  • How to get bigger leaves on pothos? Getting bigger leaves on Money plant or Pothos is really very simple, you just need to grow the right variety and that is the Hawaiian Pothos. Though many resources say that there are differences between Golden Pothos and Giant Hawaiian Pothos, I believe both are same. What I believe is, a giant Hawaiin pothos, is just a Golden pothos that has grown in perfect conditions. I know that I could be wrong and so please let me know your opinion simply commenting below.

    I agree with you, coz in my childhood home, my mom planted normal pothos(not monster's/ Hawaiian variety) at the base of beetle nut palm. After they penetrated their aerial roots in the tree, the leaves become monstrous and the leaves also become shredded like monstera deliciosa. If it wasn't in my garden, in front of me, I wouldn't believe it!!!

    I have neon pothos. I will share my experience with you. After putting in moss stick in pot, plant made roots into it. I shower stick with water daily. I noticed that after making aerial roots in moss stick, leaf size increased for leaves with aerial roots. Then I started giving seaweed to the plant once a week. This initiated growth in branch where there was no growth taking place. Then I started using urea later, I was astonished to see that the size of these leaves grew everytime I give urea (once a month). So in all - size of money plant leaf is coming from urea and aerial roots feeding on moss stick. This is my experience.

      @Manju K, Thank you very much for sharing your experience and you have definitely done a great job, that's superb. But, bigger leaf means, I was actually referring to the size of the leaves which I have shown at 2:26, 3:35. The width of the leaf is more than 1 FOOT and in normal situations, it's impossible to get such huge leaves. Again from the footage at 3:53 - Most of the money plants are going to have smaller leaves, except it's a Hawaiian Pothos. Thank you for watching the video :-)

      @@GardeningUpbeat Definitely. You are correct in your video that it is a different variety. With the tricks I discovered on my plant nurturing journey just highlights the ways to increase the size by few cms. But by no means my pothos leaves is anywhere near a foot wide or long.

      @Manju K, Please no worry :-) I love all my plants and I let them grow as they like. But problem is, many people are searching for tricks to get bigger leaves. That's why I decided to upload this video so that people can know the actual fact, not like many other Fake Channels. Many Channels show the pic of Hawaiian Pothos just to attract the visitors and so I thought, it's really important to let others know about the reality. Thank you :-)

    Hawaï pothos are just regular golden pothos, those two plant are epipremnum aureum, it's even identified by botanist, it's only a marketing name. It's just golden pothos growing as an invasive species in that island, like pretty much everywhere else

    Your videos are the most helpful on RUclips for the Indian climate! Can I suggest one thing - when you make long videos eg. 170 days of flowering plants or any such type of videos, can you please mention the date/ month of each step of the process? Like month of repotting, month of pruning, month of adding fertilizers again and then when the flowering season starts? This will help us to start the same processes in the same seasons to ensure good results for flowering or fruiting. Thanks!

    Here in Florida, US a lot of people plant the golden pothos directly in the ground at the base of palm trees and the vines grow up the tree and the leaves become monstrous.

  • @andikaprayoga7816
    @andikaprayoga7816 3 года назад +6

    Such a cute little girl! I’m not quite sure if they’re not the same species. I guess that you were right that it’s only a marketing term and simply thicker stem produces bigger leaves. What I’ve witnessed so far, even a common golden photos can become bigger than that hawaian photos you shared here, but it can only become giant if the stem is thick enough. And to make the stem thick, the photos need to climb up with the support of their aerial roots. The more it counter the gravity, the more it will have aerial roots and thicker stems (equals to bigger leaves). And even at just 2m high, sometimes the leaves already have fenestrations, and when they do, they will just look like monstera marmorata, so beautiful. Thanks for the video & keep on sharing :)

    If you want it to keep making giant leaves like the original it needs a good thick tall pole, tree branch to cling to and grow up. Otherwise the leaves will keep getting smaller as it grows.

    • @GardeningUpbeat
      @GardeningUpbeat  2 года назад

      That's correct and thank you for your inputs..unfortunately, new leaves eventually get smaller as it's hard to find huge n taller moss sticks and difficult to build on our own. Tree is a great option though and I am totally agree with you. Anyway, it's just a marketing trick....they get those branches with bigger leaves from other matured plants and sale to us. I am glad with my bushy and healthy money plants which are on 3 inches tall moss pole. Quite easy to manage :-)

    It's not just size either that makes me love pothos. Cebu blue or epipremnum pinatum blue form, gets long yeah but they fenestrate like crazy!!! Monstera plants can be like this too, the siltepecana gets fenestrated holes like an adansonii. My rule of thumb is to look at how said plant grows in the wild. The info is out there. Treat each form different. Some pothos just don't get big while others do and some don't fenestrate while others do. I stopped watching certain plant people on here because they really don't know as much as they make them selves appear. Watch a ton of these videos. Draw your own conclusions from that. It's more rewarding too. Big names can honestly be a bummer sometimes.
