I have never seen parking on a double helix before! I got to check this out someday! It's easy to get lost on these, but I've been to tons of double threaded helix's so I for sure wouldn't get lost!
Perhaps not much to see with regard to the lift, but the structure itself is fascinating, and there was a surprising amount of lovely old car-spotting. Series III XJ under the car cover, TVR Chimaera at the very end, and I certainly didn't expect that old Bristol just after the ticket gate.
I wonder how they built it? Would they have used tunnelling machines or dug a huge hole. If they did the latter that would have meant excavating the entire Bloomsbury historic square.
I normally dont even use car parks because the ones near where I live are so expensive to get and are really packed and then I end up waisting my money for nothing
Double spirals save space, but they all seem to do a terrible job of explaining how to navigate. There should be multiple large graphics or "you are here" maps showing people how it functions.
I love the high up buttons - from the bad old days when "stop kids messing about with the lift" was more important than "let wheelchair users use the lift"!
Well Ive got the perfect solution to the get lost problem take a picture of the inside indicator on the level closest to your vehicle so that you can easily get from point A to B
+mrmattandmrchay Its on 5:17. I couldnt uderstand whatever you were pointing because the lift was talking. But sttoped the vid, and seemed like the motor is half way and both car and cw ropes go to the top and then down the shaft using pulleys. That what I THINK I have seen. Thanks !.
+38911bytefree "and there is the drive motor". Yeah the motor room is half way. The motor sheave sticks into the shaft and the cables from each side of the sheave to the top of the shaft - one side goes to lift car, whilst the other goes to counterweight. So your description is exactly right :) There is no room for the motor room to be above, as this is an underground car park with a park on top of it.
I always askdd myself how to use a carpark in the UK as European... The Ticket machines are inky accessible from the right window... Unbuckle move over to the sidedriverswindow, open it get ticket, hand hooe the barrier doesnt close again until you start moving... Especially in london where exist many cars from mainland europe ( tourists) should exist something useful, because they want to keep out cars from the streets in the center...
I was at the long term parking in Heathrow Airport once and I saw a German registered BMW getting out the car park. What he did was to reverse to the exit barrier so the ticket machine would be on his side.
Thanks for the message, just interested, what content were you watching on tiktok to get here? I've never really been on tiktok, one too many social media platforms for me!
+Aaron Burtt yep (sorry for late reply!!). I am now on the 5th Mondeo (15 reg) - titanium with the "X pack" + loads of other gadgets and stuff. Love Mondeos and the new front is wicked!
That was the thought, back in the 60s/70s. Alarm buttons activated bells, and without auto-dialler (this was the 60s/70s) the caretaker would have to be called to investigate. So the button was placed high up. Of course, if a kid was in the lift alone, how would he/she get attention!!
Well that is true but thats a rare thing when a kid has to use it alone because even though they are safe to use by kids they can still get very badly hurt if the door slams shut on their finger so they really should have someone supervising them
The amount of money cities spend to park cars is truly astounding. Factor in the land use and it's actual insanity. I would guess the UK does better than America though.
I know why you got lost It's either because 1: you went in a different lift 2: you're on a diffrent spiral 3: you parked west and you might be walking on east

TheBigA If you want to also see a another double helix car park Come to Sydney because the Sydney Opera House car park is also a double helix

I remember watching this video when I was younger, and I really wanted to visit this place after that. Greetings from Scotland 🏴
It looks like the lift intentionally made you to get lost when you're coming back to your car :D
it's similar to the A and B system in a certain parking garage in america.
I wonder how they built it? Would they have used tunnelling machines or dug a huge hole. If they did the latter that would have meant excavating the entire Bloomsbury historic square.
Yes

Idk why parking sensors sound like a bomb that's about to go off. It could scare a new driver.
The whole thing is spiralling out of control.
I normally dont even use car parks because the ones near where I live are so expensive to get and are really packed and then I end up waisting my money for nothing
I can see the reason why they put a lower panel because it's not add compliment if they don't have that lower control
It's to make the lift DDA (disability discrimination act) compliant. When the lift was installed this wasn't really considered.
1:50 I like that yellow corvette c6
The parking space numbers also help

I think that you missed a lift when you passed another gap on the blue side.
As far as I know there is only one lift in this car park. At what time mm:ss did you see this?
mrmattandmrchay I think there might be one past the fire exit door at 8:45.
Joes LiftChannel you're right in the lift there is a sign in the back that says B that means there is another one

Well they probably would want the alarm really high to prevent kids pressing it willy nilly
That was the thought, back in the 60s/70s. Alarm buttons activated bells, and without auto-dialler (this was the 60s/70s) the caretaker would have to be called to investigate. So the button was placed high up. Of course, if a kid was in the lift alone, how would he/she get attention!!

Fucking over engineered
Doesn’t seem very disabled friendly having steps down to the lift you would have think there would be some story of ramp
