This was their first ever MV and it saved the band - their label was about to ditch them. Luckily the band chose this song for their debut MV (it was actually a b-side on their first single) and it went viral worldwide (2 million hits in two weeks if I recall correctly)?
I love early Band-Maid - MISA and Saiki in maid outfits, MISA wearing shoes and playing a Fender 4-string, Saiki using a mic stand, Akane wearing her famous tiny hat (RIP Tiny Hat-San) and Miku could not play guitar yet and is 'wearing' her old Rickenbacker. Kanami playing her old Addictone before she switched to PRS. They have come a long way and it has been an absolute pleasure to witness!

"Thrill" started it. The rest is history. Image browsing through RUclips nearly 10 years ago and this video popped up. You saw these cute girls in maid costumes, thinking oh, just another Japanese pop group. Then oh well, let's see what it's about. Then this song happened. You're going "What the hell?!!!!!" Can you realize how many reactions sounded like that.

very close to my experience - but mine started in the summer of '16 when a youtube suggestion popped up the thumbnail for 'real existence' - their 2nd mv. like you say i looked at it and said 'oh a squeaky voiced idol group dressed like cute maids'. probably bogus , eh? but my curiosity got the best of me so i clicked and was instantly blown away. i'm 70 years old and have seen it all but i was hooked. now the MAIDS and LOVEBITES are my 2 favorite bands.

As a few others have stated, this video went viral and actually saved the band from being dropped by their agency. Although they weren't allowed to play their own compositions, they still sounded great and managed to make these songs a unique flavor that is Band-Maid. 'Alone' is the first song that was all original Band-Maid written, composed, and of course performed....Miku(Rhythm Guitar, Backing Vocals) didn't know how to play the guitar when this video was recorded, she used it as a prop. Miku is the founder of Band-Maid, having started the band while working in a Maid Cafe. She has learned how to play the guitar from her teacher and the lead guitarist Kanami Tono(A world class guitarist in her own rights). Great that you have found this hidden gem of talent, and glad you're enjoying it!

Like many others, Thrill was my first exposure to Band-Maid. That led to Onset, Domination, Dice, Bubble, Non Fiction Days, Puzzle, so many others. And I was HOOKED. Their catalog is so extensive, so varied, 3 years now and I still can't get enough. And it's not just the music, their personalities are so magnetic, I just love them to death!! They brought back my love of music that I thought was gone.

Saiki sings, “I turn my earphones up. Nothing can beat the ecstasy of living with this Thrill.” And Miku sings, “A pigeon traces an arc in the shrunken sky.” No matter what song you're listening to, with Band-Maid the surprises and thrills ain't never gone. 🤘😉 Thx, Owner of Agnes!

Miku: "A pigeon traces an arc in the shrunken sky" sounds better than "a middle-aged man...". 😜

I would agree, MISA (the barefoot bass assassin) is a top tier bassist, I would put her in my top 5 world wide, but then all these ladies are top tier, not being label built its amazing how they managed to find each other. The rock gods were surely smiling down on them and all of us

Enough has been said about this M/V - I'd recommend comparing it to the live version for around three or four(?) years back, to see how far they'd come between them.

This is the mv that helped BandMaid blow up and gain popularity and the early ones you get to see Saiki's legs in her old maid outfit. Just an observation.

There are some interesting facts about this MV for Band-Maid in that it had made waves in the U.S., Mexico, and Europe first off of a Facebook post and then that buzz came back to a larger Japanese audience months later. They had domestic Japanese fans but didn't garner greater interest until the buzz came from overseas fans. Their first concert outside of Japan and American debut was at Sakura-Con at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle, WA back in March 2016. It was at the time their largest audience ever at 2500-3000 in attendance. They remarked how surpised they were at how large the audience was as they stepped onto the stage and they knew their songs. Their previous one man (solo) shows in Japan were at small clubs and venues that had capacities of less than 700 or even far far less. Even to this day it is still their largest American audience that isn't at a music festival. Despite their popularity growing exponentially and two very successful U.S. tours in the last 2 years.
You can watch their official MV for the song 'Before Yesterday' that includes clips of that concert and them walking around downtown Seattle. There is also a few fancam vids out there of the concert. Someone recently even posted the nearly 1 hr concert.
