Their sense of time is next level, reproducing this without click is probably no problem. Jonah joined the project for this last number, he had been off doing a bit of solo stuff, notably a track called ”Coffee Break”, hence the title of this song.
And in all fairness you should immediately check out Jonah’s Coffee Break, an amazing little funky piece with awesome co-players like Richard Bona. Got very popular in South Korea and he recorded a version with a Korean rapper. These guys are endless fun.
They use some of the songs in their live shows, and all four songs are included on the Japanese edition of the "Phoenix" EP, so I don't think they'll mind if you say it's by Dirty Loops, even though it technically was a side project by Aron and Henrik during the pandemic, when Jonah was busy with his solo album and all gigs were cancelled. :D ETA: Oh, and Piggy is the plastic pig that features in all the songs, duct taped to Aron's drumset (or a mic stand, I'm not sure), often wearing some of Henrik's rings on its ears. In "Old Armando Had a Farm" Piggy is even credited for some of the creative work. 🤣 Maria Nilsdotter is a Swedish jeweller, who makes absolutely gorgeous stuff (and it seems Henrik is also a fan of her work). ETA 2: It's in 4/4 all the way through. You can set a metronome to it (it's 145 bpm iirc; it was some time since I tried to figure this one out) and it checks out perfectly through that insane interlude. They just mess you around completely with displacements, syncopation and triplets and whatnot. They so silly. 😁

That video was shot at someone’s place, using (IKEA?) curtains and couch to make it look like a hotel room. They didn’t want to go through setting up the whole studio for filming, they said. It was too much work. And again, the video was filmed post-recording. They’re goofing around there, as they do also in the three other Songs for Lovers tunes. The pig jewelers reference here, I’m not sure about, but you’ll find out more about pigs in the other three tunes ☺️ Aron is driving this number like a racing car 🔥 Henrik’s fingers are on fire 🔥 (whether Aron has written his bass lines here, I’m not sure but wouldn’t be surprised…) And watch it again (I bet you have already) to see how Jonah has perched his keyboard on some🪘also how he hits ‘the wrong note’ after that weird middle section 🤣 Some say, the Loops left it in to show that he’s still a human 😉 And Aron is keeping the beat, tapping on his leg, going all the way through… Still, I’m sure they were having click tracks going on during recording. I think they filmed it in their rehearsal space. I have a faint memory of Aron and Henrik doing an insta live after they'd released the four songs and saying something about what a hassle it had been to restore the rehearsal space afterwards. :)

Thanks for turning me on to Plini. I noticed that Plini teamed up with Cory Wong on the tune I heard called Sunset. You need to listen to Dirty Loops teamed up with Corey Wong and some members of his band. There are about 5 or 6 tunes they collaborated on including an incredible cover of Thriller and original tunes as well. Do check them out. I also see where Tim Henson also sat in on the Plini tune called Sunset. Tom is with Polyphia. Absolutely worth a listen.

In one of their interviews, Henrik said that someone gave him that piggy once (found on a flea market or such) and he thought it was fun to have it sitting somewhere nearby. His good luck charm 😉

He looked a bit like a five year old on Christmas when talking about it. 🤣 He seems to have a thing for pigs, as when Aron went over to Wincent drumsticks, Henrik made the butt design for them, and it is - of course - a pig. 🐷
After old armando I'm curious about what else they could di in the bluegrass genre. After all the pop/jazz/funk/rock etc I see a field there to be ploughed by them.

Btw, set a metronome to their main beat and see how it continues in the same way all the way through, even when they screw off your head and send you into free fall during that middle section… 👍
