This is a dance where the roles are switched. Understanding older Mexican practices, the father/husband has always been the head of the family. This dance essentially is making fun of how the "dominant husband" is now the domesticated partner in the relationship. The dance is started by giving the bride a belt and tejana (cowboy hat) and the groom an apron and broom. We danced around the floor as I gestured "whipping" Luke as he was also sweeping the floor. Later we ask the crowd to come forth with funny props adding to the stereotype (like a random baby, a beer, etc).
Este es un baile donde los roles se intercambian. Entendiendo las prácticas mexicanas más antiguas, el padre/esposo siempre ha sido el cabeza de familia. Este baile esencialmente se burla de cómo el "marido dominante" ahora es la pareja domesticada en la relación. El baile se inicia entregando a la novia un cinturón y una tejana (sombrero de vaquero) y al novio un delantal y una escoba. Bailamos alrededor del piso mientras yo hacía un gesto de "azotar" a Lukas mientras él también estaba barriendo el piso. Más tarde, le pedimos a la multitud que venga con accesorios divertidos que se suman al estereotipo (como un bebé al azar, una cerveza, etc.).
