I went through the Panama by ship in 1963 and 67 (yeah I'm pretty old) but seeing it from the deck of your yacht was so much nicer; what an experience hey?
Hi, we just joined your channel and LOVE IT !!! We like to see pics of the Panama Canal, Loni's Great Great Uncle Emlyn Richards (Welsh) was an engineer that worked on finishing the Canal and later worked for the Chicago USA sanitary district where he engineered how to make the Chicago river run backwards and take the sewage away from Lake Michigan, one of the Great Lakes. You have a FANTASTIC channel and deserve way more subscribers. We'll try to help, Loni & Al😍
Love that dingy! I've been thinking about building one but after seeing this I think I can cut my fiberglass one in half and make it work! So nice to have the extra room on deck. Gonna go measure it now. Welcome to the Pacific!
Love your vids. The sailing shots are great. Just watched this after viewing most of your SP adventures. You're doing it right, sad that you only have 6 months to explore the SP though. Keep posting!! 😀🤙⛵⛵🌏💙💥
You aren't the only ones living the dream, spent the weekend painting the fence, i know what your thinking! Yep, we've gone light oak. The neighbours are already checking it out! Living on the edge here in suburbia, thinking of washing the car on a weekday! stay safe.
Getting through the panama canal seemed painful. I probably go round south America than face the rigamarole...there are plenty o interesting stops enroute
Hey Amy and Matt, my memoires are, more sweet, of the living on my sailboats, 1st for a season, a used 1969 Cal 29 in impeccable condition, from April 1st till November 1st, wife my wife and two boysat the begining in 1976, on lake Ontario, NY and Canada, whenI sold my, new in 1976, Challenger 35, Full keel, Ketch. and moved to Florida, USA. I have only transited the locks from lake Ontario to lake Erie on my buddies 43' Chreis Craft tri cabin, Steel, cabin cruiser. I admire and envy you both. I am 86 in September. I am happy to be alive as I have survived a 4 wb-pass, in 12/2016 and a Paralytic Stroke in 12/2019. Starting in 2004. i have paddled over 15,500 miles here in Florida. I am trying to rgain my kayaking condition. With Gods help, I will again be able to do what I love. And, that is be on the water. Bravo to both Amy and you, Matt. Stay with it.
Holy moly 3 weeks waiting! I'm also surprised why the did not put more yachts in the sluss box. $1 800 fee is respectful. However, just peanuts to what the Panamax containerships pays:)
Yes great videos , but if the loud and jarring music continues I will sadly have to give up. Part of the reason for sailing is to be out in the natural world. Not just seeing it but hearing it. Yet when ever they stop talking there is just music. I really want like feel I am there, sharing their journey, but it just feels like some commercial for something that I am not interested in. This is sad and I am sure not what they intend. The music makes the journey feel rushed.
@@jamescarey6559 I read in one of their blogs that their camera/video equipment did not include - whatever the gadget is called to get rid of the sound of the wind, so they drowned it out with music. It was only in Australia, with the help of funds from patrons, that they were able to upgrade and buy the necessary video equipment. I've watched sailing videos where they've left the wind sounds in, and they are impossible to listen to.
Were all the costs included with the money you paid at the bank or were the line handlers/pilot extra? I'm guessing an entire cottage industry has grown up around the canal passage.
The canal advisor (pilot) is included in the fee, we paid extra for line handlers and extra fenders (tires). You can just get your friends to help as line handlers but our transit date got changed by the canal so we ended up having to pay local line handlers.
@@SailingYachtFlorence Excellent, she looks like just the thing we need. We had an inflatable but it was a bugger to row. We have a rigid dinghy but it's too unstable for this elderly pair and difficult to get into from our boat, an Irwin 37CC. I look forward to the video.
Really enjoy for videos. Thanks for sharing your adventure!

Great video. One of the best I have seen of a canal transit. Look forward to your Pacific crossing.
This one was just as good as Gone with the Wynns. I really enjoyed it.
Nice video as they all have been. Family appropriate as well. I prefer sailing videos without excessive drinking and smut. Nicely done!
I'm enjoying your videos very much. Keep doing what you're doing, and fair winds!
Congratulations guys, what an epic accomplishment!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great camera work guys ! Keep up the good work !

Gotta love the dinghy prep, heave Ho, sail ya beauty. Well done to both of you. Love your honesty and insight. On on.
Amy you always have such a big smile. It is also nice to see you in those pretty dresses. This has become one of my favorites.

just came across your channel and it's been interesting seeing how you have got on. Hope to see more videos from you.
Five years later...😊
love the sped up version of the men walking alongside the locks, reminds me of a sketch from Benny Hill. lol 😂
beautiful video

What kind of tender might that be? Love the half cut idea!
She was made by Amy's Dad from a set of plans, the design is a spindrift 9n (9ft nesting) bandbyachtdesigns.com/spindrift/
I wondered if the parts stacked, great design, much more convenient and durable than a folding dinghy.
Great Videos From all aboard the maxi Wild Justice

Yes the dingy is nice but the smiles she always has is just enjoyable. You gotta love those pretty dresses also.
I like how you guys always find a dog, cat ,chicken or pig to befriend on your journeys wolf was a cool dog
As I said before, you guys do a great job. It would be nice to turn the music volume down just a bit.

How do you keep your sailboat safe/secure when you’re exploring via your dingy or in town?
Howcome everyone is going through the Panama Canal and not around South America?
3 week wait? Damm... that is no joke.
good video.

@@SailingYachtFlorence did the line handlers and pilot stay overnight on your boat?
1800 usa dollars? For a boat that small? It's a ridiculous amount of money in my opinion , and a 3 weeks wait.
Ah, more pics of Flo. So she’s an Oyster Heritage 37? And is that a different Code 0?

What's the make of that dinghy?
Hi Kevin, She is a spindrift, the next video will be all about the dinghy (episode 83)
