I remember a story from Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman about their appearance on the Hollywood Palace in 1964. Dean was host and kinda made fun of them. Bill said Keith Richards wanted to hit him with his guitar. I think that's bull. Not to be believed. Just bluster. Had Richards done that Dean was a powerful man at the time and would have ended the Rolling Stones career before it ever got started. Keith Richards always acted tough but really wasn't nor very smart.
When I am a little long in the tooth -- I come on RUclips and dial up Dean, George, Johnny, et. al! Never disappoints - and, then I go to sleep Smilin'. Not like the flat, untalented late nights of today - only one exception is James Cordon and thank goodness for James and Harry
Kangaroo down is underrated. You can stuff a kit bag with it, & your Matilda by the billabong won't know what hit you. Of course, things could boomerang.
I so wish life and the world was as it was then! Things were much more relaxed back then. No one really hated anyone else. There were negatives, of course, but life moved at a slower pace. ❤️🐈
George Gobel was my Dad's favorite comedian, and "Tie Me Kangaroo Down" was a song that he sang to me and played frequently on our organ. He had perfect pitch, and could play anything that he had heard once. That gift skipped me, but was passed along to our son (much to the chagrin of our daughter and I 😉).
Yep, those were the days all right. They were so much fun and I miss them so... Be sure to watch them together with George singing "Hole in the Bucket". That one's a hoot-and-a-half for sure.
Genius! As a raunchy as anything from "The Hangover" yet not one foul word but God help you explaining this to kids! These men seemed to revel in making EACH OTHER laugh. We ( the audience) just tagged along. You've all ( or some of you at least) have seen my posts, Dean Martin was a comedic genius, he knew just how far ( or not far) to go. Everything began or ended with him.
Dean & George played off each other perfectly. Both are comedy gold as well as beautiful voices, watch them on Johnny Carson who later said having George & Dean on was his favorite episode.
Martin & Goebel alone were hilarious, but there's just something between these 2 when they were together always cracked me up more than any other they were paired with
Just A Girl hopefully you will check them out on a RUclips tonight show. I think it about 1966 or so. It is really funny. I think I found it by Google Dean and George Gobble tonight show....it a must see
+It is me With that comment, along with his other ones here, Dean is trying to make it sound as though having to listen to George perform this song is a kind of torture (example: "Heavens to heartburn" = "You're giving me heartburn")...in actuality, he's only joking--the comments are all part of the skit.
I remember one time on Johnny Carson, Gobel was telling a story to Johnny and every time he turned to look at Carson, Dean would flick his cigarette ash into George's coffee thus causing the audience to laugh. Gobel would then look to the audience to see what was so funny, and, getting no answer, he then returned his attention to Johnny. Well after this happened a few times, George looks at the audience, still no idea what's causing their laughter, and says, "You ever feel like the world is a tuxedo and you're a pair of brown shoes?"
Dean was the best don’t get the credit he was owed to him watch any rat pack Movie live show Interview talk show he stoled the show love and miss ya dean you ruled
THEY CAN' T DO ANYTHING WITHOUT THE CURSING, IN TODAYS WORLD. THIS IS WHAT COMEDY IS ABOUT, MAKING PEOPLE LAUGH. ITS NOT PUTTING PEOPLE DOWN, ESPECIALLY OUR PRESIDENT. SURE MISS ALL THE OLD ONES. R I P
I only have one question - how the heck did George get through this song without cracking up at the expressions on Dean's face?! (Like he did when they sang 'Hole In My Bucket' in another sketch?) To me, these two are SO much funnier together than anything I have ever seen Dean do with Jerry on the Colgate Comedy Hour.
Unfortunately the song he is singing was written and first sung by the now deceased Australian family entertainer Rolf Harris. Who recently went to prison here in the UK for sexual abuse.
Well Deano kinda owed Georgie boy from a previous appearance on Carson where Dean kept ashing his cig in George's drink when George wasn't looking. Hilarious pair Edit: Respect ot both. Especially George who as a stateside AAF flight instructor almost single-handedly kept the Japanese from invading the US across the Southern border
Tan me hide when I'm dead Fred. Tan me hide when I'm dead. So we tanned his hide when he died Clyde...and that's it hangin' on the shed. All together now.....
George always played this guitar which is almost as big as he is. What make and model is this guitar? Another hilarious video is George and Dean singing "There's A Hole In The Bucket". It has the best George Gobel laugh I ever heard.
It's a Gibson. George originally played a Gibson Super 400, but as you said, it was almost as big as he was, so Gibson designed and built a smaller version for him - the L5-CT. I don't know for sure, but I suspect the one in this video is the Super 400.
even if the Cold War was on in the time they made these shows, the world was a better place than it is now. I'm an optimistic person, but those times back then were so innocent. People should laugh more, be more generous and fight less.
Can ANYONE even Imagine... If Mel Brooks, and Dean Martin --- had ever collaborated on some venture???? I can 'ACTUALLY' Picture it --- Dean Martin, Harvey Korman, Madelyn Kahn, Gene Wilder... maybe throw in some Burt Reynolds & Dom DeLuise... an' a splash o' Jerry Reed & Don Knotts. OMG --- COMEDY GOLD!
lutherheggs That is the George Gobel model Gibson (L-5CT). It was the very first red Gibson guitar. George is playing the prototype here. Only 44 production line guitars were ever made. If you ever find one in someone's attic...steal it.
That was a real knee slapper. 😲 That's the kind of crap that made commercials popular, a sorely needed break from such sappy foolishness. Pure boolshit.
Mmmmmmm. Kangaroo bondage. Kangy bungees. One thinks of one's cockatoo, or three. One's didgeridoo wouldn't necessarily, in a dilemma. On the horns, anyway. That's sheepherding for you. You heard of sheep.
This is terrible! I know Rolf Harris spent 3 years in jail (and deserved every damn minute of it and more), but he knew how to sing the song. That guy should never even attempted to sing it, he was so bad.
AH, the good ol' days. Dean was the coolest guy ever. George was always a barrel of laughs, too.
On how I wish this type of show would come back to TV.
It never will.
Never happen there is no talent like it today
Great stuff. Dean and George were great together. Great chemistry , miss these days.
You remember these days?
I do too. I was a little girl and it was wonderful times. Humor was awesome.
Oh to be back there watching this again. The best times compared to the drivel we have endure these days..
Dean Martin has to have been the coolest guy that ever lived
Dean was the top! Looks, talent, moves. There were a lot of great entertainers on the hill, but Dean was in the sky!
I remember a story from Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman about their appearance on the Hollywood Palace in 1964. Dean was host and kinda made fun of them. GOD!! What a beautiful, talented, funny, outstanding man Dean Martin was and is!! Wish I were part of his generation!!
When I am a little long in the tooth -- I come on RUclips and dial up Dean, George, Johnny, et. al! Never disappoints - and, then I go to sleep Smilin'. Not like the flat, untalented late nights of today - only one exception is James Cordon and thank goodness for James and Harry
Yeah! And make sure those kids stay out of your yard!
Love hearing Dean and George Gobel sing a song about Kangaroo down.
Kangaroo down is underrated. You can stuff a kit bag with it, & your Matilda by the billabong won't know what hit you. Of course, things could boomerang.
The innuendo was amazing. Good clean fun.
I so wish life and the world was as it was then! Things were much more relaxed back then. No one really hated anyone else. There were negatives, of course, but life moved at a slower pace. ❤️🐈
There was a lot more respect between people then...... differences yes, and as you stated life moved at a slower pace. Peace my friend. 🙏🌎

Mr Martin...you are one class act.
Two of my all-time favourites. Thanks.
Classic Dean Martin, so good
I was Dying!!!! Lol! All i have to do is watch Dean and I'm done! Lol!

How good they are together! Great men both🌹
Hilarious!! Deans handsomeness is so extraordinary! His expressions are so funny! Great clip to cheer a person up!
This is so great it’s good to have a laugh
I kept expecting one of them to say that "you can't keep a good Cockatoo down". LOL. This was a great show back in the day.
Legends of comedy for sure, clean and funny 👍
"I feel sorry for people who don't drink because when they get up in the morning, that's the best they are going to feel all day" - Dean Martin
Funny it’s coming from him lol
Fuckin oath

I truly hope a time machine is invented soon. Then y'all can go back in time and everybody will be better off.
I’m an Aussie and that was good

I always had a crush on Dean Martin, even as a little girl.
Dino was cool.
Alcohol🍸
Yeah, well ol' Dino was pretty much-tanked half of the time.
I was a very young lad, tie me kangaroo down...Classic.
Martin & Goebel alone were hilarious, but there's just something between these 2 when they were together always cracked me up more than any other they were paired with

"Heavens ta heartburn"--OMG, Dean... x)
+Dena Dixon What does it mean?

Tears. In. My. Eyes!! LOL!
The lead in chord absolutely slays me

They just set Australian music back about 40 years!
Play your derigeridoo
George Goebel was actually really good guitar player along with being a comedian and a senior
Great song

My wife loves a cockatoo. I love an old comedian.
THEY CAN' T DO ANYTHING WITHOUT THE CURSING, IN TODAYS WORLD. THIS IS WHAT COMEDY IS ABOUT, MAKING PEOPLE LAUGH. ITS NOT PUTTING PEOPLE DOWN, ESPECIALLY OUR PRESIDENT. SURE MISS ALL THE OLD ONES. R I P
I miss the days when you didn't have to yell an entire comment.
We use to place our books in the kangaroos pouch and ride them too school..Those were the days.
🇦🇺🤠👍
Rusty Woodpecker lmao 😂
Dean: "How can we get this sketch past the censor?"
George: "Well, I've got this song..."
Not just creative but inventive! 😅
Great routine by two masters and Dino is the second banana
Back in the days that was sence of humor
Wow, what a large guitar!
Geo. Gobel was a rather diminutive fellow
Gibson Super 400 acoustic. Awesome!

Song by Rolf Harris 'tie me kangaroo down' . 1963.
Good stuff.
As an Australian... how the hell did George find out about this song? Lol
Nice guitar!
make more of Our Family Sports Show
I see there are 99 comments, so I’m making it a nice even hundred.
Are you fucking kidding me? 😂Tell me what in this world even comes close to this today,
Unfortunately the song he is singing was written and first sung by the now deceased Australian family entertainer Rolf Harris. Who recently went to prison here in the UK for sexual abuse.

did they leave out the verse about first nations people intentionally ?

4 minutes of hilarious double entendres, but somehow only offended Australians in the comment section
Someone needs to make this into a TV commercial for Viagra or Cialis... LoL

I sympathize, George. Being old enough to have seen this skit in its' original airing, well.............YOU know. :-/
His guitar is very big!
fuuny
Oh GEORGE.....did you forget your large guitar at home?
Hey Valentine Pet
My dog looks just like Dean Martin and I kind of hate him for it.
We have fallen so far...
I forgot what sexy eyes he had.😂
What kind of guitar is that?
I think it's a Les Paul :)
lutherheggs That is the George Gobel model Gibson (L-5CT). It was the very first red Gibson guitar. George is playing the prototype here. Only 44 production line guitars were ever made. If you ever find one in someone's attic...steal it.
I noticed electric models available on a custom basis for 12,000 dollars
+lutherheggs He needed that guitar to replace his didgeridoo after it wouldn't. You don't appear on national TV with a didgeridoo that didgeriwon't.
It is a Gibson L5 the Gibson (L-5CT) had a cutaway a very cool guitar.
I always thought Dean was smarmy.
Dean was a better comedian then Lewis.
Is it me or is that a big guitar?
It's a small guitar player, regular guitar size 😁
Liberace ate a cockatoo!
Gibson acousticwith f holes
