If you ever tried Korean tried seaweed, I can say Gamtae is the upgraded one with better flavor and richness. It is also better for your body health. Best to have it with well cooked rice and bit of soy sauce. The chef on the 10:30 is the owner of the restaurant called 'Mingles' and I really recommend to visit this place if you have a plan to visit Seoul. This place is also recommended as one of the best restaurant in Asia. I had something of mix between miso and cream cheese on this restaurant. I thought it was very weird combination as other Koreans would also think but it was absolutely stunning.
Wow as a Korean foodie, I love badasoop and their gamtae. I never thought that I would see an in-depth video about this specific Korean ingredient and brand on this channel. I just realized I can respect the expertise and depth of knowledge of this channel! Great work!
I got the privilege to try this from a different restaurant in Korea. It was like a 5 course meal and they've had Gamtae and rice like how we wrap Gim (seaweed) in rice. The way I describe the experience was like it was the first time I've had a bite that was perfectly balanced in taste that was harmonous to each other. It wasn't like 50% salty and 50% sweet. It was like they were one with each other like how Christians describe the Trinity. I forgot where I went to experience this but if you ever have the chance to in Korea, go try this out. The texture and taste of it is worth it from a chef that knows how to properly utilize it. You can also imagine like the seasalt Sanji from One Piece anime experienced in Waterworks arc from the old man that makes stirfry. A sea salt comparable to "All Blues". The Gamtae is truly an amazing thing.
This strand of seaweed looks so delicate and vibrantly green. To be enjoyed seasoned fresh or in dried form I could already imagine the bite texture and taste must be amazing.
I am Korean so I used to eat these since I was young, but now I am surprised to see these in Safeway and trader joes. Costco had it for last 10 years or so I always have crap load of them at home, eat with rice, eat as snack. good stuff.
This makes me feel some sort of way. They just out there pulling satisfying seaweed, and dad is saying daughter is CEO of this very amazing business. Can I please come harvest seaweed? I will be the best goddamn seaweed harvester that ever lived. I'm pretty sure I was born for it.
It is commonly eaten in Japan, but in recent years about half of the population does not eat it on a daily basis. Especially onigiri (rice balls) are sticky, so eating them wrapped in nori (seaweed) keeps your hands clean. It can be made into tsukudani (food boiled in soy sauce) or added to miso soup. For some reason, a slice is sometimes found in ramen noodles. Korean seaweed is also sold in Japan, but 100% of it is eaten as finger food with alcohol. It is not used in other dishes.
This was terrific to watch and I really appreciate the man who founded gemtae processing/commercialization. Such respect and commitment to a natural delicious product.
'Now because we have the best Gamtae available, we have the best Gamtae in the world...now see these boots I'm wearing?, this is why we have the best Gamtae in the world'.
Iam a Indian but my 2 best friends are Korean and Chinese and I got used to eat their foods and my lifestyle is mixed with Indian,Chinese & Korean. Both are so good and honest and caring religious people, in fact I see people fighting in the border to kill each other, I don’t know 🤷♂️ how. True love keeps people united always no matter from which part of world you are.
All seaweed is edible. So everytime i go to the ocean i legit just take all the seaweed i can find, dry them and turn them into snacks HAHHAHAHA ive been doing this for years. I've not encountered this kind of seaweed before tho
Fun fact: Seaweed is called Kim (Gim) because the first harvester who created this technique was named Kim/Gim. Many think seaweed is a Japanese product along with myung-ran. They were exported and just became more popular in Japan, thus they market it as Japanese but in fact, they originate from Korea.
I'm not sure if Koreans made it and I'm Korean. I think we as eastern asian have been making this for a very very long time. Way before we can even remember. The creation of this was probably even before "countries" even existed.
Historically Korean seaweed (김 Kim) has beend made since the 5 century but japanese Nori(海苔) since the 8 century. Japanese Nori just has been an imitation of Korean since the Nara period. as you can see, seaweed culture originates from Korea and uniquie Korean food.
There is bunch of different kinds of eatable seaweed, all those seaweeds have different name, and that Gamtae is one of rare to get and eat. But it has definitely nice flavor.
I love love loveeee korean seaweeds. I always ate it with rice or just as a snack. I could finish 10 packets in 2 sitting (lunch and afternoon snack). I wanna try this one, I wonder where I could buy one (we don't have korean stores near my house)
Heard about gamtae 2 years ago on a food show. Asked my mom and she just said it's healthy. I kept asking about flavor and she just kept sayings it's good for you. It's healthy. >.> still never tried it
If it makes you smile, I eat between 10-20 sheets per day. I don't know what happened. One day I bought a small pack and became immediately addicted to the nutrients combined with the new texture of whole foods.

We eat a kind of gamtae that grow on stone in running water ,colour also a bit darker than this. Its flavour is like dry fish roasted .
