CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Marv (Mickey Rourke) fights the cannibal Kevin (Elijah Wood) and feeds him to the wolf.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The Eisner Award-winning comic series Sin City comes to life in this live-action feature adaptation from director Robert Rodriguez and creator Frank Miller. Interweaving multiple storylines from the series' history, this violent crime noir paints the picture of the ultimate town without pity through the eyes of its roughest characters. There's the street thug Marv (Mickey Rourke), whose desperate quest to find the killer of a prostitute named Goldie (Jaime King) will lead him to the foulest edges of town. Inhabiting many of those areas is Dwight (Clive Owen), a photographer in league with the sordid ladies of Sin City, headed by Gail (Rosario Dawson), who opens up a mess of trouble after tangling with a corrupt cop by the name of Jackie Boy (Benicio Del Toro). Finally, there's Hartigan (Bruce Willis), an ex-cop with a heart problem who's hell-bent on protecting a stripper named Nancy (Jessica Alba). Featuring a who's who supporting cast that includes Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy, Devon Aoki, and Nick Stahl, Sin City promises to be one of the most direct translations from page to screen of a comic series, with shots and dialogue adapted straight from the original comic's panels. Rodriguez quit the Director's Guild when they refused to let Frank Miller co-direct the film, a deal hashed out after the two collaborators developed and shot the opening scene utilizing a green-screen process to harness the stark, black-and-white look of the books as a litmus test for the rest of the production. Quentin Tarantino was brought in and reportedly paid one dollar to direct an extended scene between Del Toro and Owen that amounts to one issue of The Big Fat Kill miniseries.

For anyone who wonders why Kevin kicked the hanging coat, it supposed to be pitch black outside, even if there's moonlight, it was nowhere near as bright as the viewers see.
Kevin can be extremely responsive to sudden movement because he's an assassin, but without proper sight him hitting a fluttering coat that has the smell of his enemy isn't something too out of place, and that he countered the next surprise attack pretty easily.
But yeah, that scene still looks kinda hilarious

Kevin has insanely fast reflexes and can move without making any sounds or being detected. Marv knew right when they first met that Kevin was the one who killed Goldie only because of the fact that Marv never encountered anyone who could sneak up on him...Marv deduced that whoever killed Goldie had snuck into his room, killed her, and left without Marv even noticing. Therefore, considering this, it would not be surprising that after leaping into the fight he would attack a "dummy" coat swaying in the wind. In fact, that is why Marv placed it there, as a lure.

I honestly thought he was gonna skin Kevin alive, then cut his limbs off, then burn the rest.
That's something that speaks volumes about Marv's character. He is fully aware of the horrible things he can and willingly chooses to do, but he's got a decent sense of morality and knows when to pull back from savagery and when to fully embrace it.
I honestly thought it was going to be much worse than it was with that line. Lol
@@clockworkNate Marv sawed Kev's legs and arms off, put torniquets to slow the bleeding just to prolong Kevin's deat. It was slow and agonizing. Being eaten alive is a pretty tortuous way to go. Ironic how Marv was denied his catharsis from killing Kevin. He wanted Kevin to scream in agony, to suffer loudly, yet Kevin gives him nothing.

It makes you wonder; was Kevin so calm and collected he went through some of the worst pain without letting his killer show it, or was Kevin so detached from empathy that not even his own torture and death was enough suffering for him to care about?
John Porteous He was a supernatural being, a demon, said so by the directors, I imagine that’s the reason. Also not he only demon, I forgot her name but it’s the Asian woman, she’s a ‘good’ demon
I don't buy that, They are real humans, just doing shit and being psycho.
If the people who made the story say he's a demon then he's a demon. Whether you like it or not is irrelevant to it's factuality.
The asian women you're referring to is called Miho. She's also swift, agile and extremely deadly just like Kevin, except she only kills to protect herself and the people she cares about, which is probably what the 'good demon' thing they're talking about. Also, like Kevin, she is never heard talking. They're both completely silent and never utter a word for the entire movie, although Kevin is referred to as having 'the voice of an angel' by Roark, so they're not mute. Or at least, Kevin isn't.
@@Xylarxcode thats the definition of demons they're fallen angels they're used to be beautiful in all

TheSweetestCurse Well it is, sci fi is a huge category alone, it's not only about space.
Johan Dale same thing for fantasy. anything that isn't representative of of reality could be considered fantasy, too, but we use stricter definitions for a reason, my friend
TheSweetestCurse Well, i know it belongs to fiction but i don't know which sub category (neo noir - crime fiction ?), Fantasy and Sci Fi are different, sci fi shows possible scenarios and alternative realities while fantasy is an ancient genre based on mythos. My point still stands, so either tell me which is the correct fictional sub genre for Sin City or get this over with.

I agree I love that and the big smile on his face when the wolf comes around to eat Kevin
In the comic book, Kevin keeps fighting while handcuffed, very creatively too, and I was really looking forward to that part of the fight...
Oh well, I got an almost perfect adaptation, I ain't gonna complain about some detail.
Still, that part of the fight was cool in the comics, I urge people who've loved the movies to give them a shot.
You know you're scary when even Marv is scared of you
@HEATHER - Frank Miller has already stated that in the "Sinverse", the 2 most skilled killers are Miho and Kevin, the Blue/Red Onis, Yin/Yang, etc...
Marv won by the skin of his teeth in the rematch, I'm really happy about this adaptation (to bad the sequel took so long to come out, by then the Sin City craze had long died down);
I just wish they kept the part of the fight when Kevin keeps fighting even with the cuffs on... but I suppose that wouldn't have been very practical to do these stunts.

They didn't have the tech to make CG faces look that lifelike in 2005
Well, Mickey Rourke's face has a little make up...a prothesis to make his nose more prominent...not much else was needed. I imagine there was some used on Woods...or perhaps the limbless one is a dummy. It's hard to tell when the character is so motionless and blank faced.
Maybe because the lack of color allows us to pay attention to the structural details rather than the different shades of coloring and lighting, which is why we’re able to make those discernments.

Can you refresh my mind (it's been years since I saw this movie), what was Kevin's character all about/what did he do or want?
LuckyGuu Marv slept with a woman whom Kevin killed silently and painlessly in her sleep (no signs of injuries, no sounds, nothing, it's never shown how he did it). Marv had never loved anyone before and lost his shit, determined to torture Kevin brutally as revenge. Like Marv said: "When the bastard dies and goes to hell it's gonna seem like heaven after what I did to him"
ThorirEy thanks for the info on what Kevin did, but can you tell me anything more about him? (I don't have a DVD player now.) Is he just crazy/did he have any lines? I love the shadows on his faces, as he just sits there and his "white" glasses! = pure art E. Wood was the perfect choice!
LuckyGuu SPOILERS: he was a selective mute who a priest took in. He was also kinda crazy (he ate people so you guessed that) but he trusted the priest the most and he was the only person he spoke to (the priest said he had the voice of an angel). The priest was also the most powerful man in Sin City and when Marv went after him he got caught, tortured for a confession but never gave in until they threatened to hurt his mother, he was then executed (it took 2 turns from the electric chair to kill him and there is hinting that he survived). This is how I remember it, it's been a while
