  • A jury has found former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger guilty of murder in the shooting death of her neighbor, Botham Jean. Guyger claimed she mistakenly entered his apartment, thinking it was her own, and thought he was a burglar. CBS News correspondent Omar Villafranca reports on the verdict, and attorney Ken Belkin joins CBSN with analysis.

She is going get it reduced to manslaughter on appeal, I don't think she shot him maliciously she was a small woman on the streets and she was probably physically afraid most of the time working, that fear drove her to overreact and tiredness also played into it.

Tried to open my door, and then tried his key. I saw him through the peep whole. Saw the gun, asked him what he wanted. "Oh wrong apartment" and quickly moved to the third floor (his actual apartment). Idk how you would confuse your apartment in the third floor with mine in the second with a ring camera right next to the door whereas yours doesn't have one. Thankfully my paranoia of viciously locking every entrance to the house and barricading my windows stopped my neighbor from getting in. I look at this case and I wonder what would've happened if my door was unlocked.

When I opened the hatch, it only took 1/2 second to know with absolute certainty: this was not my car (and especially because someone was sitting inside it!!). I quickly apologized, closed the hatch, and looked for my car.
Reflecting back, I knew this wasn't my car even before I touched the hatch to open it, even though by all accounts it was virtually identical to mine. It just didn't 'feel' like mine....the energy was different. The next time I approached the wrong car in yet a different parking lot, it took less time to realize my mistake.
