  • I have my 'ums and ahs' with Netflix's animes, however, Castlevania has been a joy to watch, and I wanted to dive into a particular aspect that elevated this show beyond my initial perception of it, as well as looking into this weird phenomenon that is an actually decent videogame adaptation.

I liked Isaac in Season 2, but by Season 3 I loved him. His story became the main point of interest for me. Trevor, Alucard and Sypha became secondary characters in my eyes.

The great thing about Isaac is that he has the most complete arc. He's very close to being the protagonist simply because of the depth of his travels and thinking.

I fell in love with this character since the end of season 2, and constantly worried about his future before the final season came out. His conclusion was more heartwarming than I could've ask for! I was so satisfied to see him smile and proclaim that he'll continue living. It's so sad to finish such a beautiful story, and I hope to see a few Isaac cameos if they make more Castelvania.

Issac was loyal and saw through everyone's bullshit. He didn't have a specific weakness. He sorta gave up on love because when he showed it, it back fires on him. After Draculas death and defeating Carmella he seems to be the strongest there is. I hope he is in more episodes his path looks interesting.

Hard agree. While my favorite characters are still the main trio because I’m basic as heck, there’s no denying that Isaac had the most complex route of development, and the best growth overall.
Who he was at season 2 and who he ends up as in 4 is so realistic, well-done, and just fascinating to see.
If you’d like to watch more anime, MHA is a good starting point for this era, and you can build up from there!

i love characters like isaac because they can teach or remind you of valuable lessons that are applicable to life itself, like how revenge is a futile endeavour and finding inner peace and love for humanity is important.

Only instead of being BEATEN OVER THE HEAD with said lesson he slowly learns it over the course of the season, with his battle with the Granfaloon and The Vile Sorcerer being the final push that showed him who he would ultimately become if he didn't change his ways

Perfectly summarises one of the most complex and brilliant characters in the whole show.
Isaac is probably my favourite, and though the trio of Trevor, Sypha and Alucard are the heart of the show, Isaac's exploration of purpose, revenge and religion, and his just/righteous vengeance are incredibly satisfying to watch. He is an incredibly intelligent and courageous leader that is wracked by extreme emotional devastation and trauma, but still manages to stay in control. The scenes with his night creatures (fly eyes in particular) elevate this to one of the most intelligent adult animations I have ever watched. Isaac is a king

When The Captain and Isaac first encounter each other, The Captain already knows that Isaac is a forge master, without being introduced as a forge master by Isaac, himself. In a later episode, Isaac then reveals that he is a forge master, much to the surprise of The Captain. The correlation between the former & latter conversations are anachronistically askew.

    • @blueberrymcphuckerson9821
      @blueberrymcphuckerson9821 2 года назад +16

No, your memory is slightly off and the whole thing is more subtle. I'll argue it's not "anachronistically (contradictory) askewed"
When they first meet, The Captain hints that from his experience in being a sailor he knows that the "beasties" with Issac are actual demons and he knows to an extent Forge-Masters somehow control/command demons. However, it doesn't mean The Captain knows the specifics of the sorcery specifically how it works exactly. Later on in the more awesome Captain's Cabin chat; Issac mentions how The Merchant cracked a joke about wanting to be owed a favor from a Forge-Master so he can be saved from Hell. At that point, Issac explains to The Captain's questioning that his field of magic works because he uses his own humanity to pull souls out of Hell and brings them back into the mortal world by putting them into new bodies he "forges" for them (he forges demons by saving souls from Hell, he doesn't merely summon them). It's tacitly stated without being directly said that The Captain thought Forge-Masters simply controlled demons and/or didn't really fully comprehend what it meant to summon a demon from Hell: not that in one scene he knows exactly what a Forge-Master is then contradictory didn't know what a Forge-Master is at all due to bad writing.
If I can give an analogy (best example right now in my head) - let's say you know what an Intensivist is. You might know and understand that an Intensivist is a Doctor that is a specialist in treating critically-ill patients. However, you might not be aware and realize that a lot of Intensivists are also specialists in understanding/treating the Respiratory-System (breathing, lungs, etc.) because they usually deal with patients that have to be on ventilators (machines that control almost every single complicated aspect/detail of breathing to a certain extent). You were not fully aware that an Intensivist treats critically-ill patients by being an expert on their ability/need to breathe; you knew they dealt with critically-ill patients though. The Captain knows the general idea of an "Intensivist", but not the exact specifics of being an "Intensivist".
Personally, I really like this subtly between Isaac's and The Captain's interaction because you can see that part (breaking down of what a Forge-Master really does) as a building-up metaphorical presupposition to what The Captain is trying to teach to Isaac. Isaac has this amazing level of skill and knowledge that requires his use of humanity to work that most people, including Isaac himself, focus on the terrible possibility of (summoning demons that can cause destruction). Meanwhile, The Captain emphasizes his seemingly terrible skill and knowledge can surprisingly be used to save people (souls) from "Hell" (Issac can teach people to be better and make the world a less hellish place). We see that come into fruition in Season 4, especially when Flyseyes is questioning him about why he is using his Demons other than being mindless tools for destruction.

Part of the pacing issue is on netlfix decisions is that they want little episodes as possible and usually want one or two plots within that same time frame. Creating a lot of shows with pacing issues. Castlevania isn't the only one that suffers a very linear and small episode count.

Castlevania, the show, as the game made something almost revolutionary. I personally dislike modern shows just because of the forced LGBTQ+ characters that feel forced into the shows that lack any form of personality other than, their gender or smexual orientation. HOWEVER, this is, the perfect exemple on how to do an LGBT character and make it lovable. Isaac is obviously gay, yet this was never the main focus of his role in the show. He is a dark skin character, however this never mattered and it was never the focal point. Personally, I have have Isaac as my fav character in the show and I firmly believe that this is how characters should be written. First give them a character and a purpose, not just an empty shell that should be liked only based on his smexual orientation.
    With all due respect.
