England national gas and oil engine company
No cooling system?
Fuel efficient
DO you have the specs to this engine by change? Displacement, HP, torque?
unfortunately I have not
Looks like a very weak support for the out rigger bearing .
Very big vs strong machine
Does it have V-tec?
Just imagining that flywheel coming off at high rpm.. 😅😂
run baby run
2hp @100 rpm 9600fps torque 4.5 lit displacement
A lovely machine! Not actually Italian though, despite all the Italian flags. If it was Italian it would run in either direction :)
I see what you did there.
Most certainly isn't French. It would have given up before it started😊
If you want to do something fun, try doing bong hits at the same pace as this ripper!
You brother-in-law are lying in Pakistan
Yeah, but can this fit in my Honda?

Good I like
can anyone tell me why the piston is always exposed at end of strike on these old engines?
Is it for easy lubrication, or cooling or saving weight of cylinder iron or boring long cylinder?
I always assumed it was to save weight and money, but that's just a guess.
For easy maintenance,so the piston position at the end of strike is more reachable, apart from you had mention above
Back when England made things
I feel that. We used to makes things in the US, too. We're screwing ourselves.

Where to buy such engines and huge diesel engines single cylinder?

Was the original fuel diesel or gasonline?
for what I know it was coal gas
