Wonderful work Scott. I like your Santa magics! I used to have a small solar wax melter. But the sun some times don't co-operate. Now I just throw the wax in a $3.99 GoodWill special) crockpot (slow cooker) with some water and a screen with a paper towel (to have the wax sit on top) and it makes very nice wax for me.
Hi Allan , yes I still use a pot with water to melt the wax when I am rewaxing foundation but for me this time of year I love this solar melter the wax come out nice and clean with nearly no effort on my part, I have not had the desire to turn the camera on lately, but perhaps I will try to do an update at some point. I built my first solar wax melter so I could hang the frames across it to melt off old brood comb, melted five plastic frames, and got very little wax from the brood wax. I now use my wife's old panty hose legs as filter bags. How often do you change the paper towel?
"melted five plastic frames"....Great minds think alike...LOL "How often do you change the paper towel?"...when the left over junk gets to be making a pile that makes it hard to add more wax, with the capping or scraping from the bee yard it takes a while but with the crap off brood frames it builds up fast so I change the paper more often. I will try to show that when I do a video of this in use. Thanks Scott
I've got a lot of hammers and mallets but I can't find one that works to cut wood. They'll all draw blood when swung properly but I'm not being successful with the wood cutting. The picture quality is not good enough for me to get a good look at how you're holding your mouth so if it's not too much trouble, could you use the closeup camera on your face for the next cut? Much obliged.

put a little door on the side to get the pan out. then you just need to lift the glass to put more wax in

Nice design. How do you keep the wind from blowing it around and not facing the sun?
I have a small wedge that I still in to stop it turning.
