I was just thinking about that moment. He was considered a bit of an enigma back then, with unbelievable pace and acceleration. It's a shame things didn't quite work out as it could have, but still a successful career overall nonetheless, with being a regular for a top 4 team and for England for a prolonged period.
Obviously most people fell in love with Arsenal because of Wenger & Henry..but watching that young kid play for Arsenal was very inspiring & it’s something special no one should ever forget. Thank you Theo 👏🏼👏🏼
Looking back, you realize how underrated he was. 108 goals for Arsenal. Some truly great performances throughout the years. Great career. Enjoy your retirement Theo! Once a gunner, always a gunner.
Theo speaks so articulately and intelligently. He’s had a great career, it is blatantly obvious he still has sooo much to offer the game, as a coach, manager or pundit. I’m a saints fan, I’d love for the club to find a place for him in our coaching setup but from this interview media companies will be falling over themselves to sign him up. At Saints, the club have a mantra “The Southampton Way” it’s a way to sum up an approach to the game but more importantly an approach to life, how to hold yourself in situations, in life and in general. Theo optimises that mantra, a true gent. All the best Theo.
I really think Theo could do a Stephen Bartlett type gig but for footballers and the way his head is screwed on I think he’d be very good at it he speaks very well
What a player!! I'm a Saints supporter and I can remember watching Theo as a youngster. It was lovely to have him return to Southampton and although we got relegated, he gave %100.
Will never forget you Theo!! From THOSE goals @ Newcastle, but more importantly for me, those goals against Reading in that 7-5 that made me an Arsenal diehard and football fan in general…thank you for amazing memories

Remember us signing him at 16, time flies. On his day, he was magnificent! Sadly, wasn’t consistent enough to be considered a top top player but will always love Theo! Also, very confident speaker and has many stories we would love to hear, will do well in the media
Really great to listen to Theo and get some more insight into his career. Considering the pressure and the spotlight that was on him at such a young age it's a testament to him and those that have supported and guided him that he's so level headed. He could have so easily been ruined by money and fame and he just comes across as a down to Earth, nice guy. Also must say, really like Gary's interviewing style, he's got a pretty good sense for knowing when to press on something and when to just sit back and let the subject talk.
I love Theo but let's be honest....Saka is way better and is actually fulfilling his potential. Theo still had a good career but injuries and inconsistency hurt him a lot. Best of luck to him going forward.
Whatever you say about Theo, he achieved more than most in the game. Over 100 goals for Arsenal, several FA cups/community shields. Legend for me, my nephew is named after him ❤
When Theo first came on. I remembered the press saying he was so fast that the camera lost track of him. That hat trick against Croatia... I don't remember many games tbh but I definitely remembered that hat trick!!! Best wishes Theo.
A good player who got opportunities way above his talent level, but as he said himself, you try telling a kid to say no. The one player who could never be caught when he was through. Definitely a thrill to watch at times for his sheer athletic ability.
@@daviel1005 His goal scoring stats disagree. He was a good striker, just not one that will win you the league. There's not many that can. That doesn't make them crap. Severely underrated because of his style of play, and the insane hype. Never forget: his G/As record at Arsenal was better than Eden Hazard at Chelsea.
It's refreshing to see a player talk openly and honestly, without the pressure of media expectation and scrutiny. More of this from active players would be good without the media training
I blame Sven for his career. There was no reason for him to take him to the WC. That started all the hype and attention on Theo which he never could live up to. Apart from that Theo has a great career.
Never quite made it this lad and watching this we can see why, it's the mental side of things. It probably doesn't have much to do with his playing ability but a truly world class player needs both great footballing ability and great mental strength.

Ask Barcelona who identified him as Arsenal’s main threat when they met a couple of occasions in the champions league. Ask Spurs or Liverpool’s defence who he regularly terrorised. You don’t make 270 appearances for the 3rd/4th best team in the country if you’re not a good player ffs!
So well spoken. You can tell how intelligent he is.
Nobody can tell you how you’ve achieved or not. Only you will know this. Excellent interview and Theo comes across as a very competent and thoughtful speaker.
Theo Walcott is the reason I am an Arsenal fan to this day. Incredible inspiration to a young football fan growing up. Arsenal icon for me.
Great video. Theo spoke really well. Fingers crossed for future roles in TV. Hopefully contract signed now.
I'm a Spurs fan and all I can say is what an incredibly classy, intelligent and articulate man he is. Kudos Theo - nothing but respect and I wish you nothing but the best. You'll definitely bring some much needed class to punditry 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
The hatrick against Newcastle was something else!!
I think Theo would kill it as a pundit. He's sharp, well spoken, and has a good brain on his shoulders. Great interview. Looking forward to seeing him on the air.
Theo, you are appreciated. We're the same age. You made great of your opportunities while you had the chance ❤
Yes same. Remember doing my AS Levels and Theo was getting called up for the 2006 World Cup! Mad how time flies
He grew up in my village of Compton and is the sole reason I love the game of football, suck a genuine person
I fell in love with arsenal towards the tail end of henry era, but as i grew into the club, theo was someone who was there and looked at him as a hero.. thanks u theo. I gave it all for the red side of London....
Crazy how time has flies I remember him in that World Cup squad wishing him the best in his retirement
Brilliant player in his day. Thanks for all the memories, Theo!
You don't always find footballers as well spoken as Theo does, always believed he could achieve amazing things in media
growing up watching Arsenal, Theo was the guy man.. thankyou for the memories . Once a gunner always a gunner 🙏🏾
@@StephenC-ct5yk That is a bit harsh
@@StephenC-ct5yk To say he is a bang average footballer is crazy. I think he was class on his day and yes he had a lot of injuries, And was caught offside a lot, But some of his finishing was henry alike
Theo speaks so clearly and with a level head. Speak volumes for the effort he's put into his mental health, so that he can support the others around him. Top Bloke.
Still remember his great Champions league dribble against Liverpool at Anfield to setup Adebayor 👍
I was just thinking about that moment. He was considered a bit of an enigma back then, with unbelievable pace and acceleration. It's a shame things didn't quite work out as it could have, but still a successful career overall nonetheless, with being a regular for a top 4 team and for England for a prolonged period.
Bro, by the time I finished celebrating, Gerrard was about to take the penalty 🤣
@@menelikkwhite2087you can thank Kolo Toure for that😂🤦🏾♂️
@@menelikkwhite2087bro! Same 😢
Obviously most people fell in love with Arsenal because of Wenger & Henry..but watching that young kid play for Arsenal was very inspiring & it’s something special no one should ever forget.
He could have such a chip on his shoulder , but comes across such a good lad and level headed 👏
Will never forget you Theo!! From THOSE goals @ Newcastle, but more importantly for me, those goals against Reading in that 7-5 that made me an Arsenal diehard and football fan in general…thank you for amazing memories
Theo Theo Theo Theo…. Happy retirement and thanks for all the memories. You deserve it!
Once again, completely on another level when it comes to providing players with a chance to commnicate honestly. Thanks to Theo, Gary, and the whole team.
Very well spoken guy, wish him all the best in his retirement
Nobody could have dealt with the scrutiny at such a young age better than theo seems to have done, seems like a humble man
Remember us signing him at 16, time flies.
His role in the 7-5 comeback against Reading made me an Arsenal fan. He was for us what Saka is to younger Arsenal fans
I love Theo but let's be honest....Saka is way better and is actually fulfilling his potential. Theo still had a good career but injuries and inconsistency hurt him a lot. Best of luck to him going forward.
The problem Theo had was he had this insane explosive pace but his skills couldn't utilise it enough and he'd go missing in games.
Great player and genuinely a nice person. All the best for the next chapter of your life Theo YNWA.
Whatever you say about Theo, he achieved more than most in the game. Over 100 goals for Arsenal, several FA cups/community shields. Legend for me, my nephew is named after him ❤
Gary conducted this interview very well, and asked all the right questions. Cheers G. Nev!
Arsenal legend
When Theo first came on. I remembered the press saying he was so fast that the camera lost track of him. That hat trick against Croatia... I don't remember many games tbh but I definitely remembered that hat trick!!! Best wishes Theo.
A good player who got opportunities way above his talent level, but as he said himself, you try telling a kid to say no. The one player who could never be caught when he was through. Definitely a thrill to watch at times for his sheer athletic ability.
He didn't get opportunities above his talent level. Not many players score more than 100 goals for Arsenal and score a hat-trick for England
@@franklingoodwin Giroud got to 100 goals in less than half the time it took Walcott and Giroud couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo.
Giroud wasn't a winger
@@daviel1005 His goal scoring stats disagree. He was a good striker, just not one that will win you the league. There's not many that can. That doesn't make them crap. Giroud in terms of numbers is very similar to Drogba, yet people say Drogba was world class. Agendas are funny and when it comes to Giroud there's a definite agenda. Also Giroud is France's top goalscorer ever
Wow. Incredible interview. Theo is so honest. As an Arsenal fan he was amazing for Arsenal. There were times when he was devastating for Arsenal, a real game-changer. Fantastic career. For sure Theo can be proud. Enjoy retirement mate!
108 goals for The Arsenal. Amazing achievement
Nah didnt score that many
@@Afed390 He did.

damn man this makes me realise how i am getting older. Theo was 16 when he broke through and i first started watching football around 05/06 season. Now he’s one of the last ones to retire from those that were still playing back then.
He's now 34. Fuck I'm old.
34 isn’t even old so there’s no way you’re old unless you’re older than 34. You’re old if you’re older than 44 years old then yeah I get it you’re old but we all get old and it’s absolutely nothing to worry about.

Thank you Mr Neville & Mr Walcott for an intelligent, insightful and revealing interview. Theo’s clearly a thoroughly decent bloke and I wish him well for he and his families future.
Theo was excellent last season at Southampton
So good they went down 😂
@@alexcoupe. He didn't play alone you know.
He wasn’t though, very inconsistent
@@jamesm9995Lost his pace at Everton (he was starting to lose it at the end of his Arsenal career but was still quick, just no longer rapid). Unfortunately for Theo he never learnt great positioning. That's the difference between an elite player like Henry's and others blessed with the kind of pace Theo had (he was actually quicker than Henry)
@@franklingoodwin he was way faster than Henry at any point of his career, even Juve Henry was slower than Theo
A very level headed guy. No ego whatsoever. The pressure in him at 16 must have been unbelievable. Best of luck with whatever is nexy Theo
Legend! Go life your life outside football bro. 🙏🏽💙🤝🏽
I’ve always liked Theo, seems like a genuine guy. Underappreciated by some Arsenal fans but he’s never said anything negative about the club. All the best Theo.
Arsenal legend. We love you❤
Named my son after you when you were at Arsenal. Absolute Legend and I loved watching you play.
You'll always be a gunner to me Theo!
All the best mate!
Great chat, what a career he's had and what a future in punditry he will have, so well spoken!
From Kenya with lots of love, you were among my favorites to grace the number 14. Once a gunner always a gunner
Severely underrated because of his style of play, and the insane hype.
Never forget: his G/As record at Arsenal was better than Eden Hazard at Chelsea.
This is a proof that G/As is not very reliable to determine who is a better player.
Wow, how level-headed is Theo here! A credit to himself and a super role model.
Love Theo and I maintain we would've won the league in 13/14 had he not got injured
Keep dreaming
Legit delusion from an arsenal fan . Why am I not surprised
@@1rkofanswhat’s your comeback to it rather than just calling him delusional with no explanation
And Ramsey too sadly
LOL
It's refreshing to see a player talk openly and honestly, without the pressure of media expectation and scrutiny. More of this from active players would be good without the media training
I blame Sven for his career. There was no reason for him to take him to the WC. That started all the hype and attention on Theo which he never could live up to. Apart from that Theo has a great career.
Never quite made it this lad and watching this we can see why, it's the mental side of things. It probably doesn't have much to do with his playing ability but a truly world class player needs both great footballing ability and great mental strength.
Agreed.
No cap, I legitimately thought Walcott retired after he left Arsenal.
😂😂😂😂
What a well adjusted and likeable guy! I grew up watching him at Arsenal and wish him all the best, hell of a player on his day 💪👏 thanks for all the memories Theo!
Sven knocked his confidence for a publicity stunt
Utd fan. What a joy to listen to and you've got more about you than chasing the money. Good luck to you fella.
Has a personality just like his football. Boring and Meh. Overpaid millions in wages and barely any output. Played well for a few days in a season to maintain a contract.
Sven buggered him up - too much too soon. Has always come across as a decent fella and certainly a real talent. Enjoy your retirement Theo, pleasure to have watched you perform.
The most lighting fast player I've ever seen live EASILY! He could blow ANYONE away. Injuries hurt his potential of truly being great just like a Jack Wilshere. They're still Arsenal ICONS in my eyes on TALENT alone. 🙏 .
Thank you for some of my favourite Arsenal moments Theo, once a gooner always a gooner!
Been an Arsenal fan since I was about 9 (2003) and Walcott at his best was absolutely brilliant. I remember when he found his shooting boots 3 or 4 seasons in and proved he COULD score goals, a lot of great goals as well. Definitely one of my favourite players of the past 15 years. Happy retirement Theo!
He averaged 5 goals a season 🤨
@imconfused1237 Considering that he missed so many games through injury, I'm not sure of what you are trying to prove.
Thanks for the memories Theo!
Enjoy the rest of your life bro !
