Kevin definitely has stamina since he beat boxer throughout their entire concerts. So about 1-1/2hrs every show. He’s so good that you forget there isn’t just a track behind them. He also cello-boxes- meaning he beatboxes while he is playing cello

HA! You'll find your "favorite" shifts from song to song -- or even several times in the same song! We LOVE Kevin (the beatboxer). He not only slays the beat, he plays concert level cello and sax, sings, composes, speaks multiple languages (Including Chinese Mandarin) and has a pre-med degree from Yale. He's an overachiever.

The original by Simon and Garfunkel is a gentle warning, the Disturbed version is rage that the warning was ignored, the Pentatonix version is sadness tinged with hope that just maybe you'll listen this time around. Just as an aside, if you want to hear the beatboxer, Kevin, sing, try their cover of Imagine or Mary did you know.

I'd recommend their cover of the late John Lennon's "Imagine". It was prior to 2018 so it has Avi Kaplan, the original bass, rather than Matt (the new guy on the end). Kevin (the beatboxer) is considered one of the best in the world. He also cello-boxes, which is playing his cello (he's played Carneige Hall) and beatboxing at the same time. A perfect example of this is in their cover of Shallow (Lady Gaga). As for the comments ... we Pentaholics are a devoted group ... we will talk your ear off if you let us.

  • @mecfstraveler

Pentatonix vision was to do mainstream music acapella style.. meaning sounding like there are instruments, but everything is actually sounds made with their mouths or bodies. So Kevin's beatboxing skill and, yes, stamina is a huge part of making that work! He's phenomenal! The bass is often creating a straight bass line and with the beatboxing the two become the rhythm section. A really good song you could react to for an example of great beats is a mashup they did called "New Rules" x "Are You That Somebody" and Kevin and Matt did Timbaland's beats for Aliya's "Are You That Somebody" under the entire lyrical mashup. Kevins beatboxing is insane in that one! But it shows how important that rythm section is underneath the fabulous vocals. It makes the grouo sound like a band.. not an acapella group. This group amazes me.

Would love to see you react to "Imagine" (John Lennon), perfect for today's mixed up world...and "Rise", originally by Katy Perry, which is performed by Superfruit (which is Scott and Mitch, they tend to be more adventurous than PTX...that's the best word I can come up with), and the story is that they performed this particular song in remembrance of the lives lost at Pulse, in Florida. Yes, you're right, Avi left the group in 2017 and they got Matt to replace him as the bass. But, that is the only change that has happened. Kirsten and Mitch change their looks often, so that may confuse some people. They started their world tour but had to put in on hold in mid March because of the COVID 19 pandemic. Their concerts are unlike anything you would imagine for an a cappella group, especially with only five people.

You should give Disturbed’s version of this song a listen. They are a heavy metal band, but David Draiman was classically trained, and he has a very aggressively operatic take on this song. It is amazing.! I never thought I would like anyone else’s cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s masterpiece, but Pentatonix blew me away, and then I heard Disturbed and was knocked flat. I’m sorry to the hard core Pentatonix fans of which I’m (almost, getting there) one, but for me, Disturbed’s version is better. But I can recommend Pentatonix and Lindsay Sterling’s cover of Radioactive, a favourite of mine, and Hallelujah

This song was stuck in my head for a week after hearing it. This was the first song I heard Matt in and I was so impressed with how good he is. Kirsten has progressed so much over the years. I loved her vibrato in this song. Very nice. Mitch is kinda my favorite. I could see him having a solo career. He's just that good. I knew that after he did LOVE AGAIN. He really shined in that video. Not saying his other performances were less shiny but, that song really showed me how powerful his voice was. Great reaction. I agree that Kevin is very talented. He has so many really. It's completely understandable why you choose him. Scott I've been listening to for awhile and I'm just not that into him. I don't know why. I mean he can sing, has quite a range and he's talented. His voice is a bit over bearing sometimes and kind of generic to me.

Thanks for another great reaction :-)
Don't let folks correcting you get you down, we're just over-enthusiastic, lol. That said, we are also a loyal, happy bunch overall, so welcome!
I agree that the beat, as well as the bass, provide the foundation to everything the rest of the group does - Kevin gets mad respect from fans and bandmates alike, deservedly so. Thought you might like to see the viral video that was posted that led the trio (middle three, sung in high school together) to find him - not for a reaction, just FYI :-)

Avi left in 2017 and replaced by Matt (who was personally chosen by Avi to audition). You should really watch their Daft Punk (one of the older ones, won them a grammy and was filmed in a closet), Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy (no lyrics but honestly amazing, also won them a grammy), and honestly... all the rest. Don't know if you are up to listening to their Christmas covers now, but you won't regret it if you do!

I love your discovery of PTX! Yes, no matter what they say, we all have a favorite. Mine is Avi (Ah-vee). He does have a solo career with an album released not too long ago. Every song is amazing and very unique. My current favorite is Kevin, like you! That being said, I would highly recommend Daft Punk medley by Pentatonix. The breakdown Kenvin and Avi have is pretty legendary. I'm subscribing now that you are doing PTX reactions. Don't let me down!

You asked about the beatbox Kevin Olusola. He graduated from Yale and went on to Yale Law School. His parents were apprehensive to say the least when he was invited into the group. Now he's got Grammys and he's known around the world. Guess he can always fall by on his law career if he gets bored. lol

Thank you for this reaction to pentatonix . They are an amazing acapella group and i love how they work together and you can hear all the sounds. Yes avi has gone solo and matt i believe is the new one that took over for avi kaplan. Here is a link to one of avi solo song called «change on the rise» ruclips.net/video/382BTxLNrow/видео.html... the next you have to react to from pentatonix is a medley of daft punk . This is amazing too and will leave you the link for that too. ruclips.net/video/3MteSlpxCpo/видео.html. Hope to see you react to more from pentatonix.

You need to check out some more of their productions and go down the rabbit hole of things like radioactive with Lindsey Stirling, the Wizard of Oz with Todrick Hall, as well as many of their other music videos! These talented five people are truly amazing! And whether it is Avi or Matt doesn’t matter the talent still shines through! I love what they did with Havana and Lourdes stuff not to mention everybody else’s covers!

I scrolled through a few comments. Somebody mentioned that your favorite shift with each song and I totally agree. Thank you very much for giving props to Kevin. The gentleman in the white jacket Matt replace Avi and I think that is his sound fits in perfectly with the group. Perfectly. I have to say that this is my favorite video because of Scott. I've never heard him sing so and with hit the first 3 words his hands reached out of the screen and gravel a hold of you and then you are trans fix on there performance. I should actually say instead of you. I saw this video a few months ago and that hold that Kevin I mean Scott has on me she has never let dough. I'm driving and I don't have time to proofread my comment so hopefully you get it all. On a completely different note I would love to see you react to a performance on America's Got Talent. The video is titled 84 year old man sings hilarious song. His name is Ray Jessel. And you will be done at at his performance. It's a video performance that you watch for tickles and giggles.
