Yeah. That was kind of like the topology class I took in college. I knew what the professor was talking about, but I didn't understand a word of it. That was a brilliant video!

This is what I would like to do, but it seems like an overwhelming task to take on. Thank you for your posts. It is encouraging to know that others with large families are tackling off-grid living. Currently, we are just taking inventory of what works and what doesn't.

Well, it’s certainly doable, but I will caution that it is not for the faint of heart! You have to be flexible and willing to take what may come and adapt accordingly. Do your best to prepare, and the better you do, the more comfortable it will be.

Nice work! Enjoy those ‘indoor’ cups of cocoa.

Great job with the plumbing system. Loved the tour and all your tricks. The manual pump is a great addition especially the way you jury rigged it along side the pressure pump. A lot of people use the well pump to pressurize the tank. Why didn't you do that?
Our new house is planned to be above grade so no sump required here. I feel your pain with copper pipe....it is proven but expensive. And froze during the deep freeze we had here in Texas. Still not sure what we are doing for piping yet.

As far as pressurizing in the tank with a well pump, we don’t have a well pump. We collect water in a cistern that is right outside that wall where the pipe comes in. The cistern bottom is about 8 inches above the basement floor so there is no lift requirement. That’s why I’m using a booster pump. And, that’s why it’s so easy to pressurize with the manual pump.

Just curious, but what are your copper pipes lined with?

We have no lining in our pipes but the hot lines are covered with foam insulation.

@@ADifferentWay There have been case reports of people getting copper toxicity from unlined copper pipes. You might consider getting the copper content of your water tested since you're on rainwater and that's somewhat acidic (if you haven't already had the water tested). I believe there's higher copper when water is heated and when it's been sitting in the pipes for a while.

I’ve only seen issues when you don’t ream your copper pipes.

@@toddfriley9373 were the pipes lined or unlined?

Ours are not lined with anything.
