@@jamescampbell2353 Im a bit confused what youre saying here since buddhism permeates Japanese culture. The term Oni has been used to refer to the demons in buddhist hells as well humans who commit evil enough deeds to transform on earth. none of them are particularly “giant” but many westerners translate them as ogre instead of demons since they tend to be big and buff so D&D puts them in the same category as ogres
So the word “oni” is Japanese in origin, and the usage of “oni” in Kimetsu no Yaiba is the traditional usage - in modern times you would be more likely to use “yokai” to mean the same thing due to changes in use of language over time. Specifically, in Kimetsu’s usage of the word, an “oni” is a monster defined by their ‘inhuman desires’; the whole eating people thing is an obvious example, but it would also include wrath, jealousy, revenge, etc. The kinds of destructive emotions and sentiments that a close-knit community-oriented society would consider a big no-no.
Not just that, even if oni were fire imune on dnd Rengoku would still deal his full damage, mainly for the fact that the breathings are fancy, superhuman swordplay with vfx instead of actual elemental magic
one thing i would say is I think zealot barbarian should be in this build PURELY because rengoku didnt die until after the fight had ended despite having a hole in his freaking chest. He only died when rage ended
The problem with that however is the fact that you would lose most of the "fire power" from this build because of a 14 level dip into Barbarian. Leaving you with just the d4 from Chromatic Dragon and "maybe" the Wild Fire Spirit. It's a huge sacrifice for a subclass that outside of a single ability at the end doesn't really fit Rengoku.
@@MFAniki6390 flavor is free! Flavor the radiant damage as the fire around rengoku’s sword. Say it’s his fiery spirit. He doesn’t actually have flames around his sword in the show anyway. It’s just a visual metaphor.
I like to think of the Demon/Vampire situation of Demon Slayer vs D&D like the Demon/Devil situation in D&D vs Magic the Gathering. The terminology and thematic elements used for one don’t translate directly to the other and are sometimes inverted, and that’s fine.
Its an issue i run into a lot when running games with vaguely Eastern Asian elements. There are a lot of spiritualities with a lot of powerful beings, and the easiest method is to make all the good ones Celestials, and the bad ones Fiends. But, in reality, theres a LOT that dont fit those two groups. Example being, when i include the kami, i tend to make them Fey creatures. Because "Fey," isnt strictly limited to British/Celtic folklore of fairies. Just like Fiends arent strictly Judeo-Christian demons. But people get weird about it because "but the kami are Gods. Thats what kami means." Even though, no, thats not what that word means. People get so stuck on the bad translations of other cultures terminology, and matching that terminology to D&D terminology, even when the mechanics dont match up. Like, i realize D&D is deeply centered around European folklores, especially Western Europe and Britain. But if we're gonna bring other cultures things into it, it behooves us to try and look at it from a mechanics-first standpoint to see where they fall. Not just apply the logic of European folklore to a folklore that doesnt follow that logic to begin with.

I love how a lot more Druid subclasses are letting you spend your Wild Shapes on things that aren't shapeshifting. For example, the new season of _Primal_ got me thinking how a Spear & Fang build would work - that new Giant Options Primeval Druid letting you use your Wild Shape to summon a prehistoric beast would work perfect. 14 Levels of that to make Fang huge plus 6 Levels of Totem Barbarian for Rages and that Wolf Totem at Level 3, you've got a solid Spear & Fang Build.
Tulok: they’re called demons so they’re demons even though they feed on humans and die in sunlight Also Tulok: Doctor strange is a wizard and clearly not a sorcerer
It's a bit of a gut punch that Rengoku dumps Charisma, but it makes sense that he's bad at deception. After all, he really wears his heart on his sleeve.
Given that he hunts fiends, with resistance to fire, I probably would have made the capstone Elemental Adept (fire) instead of capping off wisdom. But still, seems like a fun build to play
@@biodude15 Interesting note on this one, while a lot of fiends are immune to fire, they are mostly devils. Most demons, excluding balors, are only resistant to fire.

Technically if you want to get super petty/specific I think that in Japanese it's oni slayers which I don't think have any known intrinsic fire resistance
To be fair, if you want to get super petty/specific the breathing effects aren't actually there (author confirmed it) and are just representations of their swordsmanship (sans moon breathing), so Rengoku would just be a battlemaster fighter/kensei monk build with *maybe* some barbarian levels

Only concern I would have with this build would be that fire is the most commonly resisted element in the game. So for all of the options to deal fire damage, I'd be worried that a lot of the attacks wouldn't do as much damage as I'd like unless there was a way to bypass all of that resistance. Otherwise, this is an excellent build. I'd like to see something very similar with cold damage. I mean, you kinda did with your Weiss build a while back, but it's still cool to think about. Keep it up Tulok!
You should absolutely do Akaza from demon slayer. I feel like while his air type might make him a Sun soul monk. He definitely strikes me more as an open hand and unarmed fighter type of character
I'd love to see a build for Arthur Boyle from Fire Force. At first glance he's also a fire swordsman, but the flavor is drastically different so he could absolutely be a Paladin or Warlock. Black ☆ Star would also be interesting to see. He's an assassin but he definitely doesn't fight like one so I'd love to see how you'd build him.
I’d substituted some Fighter levels and some Ranger levels and the entire some druid levels for 8 Cleric. Forge Clerics can put without using any resources a free 1d8 fire damage. 2 levels from Cleric, two from Two from Fighter, Four from Ranger. Keeping most of the Fun parts while adding a free 1d8 fire to all melee weapon attacks you make
And Dr. Strange is called the sorcerer supreme, but we all know that the definition they use doesn't translate to D&D. Even Gaijin Goombah admitted that the Demon Slayer demons have more in common with vampires than Japanese Oni (but do have the emotional writing impact of a version of Oni that used to be human that is core to both the kabuki plays on those types of Oni and to Demon Slayer). But honestly that is more an excuse to make a pc Demon Slayer demon a dhampir since it fits them better than tiefling and fits the flavor better than just going custom lineage in my opinion (especially given that the dhampir in Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft is modular in its flavor, enough so that even making the monster stat blocks for them as fiends still fits the pc lineage for them as dhampir). It doesn't really matter what favored enemy you give Rengoku (if the Demon Slayer Corps existed in D&D they wouldn't likely ignore the undead or any other types of monsters that prey on humans). As others pointed out the "Demon" in Demon Slayer translates to Oni which D&D has as giants, so you could even give Rengoku giants as a favored enemy :P.

I really disagree with the dump of charisma. Rengoku's entire thing is that he inspired literally everyone. So while you may miss out on the tracking skills and such, I think paladin would make more sense for Rengoku. He is the paladin of paladins, which is why I'd go devotion paladin because Rengoku is devoted to saving people(also flame strike). Aura of protection would help boost your fairly low saving throws and smite does radiant damage which is pretty much anti demon fire. Still a great video for one of the greatest characters in anime. I'm guessing Tengen will be a bard.
In my own interpretation, I would swap over to Fey Wanderer rather than being a Monster Slayer. You get a feat that gives you a free Charisma skill and the ability to add your Wisdom mod to Charisma checks. Sorta making up for dumped Charisma.. Fey Reinforcements would be pretty rad alongside the Fire Spirit as well.
I'd probably pick up protection from evil and good from eldritch knight instead of mage armour at home, just based on how much variety and utility there is on the druid list that I'd miss out on if I was playing this completely in character.
My guess is a bit of the new giant barbarian for fire sword. Probably the chromatic dragon fear too. Outside of that, I don't know, probably kensei. Demon Hunter is kensei monk: the show

Also they look human enough, that goofy ass hair has to be some divine trait. Zealot Barbarian 1-15 levels. Rage acts as a nonmagical concentration breathing, the radiant strikes can act as his breathing techniques, rage beyond death is one of the only abilities that allow you to keep fighting with a hole in your chest, war cry acts to inspire your allies around you which he does for tanjiro and inosuke, and most importantly barbarian is something that comes to people naturally so you can preserve his narrative about being born stronger than others as his motivation to protect the weak. For the last five levels I would say you can finish barbarian for more of the physical superiority, go into battle master and use that for further flavor of techniques and get action surge, or go rogue to display his abilities to track demons with expertise as well as a mobility increase.
Pre-vid prediction: variant human, Elemental Adept feat, points in DEX and WIS; 11 levels of Kensei Monk, and 9 levels of Arcana Cleric (probably mixed in early on) to get Green Flame Blade as a WIS spell, and eventually get Hold Monster as a 5th level spell. Four ABIs mean capped WIS and DEX, provided point-buy stats.
Tbh, i think Tulok is right, the biggest inspiration the show have to this creatures are Japanese folklore, where demons represent the evil nature of mankind unhinged and made flesh on these evil sirits, so they ARE demons, but resemble vampires because japanese ones share similarities. This message is sponsored by the A.K.C.H.U.A.L.L.Y organization for a more informed and annoyed society. Kyojuro Rengoku is the eccentric heroic and cheerful figure that inspire confidence by its way to act as well as with it's skill to face the dangers of their world while keeping a humility that give you empathy (just like Tangle the lemur! Once again i ask Sir Tulok for a build for her because this kind of characters are awesome, hope one day to see that) With a bastion as morals that would make any mother proud, Rengoku give us hope for the future generations to become even greater protectors of what is right.

The only breathing styles that actualy make what its named after is wind breathing and sound breathing because the author said so.
This build is.......TASTY!!!!
1:30 in-- oh boy, I am already so wrong!
Post-vid: oh MAN was I wrong. But the best kind of wrong-- an interesting wrong! This build was so much cooler than I ever could have predicted!
you should try making any of the jujustu kaisen
Tbh, i think Tulok is right, the biggest inspiration the show have to this creatures are Japanese folklore, where demons represent the evil nature of mankind unhinged and made flesh on these evil sirits, so they ARE demons, but resemble vampires because japanese ones share similarities.

There is footage here I do not remember seeing. Please explain what it is from so I can go watch it right now
I'm not sure how fire is gonna be useful against fiends, but ok
I don't own fizbans on dndbeyond, Soni got the fighting initiate feat, and picked blind fighting.
No one ever sneaks up on a demon slayer, especially not a hashira
Bruh, this is that good good.
2 months since a dc build? Can we get blue beetle next
Sesshomaru? Towa, Setsuna and Moroha when?
Pretty hot build ;)
If I join your Patreon, can I nominate characters for the poll?
I thought Rengoku's race was Donut?
We gotta get some Samurai Fighter levels on this one right?
Wait, hunters mark and searing smite are both concentration. They don't go together.
I'm just trying to picture the nonsense for a Gyutaro and Daki Build.
My Thinking is that you go with Rogue 3(Assassin)/Warlock X for Gyutaro and Bard 3/Warlock X For Daki.
They both share their Infernal Patron, but while Gyutaro has a Blade Pact, Daki has a Chain Pact (Her Familiar is...Gyutaro)
Look there's nothing saying your Chain Pact can't be a Second Warlock, now, is there?
I think rengoku should have been pyromancer sorcerer instead of wildfire druid, if only to ignore the resistance to fire.
Day 2 of asking Tulok to do a James Bond build
I’d say they’re undead, they can’t be in sunlight and have an afterlife to go to post slaying
SET YOUR HEART AGLAZE
The best hashira
