    I laughed so much when you referenced The Pale Blue Dot! I knew exactly that it was that show - I loved it too! Contact, the movie, is one of my favorites, I watch it over and over, and about 10 years ago or maybe more I picked up Contact the novel and read it and remember loving it too - maybe it is time to re-read it! Nice titles! I need to get a Ray Bradbury read!💕

      Hi Heather!
      I am so surprised to hear you know about The Pale Blue Dot! Sagan is THE voice of my Saturday morning memories. I loved listening to him.
      I haven't seen Contact in 30 (?) years, but I remember thinking it was good. I don't watch movies anymore - at least not but every few years. Usually for a special occasion. I found Sagan's writing as enjoyable as his narration.
      Bradbury makes me happy. Plain and simple. 🤗

    I've only read Hannah Coulter by Berry, but I'm currently reading a collection of his short stories. I wish that the random profanity wasn't there, but I have enjoyed the stories. That is good to know about his essays and poetry, because I have been meaning to try out some of them.
    Excellent video! I so enjoy your reviews. 😊

      Hannah is probably the tamest out of all of the books in terms of situations. Probably because it is about Hannah. The others are about men in Port William. His poetry is really good. I hope you enjoy it, Hannah! 🤗

    I agree that Wendell Berry's poetry is better than his prose. My favorite reads were The Two Towers and The Night Swim. I should pick up Dandelion Wine (and more Ray Bradbury) one of these days! Probably Wives and Daughters too... Thank you for another lovely video.

      The Two Towers ❤ I just reread it in February and loved it just as much as ever.
      I have a Bradbury I haven't read yet that is part of the Green Town Trilogy, so I really need to pick it up!
      Thanks for being here and commenting, Liv.

    Hi Deea! Drift has an intriguing cover! Will have to check it out. I’ve never read Wives and Daughters but read North And South last Victober and loved it so much! Regarding The Fox Wife, I am definitely Team READ IT/LOVED IT! I’m fascinated that you felt it fizzled near the end but respect your viewpoint. I personally loved the ending and I think it’s because I was most interested in Snow’s relationship with one of the characters. I can definitely see how if that wasn’t the main thread of the story one is interested in that the ending might not be as satisfying. For anyone considering reading it, the Audible narration is beautiful. Always love seeing your devotion to Dandelion Wine- a perennial summer favorite! Have a great week! ☺️

    I like that thought on child-like stories with Bradbury 🤩

    • @novelideea
      @novelideea  4 месяца назад +1

      Bradbury's expression of imagination and the thoughts that crowd the heads of children are so accurate! And then he writes them in such a beautiful way. His short stories are a completely different feel - they are more 'ideas-based'. Still fab & wholesome, but experimental.
      I will look into Night Tiger now that I know I enjoyed Fox Wife (even if. the end was a pancake.)

    • @curioushmm9027

      One of my favorite May reads was “crossing open ground” barry Lopez. And another was the novel “still born” by Guadalupe Nettel. You were far more generous in your score on the fox book than I would have been. I get so angry when an author doesn’t end land the ending.

    • @novelideea
      @novelideea  4 месяца назад

      @@curioushmm9027 the rest of the story was so good! And I don’t think the end was bad, just flat. It wasn’t written with the joy of expectations being met or the sense of fulfillment. It felt like it was just facts being listed.

    I've been on the fence about Contact, with not really knowing what to expect from it, but it sounds like one I need to read. I'm glad you're enjoying Well of Ascension! I would love to be joining in with Mistalong, but Words of Radiance is taking up enough of my time right now. It's my first time reading it and there's so much to take in.

      I have thought about Contact several times since finishing. I (obviously) don’t agree with many of the choices but the conversation was noncombative and honest. And the twist and revelation at the end that gave further reason to pause was fantastic! So surpring.
      Not a perfect book but, wow.
      Well of Ascension is at a not-so-fun part,but I am reading more tonight so hopefully I’ll get through that part!

    Oh no! Wendell Berry has just been put on my radar by several BookTubers, and I was so looking forward to reading his books. I also don't like swearing or "adult" content. 😢

    • @novelideea
      @novelideea  4 месяца назад +1

      So let me do a bit better about my aversion to his novels. They are grief driven. Every one of them that I have read so far has been a character or characters dealing with grief of some sort. Then there is an event or something that occurs that turns my stomach sour - Not necessarily adult content - Bullying, racism, exhibition, suicide, gore, animal cruelty. The profanity is not profuse, but it comes out at the oddest times and from the mouths of characters I just wouldn't expect.
      The way both are handled just aren't my cup of tea.
      As Penny said in her comment, Read one and decide for yourself.

I recently read The Fox Wife as well. I agree with you on your assessment of it. The ending was a bit flat for me too. I rated it four stars as well, but had the ending been a bit different it could've been a 5 stars. My favorite read for May was a memoir called While You Were Out.
