I see all kinds of trailers with "Backup/Furrion prep" -- have wondered how the install would go. Thanks for doing this for me/us, JD. Think a camera that was always "ON" would be terrific to ck on traffic, etc.

Yes I’d like to see the reception when traveling. My first camera worked great until I started moving. I installed the Haloview with four cameras on my Fifth Wheel. My RV wasn’t setup for a Furion, so it was a LOT of work. Good to see it was so simple. Thanks for the excellent review/video.

Thanks for this one, JD. Our 2018 Legacy Montana 5th wheel came with this same camera installed in the rear, but I have never taken the time to 'pair' and use it. I still have the box it came in behind the rear seat in my truck. I hope pairing will be simple enough from the cab of my truck once I try it out. It seems like another nice to have goodie, but I am accustomed to just backing my 5th wheel into place without it. Another good video.

I purchased the complete observation system last January at the Tampa Super Show. Love it. The side marker cameras are really nice in multiple lane, heavy traffic. Field of view is mind-boggling. Having sound on the rear and entry cameras is nice
    too.

I have the 4.3’” version on my TT. Can’t live without it. I don’t use the suction cup mount as I don’t like things blocking my view out the window so I bought a mount that clips into the CD slot and works perfect. Never use CD’s anymore anyways. It’s not only great for backing up but for changing lanes you can angle to see all traffic behind you.

Just ordered one, should be here Sunday. Looks like an easy install. Just checked and both side camera lights already have the connection for the camera so all I will have to do is remove the lens and two screws then plug-in the side camera, reinstall the screws and lens and done! Thanks Keystone!

My Cougar TT came prewired for the Furrion camera. It's good to see what goes there. I kept telling my wife that you said we shouldn't be towing our trailer with a 1/2 ton. (It did fine with the WD hitch properly adjusted) Well she must have gotten tired of listening to you and me. I now tow my TT with a new F250. Thanks JD

This is great. My Keystone Cougar has the camera prep and I may get this. My F350 has the ultimate trailer tow camera system but I don't want to get that cumbersome setup with the cable that has to run the full length of the trailer. Too bad the truck manufacturers and the RV manufactuers couldn't get together to make a wireless system that integrated into OEM screens that most new trucks have now.

I’m installing the Vision S (4-camera system) on my Jayco Seismic 4113 today. Got the side cameras on, and boy do I wish I would have had time to get it installed before I headed out on the maiden voyage!!! I got into a couple tight situations where I had to get in and out of the truck a few times to make sure I wouldn’t hit anything on the blind side of the turn with the rear end because of the huge tail swing! Can’t wait to get the rear camera installed next! I’m going to try to mount the 4th camera in the garage instead of as a door cam, so I can keep an eye on the toys/cargo in the garage.

Love our Furrion backup camera! The only issue we’ve had with it was that it never stayed on. (It was installed at the RV shop before we took it home, so didn’t do it ourselves) When we bought our Keystone Cougar 26RBS, we had them transfer it over and they told us we were missing our camera’s antenna! The RV place we bought our old camper from DID NOT put the antenna on the camera and never told us about it! *smh* 🤦🏼‍♀️ (they actually left it in the box!!). When we got home with the Cougar, I climbed up the ladder and added the antenna and it worked beautifully last weekend!

  • @fxdrider01

Your trailer actually came 'pre-wired' with Furrion's power connector. My brand-new, 'pre-wired for backup monitor' Coleman Lantern 263BH came with the Furrion bracket installed, the hole drilled, and a pair of wires (1 green, 1 black) sticking through the hole. Not what I'd consider a true 'pre-wired' condition. Luckily the camera kit comes with the female side of the power connector, so I guess I'm splicing. Good thing I know how to do that. A lot of RV-ers would be stuck waiting in line for a dealership service visit. Thanks for video.

My TT is 3 years old at this point, but I had them install one when I bought it. At first, I was thinking just a reverse camera, but the tech was quick to correct me. It's an observation camera. I've towed trailers for years, since I was a kid, but I wouldn't have a camper without one these days. It's so easy to completely switch and use it as the rearview mirror when towing. Way more situational awareness of what's behind you or passing you with one of these. Mine is wired to the marker lights, so as long as I turn on my headlights when towing, which I always do, I've got visibility. This camera setup is way nicer and clearer than mine, though.

  • @acdii
    @acdii 3 года назад

Very expensive though. Been wanting to see what is inside that mount before working on mine, glad to see one finally posted. I have a Rand McNally backup wireless camera that I originally bought for the nav unit, but found the nav unit to be of such poor design that I didn't use it. I paid $25 for the camera, and found it works with an iPhone too so mounted it behind the cab of the truck facing the 5th wheel, found it works pretty good so bought a second one for the trailer. Just working out how best to mount the TX for it since it isn't water proof. It certainly will not be as easy as this, but it will work with an iPhone, Android, iPad etc using basic WEP wireless. It also will reach 60' or better.

  • @JasonS_IN317

We have the 7" monitor and camera on our Laredo 330RL and I can't imagine going back to the time when I didn't have it. Note for people without larger tow mirrors...you don't need them with this camera. You also don't need extensions. By the time you see it coming around your rear on the screen, it's in your mirror. Most new trailers come pre-wired and it's a simple installation. Our trailer was wired for constant 12v so you don't have to have your parking lights on.

I got an earlier model back in 2015. It works well. I felt it was pricey for what it was. I figured I paid for the convenience of the ultra easy install (mine was also prepped). It works ok. Never lost the signal. Mine came paired out of the box.
It looks like the new ones have a better picture and refresh rate. Mine came with a suction cup window mount which was crappy. I ended up getting a RAM x grip which is 100 times better. Overall I would get it again, no question.

You didn't show us options for mounting the 7" screen in your truck. That is a major dilemma when installing aftermarket backup cameras in vehicles without drilling ugly holes in your dash. Smaller screens can mount to the windshield using suction cups, but I don't think that is a good long term solution. I only pull a utility trailer but a b/u camera would be so convenient when hitching. By the way, my wife and I love your channel, even though we haven't been camping in over 10 years!

With the amount of electrical/electronic equipment that are add-ons or optional on vehicles, soon batteries are going to need a boost. As well as universal shielding for wiring due to cross interference from all that stuff, such as the buzz on the camera when showing the Furion system.

  • @dixonhoward5316
    @dixonhoward5316 3 года назад

I purchased the 7-inch version of the Furrion S system and wired it to the marker lights of my 25-foot travel trailer. The camera and monitor pair/connect the second I turn on the lights on my truck. I never loose the signal/picture transmitted by the wireless camera while traveling down the road regardless of the speed. While connectivity is great the picture is terrible, it is to dark regardless of how I set the brightness and contrast. This is not limited to the camera that came with my 7 inch system as I replaced that camera with the camera that came with my Furrion 4.3 inch system and got the same result. I spent a lot of money for a system that produces a picture that is barely usable. If it is an overcast day the picture is dark, if the sun is at your back it washes out the picture, and if you are using it at night the lights from the cars behind you wash out and blur the picture. The camera works ok as an aid to help you park but if you are looking for an observation system to monitor the traffic behind you this system is not for you. The pictures Furrion uses in their advertising is misleading. I have never got a picture that good even in optimum conditions with two different cameras. I suspect this in because the camera Furrion uses in their system is a CMOS camera with a plastic lens. I have spent over $1,300 between the 7 and 4.3-inch Furrion S systems that work ok as a parking assistant, but nothing beyond that. I am now searching for a quality wired system with a good CCD glass lens camera to serve as an observation system as I drive.

Takes a bit longer to install but for half the price of the Furrion you can get a Haloview MC7108. You will also need the adapter bracket which is another $10 but it was not hard to install and works great on my 24' Mini Lite. I also have the dash bracket installed on my F-150 like he does and can just attach the monitor to it with a spring clamp which makes it easy to remove when not in use.

The new one they sent me had a green line down the screen. Once again, I use the warranty and they send me out another unit. For how fustrating it is to have to go through this process, the camera is irreplaceable.

When are the big three going to incorporate these into the infotainment centers when you opt for the towing package? How many screens and wires do you want on the dash? After all Bluetooth is Bluetooth regardless of what you're trying to connect to what. My iPad doesn't care who's headset I'm trying to pare it with. Most any vehicle will pair to just about any phone so why not a third party camera system? Same holds true for a TPMS.

GM has a wired system for an observation camera at the rear of any type of trailer. They say with today's technology, there are still issues for some systems with wireless systems so that's why they chose to go with tge wired system. They also allow for a inside the trailer camera for those needing to keep an eye on livestock or toys inside a toy hauler. Both cameras plug into the receptacle on the back bumper above the 7 pin plug. So you do have the option with GM but not wireless yet. 😒 Ford may have a similar wired system.

Before making the investment, make sure the pre-wired female connector is there behind the mounting bracket. My 2020 surveyor Legend had the the wire but no connector. Only about 3” of wire came out. Not much room to splice in the connector. Very disappointed in Forest River.

Very nice - how would you compare the image quality from the camera and the display to the Haloview? Can you see the Furrion display panel with your polarized sunglasses on?

Honestly, the system is superior to the Haloview in about every way other than price. I like the low profile nature of the screen which is easier to position and see over and around vs the Haloview. I also like that the range is superior to that of the Haloview with no need for a booster. The truck screen is also very nice and easy to use. Finally, I can't forgot how much easier the install is if you have the mount already.

If you’re a complete noob like I am who bought their first trailer and then bought the furrion just for easy install then don’t forget that these are powered by running lights! (Or maybe different for other trailers)
I installed it and thought some fuse or something needed upgrading because it wouldn’t turn on. Disappointed but then dealer told me it’s powered by running lights. Sigh. I don’t think instructions to install even say anything about running lights needing to be on

Update. Just a heads up if you run a new 2022 or 2023 GMC or Chevy it won’t work properly. The new electrical system won’t give the camera/amplifier enough power and it will cut in and out on the monitor. However Fusion has a fix, a $60 adaptor that works. I think new fords have the same issue from what I’ve read. But check out for yourself. My 2023 Chevy Silverado needed the adaptor. Saved me from buying a new system.

JD when I purchased my new 2020 F-450 platinum in March, it came in the package I ordered the Ford ultimate backup towing package ( arrived in late, August):- camera, TPMS valve stems and wiring harness. But the Ford dealer will not install, but of course Rick’s RV shop just down the street from the Ford dealer, does it for $1,600 - $2,400 one to two day job. The question is can the backup be made to stay on all the time, and not just when in reverse?
Or better to sell the Ford kit and just buy a Furrion? Seems the Furrion I could install, the Ford one with all new wiring, seems to make it beyond my pay grade, as they say. Suggestions would greatly be appreciated.
On the same vain, since the Ford Ultimate package, comes with the TPMS system (Nitrogen), and since natural air is 78% nitrogen, what are the true benefits of nitrogen filled tires especially with only 22% needed to make 100%,) but doubt anything is 100% - some other additives gets in....then does you Viair pump air or have made it able to pump 100% nitrogen (both coach & truck? Thanks for any replies, or suggestions. 🤔

I opted against the Ford kit because it was way too troublesome to install and maintain. First, youll need an extension cable to allow it to reach. Second, the kit adds an additional wiring bundle running from the truck bed back to the trailer (presumably over the roof of the RV). Finally, it can be permanently mounted but isn't designed for it and would leave exposed cables draped over and down the top, front or underbelly of your RV. Wasn't ideal.

Why do the RV manufacturers not 'prewire' a dedicated 12-volt feed for the camera instead of using the marker light power? I would think it would be easy when they're building the RV.

Hmm! Simple can be good!! Like you, I tend to cringe at "simple" jobs...because they often aren't. Will be interesting to see if what sounded like RFI picked up by your camera audio will also find its way into your AM/FM radio or even cell phones. The noise seemed to follow, and is possibly rooted in, what the display was doing/showing. Didn't sound like the RF link between the camera and display was the culprit. Best wishes!

This may sound petty, but you would think a luxury brand VanLeigh would come with this already installed. Not that it’s hard to do. Imo it’s a lot like a Cadillac not coming with a backup camera.
