It's raining hard here since yesterday and while yes it fills the water tank but we are worried about the flooding issue because of the neighbour 😢 if there is a lot of damage seriously considering jacking it in.
The ericaceous soil would lime work? I don't know but thst would make the soil acidic ... I might need ti look into that 😂
I'm looking fwd to seeing how the pink blueberries go first for us.
Out of hundred of marigold seeds we have 2 😂
I'm not doing cucuamelons this year.

Ok someone commented that moss works good on blueberries so I’m off to harvest some from the lawn. Dry it out and put on top of the plant soil 🤞. I hope the field isn’t too bad, are there allotments in your area you can apply for ? Just in case. My marigolds last year were stunning this year shite WTF it’s not an easy game is it. I swear once I’m don’t with seed I have it’s just starter plants from the on 😜😜, let somebody else do the hard part and I’ll just plant stuff. Pots off the ground seem to be working 🤞 and I will be doing same on the other side come winter (😜my backs aching thinking of it). I think some times people that buy starters are smarter than all of us, don’t need 300 seeds that last a year and take forever to germinate, just buy 6 or so starters and off to the races. You i think said you call them 'Starters' we call them 'Plug Plants' nothing wrong at all in getting them and using them, they still have to be nurtured and grown so i don't see the problem, they won't grow themselves.
Oh and our Weather is crap it's Rain, Rain followed by Wind and Rain then the Wind dies off and then we get a bit of Sun and then Rain and Wind again.

I seem to be hearing from most people they like wet 🤦🏼‍♀️ so I will have to find a spot where they are easy to water 💦 in our drought filled days of summer. I am trying to be eat what I grow and grow what we eat but these were a why not Gerald loves celery moment 😜, it will come back to haunt me. Cooled down somewhat now but it will be back to insanely hot summer soon. Have an awesome weekend Shawn 👍

Hi Ali, if you can put some cardboard in between the soil and coir mat for your spinach hanging baskets that may help retain water.
I know you said not to mention it but a great name for a band would be Toms sunny beet miner slugs.

      @myrustygarden  5 месяцев назад +1

Oh fab idea I will, check on some cardboard and do that when I resow. 😜 well the band can go on bloody tour now thank you very much 🤦🏼‍♀️. Never had slugs eat so many oddities, I was just saying to Chris at Veggie Plot they have acquired a taste for salsa 🤭. Have a great day Ady I’ll watch your video in a sec 👍👍

Instead of straw on your blueberries, get that incessant moss that grows almost everywhere, dry it and use it for mulch. It does have a slight acidifying effect.
Second option is a bit more complicated but works. Wash egg shells thoroughly, grind into almost dust, 1 large spoonful in a jar plus 1 cupful of vinegar, stir, let foam ( it really does foam a lot) and let it sit, stirring a few times, and you have calcium acetate which both acidifies and provides calcium.
    1 drop per litre!
Any fruiting plants benefit from it.

Oh great idea we have loads of moss here in the garden👍. Some fabulous tips and what I love about RUclips gardeners we can always learn a trick or two. Have a simply awesome week I’m off to harvest moss 🤭🤭

Still no real rain for you yet, except at the end I see, between the slug cursing lol. Celery works anywhere it can be kept moist so depends on how good you are at watering. I'm terrible so I like it in the ground with a bit of compost. The slugs will attack them but don't bother when established.

Oh lord not something else the slugs like 🤦🏼‍♀️ at this rate I’ll be growing everything on the ceiling. This is why my bush beans are all hung up in baskets. Oh well that gardening, a day of rain and back to sun again. Have a good one Mike 👍👍

Celery would be best in one of your beds and dappled shade in the afternoon is OK. They are water monsters.
Yard long are different...a little nutty flavor.

Ok I’ll find a spot for it 👍. Yard long are sure tiny plants to,start I’m so used to normal beans 🫘. It’s sunny and warm today but rain on the way so I’m doing bits of work in the greenhouse. The beets I’m going to hide in a mesh box because I don’t want leaf miner to get them too. Happy gardening 👩‍🌾

@@myrustygarden Roly poly's seem to be a problem, leaf minor has only gone for the nasties so far. Kinda a bummer on the pots it's a feature plant.

All looking great Ali. I might steal the hanging baskets with pots. I have spare baskets.
Thats awful about the wildfires. 😢
I am a pea lover fresh and uncooked. 😊
I chuckled at your tomatoe spares comment. 😅
My broad bean attempt over winter 22/23 turned out as a long waste of time.
Upbeat is a free music channel not quite the same but may work.
Black pansies were the first thing I ever grew. 😊
I need to plant some runner beans. My honeysuckle is loving it's position and i have another further down. I have a poorly jasmine though i need to move.
I didnt know anything about leaf miner till recently. I have neglectfully grown leeks and beets in the past.
    Have a great week.
    Take care, Jane

Thanks Jane it’s not easy getting anything done is it when the rain won’t stop, again today 😢. We don’t even like broad beans 😜 but they were a gift from someone so I taught I better try, these are the second sowing the first rotted in winter cold. I’ll check upbeat I love listening to music perhaps I’ll just need a mini hearing piece. I had not seen or heard of leaf miner either until last few years and though only of allium one. There is beet leaf chard leaf 🍃 seems any leaf 🤬, but my fault I should have done more research as they lay eggs in the soil and over winter there, so tilling the soil during snow may have killed off the eggs. But noooo I go plant stuff right on top 🤦🏼‍♀️.
Live and learn is what gardening is all about I guess. Have an amazing week Jane hope the weather is kind 🥰

@myrustygarden it's a tricky thing balancing bugs. I had some lovely dark almost black Lillie's for years, i had to cut them to avoid storms as top heavy. Never suffered then along came the beetle and wiped then out. 😢
It's drier today but am down with a cold. So catching up on videos. 😂
Hope it dries up for you soon. X

@@GardenMyselfHappy I have black Lillie’s all over and thank god so far lily beetles have not made the flight but I’m sure they will soon enough. Which will decimate half my lily forest 😭😭
Hope your feeling better it’s hmm yep raining again 🌧️🌧️🌧️

Hi Ali, I love those black pansies, amazing. My compost has been mostly crap this year, so many times I have tried to grow swede from seed in different composts they grow a little turn yellow and die so I am going to resort to buying some plants from the garden centre😩

    • @myrustygarden
      @myrustygarden  5 месяцев назад +1

I’m m thrilled the pansies self seed every year and I don’t have to do anything 🤷‍♀️ who knew they did that. I will have to totally deal with soil this winter tilling may be needed to kill off larva from beasties hiding. Between fungus gnats and leaf miners and flea beetle the ground is teeming with pests 🤬. Why can’t slugs eat them 😜. Starters are the way to go I’m thinking 🤔 why buy 300 seeds for 6 plants. Have a great weekend Iz hope it’s sunny 🌞

How much easier would life be without slugs Ali!! Everything is looking great. Have you grown cucamelons before? I grew them once and thought they were horrible. They look pretty though. Happy gardening x

Ahh slugs and leaf miners are my nemesis this year 😭, my chard has miners. But it’s early days so hopefully I can pick off the leaves and squish them 🤭. I’ve sown more and will keep separate from these. My own fault I should have never used that bed it had them on the beets last year. Gerald like cucamelons luckily but I don’t so,he can have them. Have a super weekend Isabel and happy gardening 👩‍🌾

What a difference a month makes. I hope you like cucamelon, we didn't. We are in weird limbo as we are hoping to complete the end of June so no idea what to do with the plants.
You have lots going on but the garden is looking lush. X

Yes I guess a lot of big containers are in the plan for things so you can move them 🤦🏼‍♀️. I know what that’s like, when we moved here we luckily had possession of both houses for 2 months or we would have had to leave so much behind. I don’t like cucamelon but oddly Gerald does he eats them off the vine. I keep saying I’m giving up veg 😜 and growing nothing but flowers next year, bloody slugs are eating onions and tomatoes that’s a first. But we soldier on.
Hope Nigel is well and you are not getting too stressed about the situation, it will all come true in the next little while and you’ll both be much happier. Always in my thoughts and prayers 🥰🙏

@@myrustygarden you are absolutely right. We will have my house and the new our first together house in parallel so we should do this in a controlled way.

Polytunnel looking good Ali. Nice and clean and tidy - how long will it stay that way? 😂 Hope the cucumelons bounce back! Hope the parsnips work out this time, none of mine have germinated. So I might re-sow again.

😜 it’s already a mess I think a bird or forty got in there and we’re ripping straw out of the pots 🤦🏼‍♀️. So I have to move stuff around and fix that now. Cucamelons are ok I guess but they should d better once it warms up more often. Parsnips I have 2 slug survivors but if I don’t find him they will mostly likely succumb 😭. Happy weekend Mark
