My dad had a 2005 from the day he got it til 2016 it lasted him 11 years! They don’t make it like they used too anymore. When I was younger I couldn’t wait to have this car but by the time I had my license the engine did end up having it’s final run and it shot and instead of fixing it my parents just gave it to the junkyard.
That's the issue with Hyundai and Kia, they can't figure out how to make an engine that doesn't burn oil after so long. The best thing you can do for one of those is buy it new or with very low miles and change the oil religiously every 4000 miles or sooner. I know a guy with a 2019 Sonata 2.4 that's burning half a quart between oil changes, at 4500 mile intervals. It has just over 18000 miles on it. I know because I changed the oil the last 2 times on it. And that oil gets really black after that short a time too.
I have a 2006 elantra with just over 30.000 miles on it it was my mom's car it is the car that a little old lady drove to church on Sundays it is definitely a great little car
You should plan to buy a 2010 Hyundai Sonata GLS mid-size sedan with the 2.4 L four-cylinder engine and the five-speed automatic transmission instead, because they are excellent and they are much larger and safer. Do a POV test drive on that vehicle. Thanks.

These are great cars; had one for 11 years and beat the snot out of it. Very reliable.
I recently purchased 2005 Elantra GLS 2004 . It’s runs smooth . It’s runs only 24000km
I bought a new one on 05. Best car I ever owned

Sounds like buddy has a lemon maybe he should’ve taken it back to Hyundai a long time ago
