The Ingersoll Rand 114GQC Air Hammer ruclips.net/user/postUgkxqqoaX03nrziKwF7Bjjcc71YzLEleMvOS was just the tool I needed. I Use it to remove stuck bolts. If held at the right angle you can cut slightly into the bolt. Then turn the air hammer to where it will hammer the stuck bolt to unspin the bolt. Given a little practice it works great. This air hammer gives you the control needed to get the job done right. Very powerful yet still does not seem to have as much vibration as other guns I have used. One of the best I have gotten my hands on.
Since I can no longer dig with a shovel, this might just be the solution for me. Thank you so much for this video.
Me till I was heading up to either home depot or lowes and the garden center Definitely hard to dig this many holes
🍃🌷🍃
When I hit 50 and I fell apart, cant dig for shit any more!
I've watched every minute of it even though I live in an apartment lol
Eloise Ho hahaha! I really have no plans to use an auger but I also watched the entire video. Really enjoy all their videos!
same lol
I don't even plant but watching any of their videos is therapeutic for me
It's satisfying in the same way watching travel shows helps us feel like we've 'been somewhere'!
I am a condo dweller with no scope of owning a home in the near future. But boy!! Do I learn from Laura. If I ever get lucky enough to buy a house - I am ready to garden!
For context, I have a small garden, so no mass bulb plantings etc. Its midnight here in Australia, on Saturday night no less. I have just spent 17 minutes watching a video about digging holes using a drill. Now I don't own a drill so this is not something I will likely need. But, that my friend is how much I look forward to all of your videos. Watched it, loved it and if I'm ever in the market I now have all the information I need. Thanks so much. Now Iprobably need to go to sleep...🤣
Watching our friend Laura do absolutely ANYTHING is entertaining!!
Jenny Williams I know right? In Melbourne watching bulb planting videos even though we can’t plant until May😁
Same! I’m in Perth and have a paved outdoor area with a lot of pots. I watch every video because I love the information. Even if it’s clearing a mountain of snow off their roof 🤣 It’s almost like Laura and Aaron are our friends, and we’re hanging out with them.
Got an auger and tried it out last week..kicked up a ton of dirt..i had the drill on reverse!!!worked much better going in the proper direction!
I _hate it_ when that happens!
Thanks. Using mine for the first time after Gator football game. Will be sure to check it is in forward.
Sounds like something I would do! lol
Oh no! Lol
I just honestly LOLed im sorry. Great it worked out in the end though!
I have lupus and this is a serious game changer for me! No more of having to wait on my husband to dig a hole for me! Thanks you so much 😊
Very informative..... I was watching keenly and I don’t have a garden.... Laura listening to you talk in the mornings is always very relaxing for me mentally ...... Thank you.
So glad you’re learning young to make it easier so you can garden indefinitely. 👍🏻😊💚
I began woodland shade gardening 6 years ago after I retired. Every design and every plant has to pass this test: will it continue to be workable as I get older? My goal is to be able to enjoy the experience as my abilities will inevitably change as time goes on.
You are so lucky to have no rocks. I’m in NE and it’s “ dig a hole find a rock” . They are the best thing I grow in my garden lol
Yeah I look at her digging her holes in disbelief, like where is this magical soil with no rocks? With us any hole I dig would be at least 1/4 rocks. I'm hoping this drill & auger concept (after I get it and watch all the safety videos) would help me save time despite the rock farm reality.
Us too. We are a fishing and farming community on the Massachusetts coast. We "grow" rocks here😂! They come up everywhere: in my vegetable garden, flower plots, hedges, and even coming up in our paved driveway!!! We have Grown some very large ones over the last thirty years. But mostly we have the smaller rocks.
Laura and Aaron are so blessed to not have to deal with this problem.
We clear the garden of those obstacles. Then we can dig anywhere.
Finally getting one! Planting will be much easier now.
I never new digging a hole can be so satisfying 😎🍁🌱
I looked at just about every YT video that covered using a plant auger and this is the ONLY one that fully explained how/and how not to use this tool. Thank you.
That's what I like about your channel, you go beyond with as much helpful information as you can. TYFS
Excellent demonstration and presentation of use of augers in gardening. Bravo!
SooooooooOoooOOoo excited for spring videos by Garden Answer🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
We've used an auger and drill to plant summer annuals for a couple years. When doing large amounts, or making patterns in odd shaped beds, it goes really fast.
My husband and I are getting to a place in life where digging really hurts! This video gave me hope for feeling better about "digging" in our yard and doing it with much less pain the next day.
Thank you, so much! I appreciate all you guys do to make our gardening more fun!!!
God bless you!!!
After using the auger, your soil looks like powdered cocoa flying through the air and I'm LIVING for it! 💚
I'm sure that, shortly, some pseudo-soil-microbiologist will be in the comments section ranting about disrupting the soil ecology. Those "no-dig" folks are like cult followers.
@@Bamboo4U2 Well even no dig people need a hole to plant a new plant in! They just don't dig it much after that.
I bought an auger after watching one of your earlier videos. I planted 80 tulips around the new light pole my husband and son installed and he watched me and was amazed at how much easier it made the job. We have rocky and heavy clay soil in unpredictable spots so once in a while it would throw my wrist around. Hubby took the drill and put it on setting 1 and after that it worked like a dream! I can't agree more with you! Hubby said, I bet if you were using a shovel that would be much more work. I said, "Well I wouldn't even be doing this then." So thumbs up!!! Thank you Laura. Another Michigan gardener here.
Question, I have stones in my soil, sometimes Im picking them out. Did your auger still drill through safely or did the auger throw the stones around?
@@vtwlim67 it depends on the size of the stones. Smaller ones just came up with soil. Bigger ones stopped the auger. The first year doing this all went well, this past fall the drill ripped out of my hand twice and I damaged two fingers. It took 7 months to heal. My husband is going to get me a two handed drill for this coming fall.
Excellent demo! I am doing more bulbs every year and for a senior an auger will be very useful.
The Niewold family are such great people! So happy to see their products working so well in your garden!
I am literally waiting for my sister to show up with her auger so we can start planting my bulbs. Watching your videos is one of my favorite things to do in the morning while I drink my coffee.
Wow!! I am loving this. For those of us who ache after big plantings this could be a Godsend!!
I’m 60 (female) & have been putting up posts & trellises & planting climbers in a new garden. By hand. Trees are next. While it’s good work for building senior upper body strength (😂) I’m def going the auger route in the future. Thank you for the demo!
I'm looking at my 12V cordless drill and feeling inadequate :)
*off to talk wife into getting a 20V hammer drill*
LOL me too
Love your videos, I've been watching you since the beginning. At first it was to learn more about gardening & then it felt like I was watching a dear friend so I kept watching to see my "friend" & to celebrate in your new house & growing family.
So I am watching this video with my honey, who also enjoys your videos, & he was mentioning the drill you're using is a hammer drill specifically designed for drilling into concrete & masonry as well as regular drilling which is why has the handle. He was saying it also has the bigger opening, a 1/2 inch chuck, smaller drills have a 3/8 inch chuck. I hope this is helpful for anyone looking to buy a drill with a handle or one like you guys have.
Love it! While the initial investment is more, I am thinking that you could use the 9 inch auger even for smaller pot planting, right? After all, you would just be churning up the soil into nice fluffy medium. Which would be good for the plant and your garden soil; would you agree?
Also... would LOVE to learn about the solar landscape lighting you use. I see them in your video’s often and wonder if you’ve found a good quality light that lasts long and provides strong enough light to highlight the garden at night! You guys are AWESOME!🌿
I am rethinking augers now. The on we broke was the wrong type auger. I feel like this was very good for me to see. Thanks so much!!
I need these! I never thought of planting anything but bulbs this way. My knees are so bad I can't dig much anymore. I was wondering what I'm going to do. The cost is an issue, but could save for it. Worth it to save my knees. Still have to dig up plants for dividing, but I wouldn't have to dig a second hole for the division. Thank you so much!
I had over 7,000 plants that needed to be planted on my steep hillside. I'm so happy I found your video! After watching, I immediately ordered the DeWalt Power Drill and the 3" long auger. Thanks for providing the link! You saved the day!! Now I have 650 daffodil bulbs to plant - I feel lucky!
When I saw you using the small one for tulips, the lightbulb went off in my head! I ordered a big one last week 😀
Ha! I was planning to get my other half a power auger for Christmas this year (he's an ice fisherman). Who knew that it would end up being a gift for me, too! 😁 Thanks so much for the idea. You're by far my favorite channel.
This was SO helpful!! I first got myself a 24" auger that was NOT PowerPlanter and it stripped almost right away, I maybe got 3 holes dug then it just would not grip (no hex). So I ordered the PowerPlanter after your planting of the 3k bulbs and it was a world of difference. I did find that the handle was necessary in my clay and rocky soil, and my Dewalt did not have one. However, the replacement handles sell on Amazon for $12 - and thanks to all these great tips I'm finally finishing up my 2400 bulb planting journey. Thank you for helping me do these tasks all by myself!!
Thank you so much Laura and Aaron, great video. Digging with a shovel has become more and more difficult as I have gotten older and this would be the perfect solution to me being able to plant some things in my small yard. I have a good drill with three batteries, and it's a heavier duty drill, so this is the solution for me. Now I am armed with great information and I can get these tools. Thank you again for a wonderful video, when spring comes I will be ready.
You are not alone. This year was the worst on my body to the point of restricting me from the activity I have loved more than thirty years. I'm now on an anti-inflammatory diet and in one week have noticed improved mobility. By next spring, I should be back to my old (younger) self and enjoying gardening again.
I have never thought about getting an auger....but I will be in the market in the spring. How have I never thought of how easy this would be for spring planning. 🙂 I love your video's. Thank you for so many great tips.
Here I am in 2021 and I bought my auger after seeing Laura drill holes for bulbs, and I can not tell you how glorious this one tool changed my life!!!
I have hard clay and use a two inch auger and can dig any size hole with it. I use it to plant anything I need. I am 77 and can’t use a shovel. Just make sure you are pushing down from above
Veterans/active duty gardeners - My husband bought an auger attachment this week and I keep buying bulbs 🌷🥀🌷🥀🌷🥀! Home Depot was throwing.bulbs.out (should have seen my face) so after my husband sarcastically offered to dumpster dive for me (lol) we bought the last three bags of bulbs they had in store that I sniffed out for 50% off (+ 10% military discount). We then headed down to English Gardens (20% off bulbs) & we got a few more bags (of course). Since my husband is a veteran English Gardens is giving free! ($20 value) Garden Club memberships to active duty & veterans this week due to veterans day (another score!) - heads up to your viewers. Tomorrow is bulb planting time and we feel so ready thanks to you Laura! Thank you for giving such great content consistently. We love your videos!!
Thanks for doing this demo, Laura and Aaron! I invested in these a couple of years ago when we had to redo our entire landscape after a flood. They have paid for themselves over and over in saving time and our backs. I use them to plant everything from bulbs to 5 gallon cans and they work beautifully to “till” the soil so the plants have a nice loose home to grow roots. I’m sure this will help many people! 💚🌿🌷
Very very helpful! I can’t dig with a shovel anymore at 72 due to back problems! Thank you so much.I didn’t know these existed! Now I can garden again without help!👍
Hi Laura! Thank you sharing all of the information on the different size drills and augers! You and Aaron are always so thoughtful in sharing these types of tips, and it is very much appreciated.
Yes these help so much!! I planted over 1500 this year and and augur helped so.much help!! I think the 3 inch 12 inch is perfect!! I am in Michigan and need to plant a few more. Lol
I’m definitely going to be getting the 3 inch. This will definitely come in handy for my bulbs, my mostly for my plants! That’s awesome!
Thank you so much for sharing 💜🤗
Can you give us a update on the weeping spruce pendula that you planted a few years ago?
this is a game changer! My soil is hard clay and while I've been working on softening it up a bit, this would help A LOT, particularly for the larger bushes I want to plant next summer!
Upvoting you. I live in Portland, and my soil is like solid moist clay. I tried to use the Power Planter 3"x12" auger with Dewalt 20v drill on the settings Laura (and Power Planter recommend) for tulip bulb planting, but it was near impossible. I didn't hit rocks, but the clay itself just hugged the auger completely! When we lifted the drill up, the auger was covered in solid clumps of moist clay. You can poke them off with a finger, but then you keep having to do this multiple times for just one hole to get down to 6"-8". We gave up and did the trench method with a shovel, which was...painful but quicker. We backfilled with bagged top soil, and since we did the trench method, we ended up needing much more top soil than we would have if the auger had worked. I hope Laura can please comment on clay+augers in the Monday video review video! Would a 60v drill get the job done? Do we need dry clay for this to work?
That's the most beautiful rock-free soil I've ever seen!
Looks like I'll be investing in an auger. Just got done planting 150 bulbs using a hand bulb planter, and trench method and my body is feeling it! Thanks for sharing such in depth information. Always look forward to your videos!
I bought the 3x12 after watching your bulb planting video. Love it! Now I need to get the larger one for my husband. It will make post hole digging a breeze. Thank you for all you do! -Former non-gardener
Love this video! You took the fear right out of “using power tools” in the garden! I feel confident that I can handle an auger/drill with no problems...Thanks!
I cant thank you enough. I never knew of augers until now. It has changed my life. I do our garden and flower bed (for the wifey as she loves this stuff and i love seeing her happy). However with injuries and previous surgeries from my time in the army doing it by hand and the ups and down would kill me. I literally would be bed ridden for a few days. After finding your videos (which i love) it change my whole approach and tools used. So thank you, my back, and the rest of me thanks you. :) hope you and the hubby have a wonderful day.
These Augers make a great tool for premixing plant food and combining soil in a container before adding to plants, it's like a portable blender.
So glad your planting chores will be easier for you moving forward. You are hard workers with a large property so happy to realize just how much this will help you guys. Fantastic.😳👍
The "vertical rototiller"! Great for getting through hard-pan. Love it!
I too can no longer handle digging with a shovel unless the soil is like powder! As I am in my 70s, I am learning how to use an auger and need to go look for the handle. I’m hoping Santa will bring me a Dewalt drill for Christmas! One is never too old to learn and being a retired teacher, I am an eager learner who loves and learns from your excellent videos. Thanks to you and Aaron and may you have a wonderful Thanksgiving🍗
I just got a bunch of irises from a friend one of these will definitely come in handy 😁
Thank you!!! I'm close to 66 years old and I still plant tons of bulbs every fall (by hand). Last year I told myself that's it! No more bulbs! Hmmm now I'm planning a hugh Colorblend haul so thanks again, it wouldn't be fall without planting bulbs.
Very helpful never used a auger till this year to plant bulbs so much easier thank you!
This is the perfect video for me! I've had my neck and lower back fused making tasks like digging a challenge. I've used a drill but not an auger. I like how you reviewed all the various sizes of both augers and drills so I could know which is the one for me. I'll need to be on my knees as bending at the waist like you did isn't good for lower backs. Thanks Laura and Aaron, I'll be adding to my Xmas wish list!
I love this idea! Not sure why I only thought about using my auger for bulbs. After watching your video I pulled out my 2" auger and quickly made perfect size holes for all my fall vegetable transplants. Wow, so much easier! Thanks for sharing and showing the comparisons Laura 🙂
I do love how it crumbles up the soil. Like chocolate cake mix. I just have a lot of roots and rocks in my clay soil so I don’t know how well it would work for me.
I have a lot of rocks and clay soil too. This brand is the only one that will work, and I did end up getting one of the heavy duty one that doesn't bog down or break when hitting rocks. Just go really slowly, wiggle it around a bit, and if you hit a rock bigger than you can move with the auger just move over a bit and try again. That worked for me at least. I did end up using my spade to dig out a couple of rocks b/c I did not want to move over, but the soil had been loosened enough so that was easy, too.
bonitadc3 good to know, thanks!
Thank you, I always wondered about the augers and drills and how to use them. This was very helpful.
Outstanding video presentation! Thorough, articulate, insightful, efficient, concise. Game changer! Thank you!
Thank you for demonstrating how to use garden auger bits. I fed two magnolia trees today in a matter of minutes thanks to you. I bought a drill with a handle as you suggested. I’m so glad that I did because my wrist would have been toast were it not for the drill handle. Your videos are so helpful.
Love, Love, Love my PowerPlanter Auger. Bought it last year due to Inspiration from you. I now like planting bulbs. 🥰🥰🥰 I just have to be careful because because we have heavy clay soil. I don't have a handle so I just have to let go. I have a CHEAP Drill so I don't think it has any numbers, just forward, backwards and on, off. 🤪
I got the three inch one. It helps a lot. I’m 71. And it’s getting hard to bend over to plant 130 bulbs 🤗
how did you protect your wrists from injury? we have hard clay/rocks.
We do too. I am hoping the side handle on the drill, will help
Well, this did it for me. We have about 175 bulbs that I'm planting this weekend. My husband was going to dig trenches for me. This changes everything. I just bought the 3" in the link. I told my husband that if Laura says it's good, I feel confident it is. Another really informative video. Thank you Laura and Garden Answer!!
Ha! That was my plan, too. But Mother Nature had other plans. Here in Minnesota, our ground is already frozen. I'm going to try pouring hot water on it so I can plant the last 5 bulbs of that kind.
I have a bag of 100 bulbs that I'll be forcing in large planters. Doh!
I bought a 3" & 2'long auger & it worked so great for me. One of the most helpful tools I've bought. Great video. Thanks so much.
Great Video as always. The circle of box woods in the back ground have grown so much. I remember watching the video of you planting them and them being so tiny. Xx
Was about to dig 5 holes for a buxus hedge. Too lazy to dig, which is what brought me here! Thanks!
I’m sold on using an auger. After your bulb video where you used it, I bought one and planted a couple of hundred bulbs in just a couple of hours. And then planted some hydrangea bushes too. Thank you!!!
Great demo, very helpful. Thanks Laura! 😊
awesome!!!! ordered around 200 bulbs myself for spring so was just telling hubby i needed an auger!! i'll have him watch this video so we can make sure i'm all set up... this was very informative!! and more power tools in the garden: it's a good thing!!!
I was out in the yard planting bulbs w/ an auger today! Because I am disabled I went out & got one this year. It def helped!!!
I love watching your videos! You have inspired me, a non gardener to get out in the yard and start planting! All your videos are so educational and helpful and I want to thank you and your husband for inspiring me and my family.
I plan on planting a ton of bulbs in heavy hard clay soil! I got the 3” X 12” after seeing you use one and I can’t wait to try it! I wish I saw it sooner I planted a ton this summer and being older it took its tole on me! Thank you for all of the good tips you provide you are awesome! ❤️
Pat-how did it work for you in clay? I have the same situation.
I usually buy 6 packs of flowers for annuals. I have been using an auger for years. A good drill is very important though. Makes the work so fast and easy.
Guess what someone's getting for Christmas!!! Glad this video came out cause I've been wondering if there was a big enough one for gallon size pots..I'm always bringing home plants and having to dig a hole isn't the fun part!
I live on a standard size block in Melbourne Australia and bought one of these last year. Omg I can't say how easy it was to plant my plants including 300 bulbs (not enough bulbs!)
Power Planter in Australia were really good, I highly recommend them.
Thanks for this video.
I’m so excited for this coming year in GA and can’t wait to see what you guys have up your sleeves!
Wow, thank you Laura, very informative demonstration 💜👍 so helpful. Take care and God Bless, Chris-Raleigh NC
YAAAASSSSS😄 this is exactly what I needed to see! I’ve been looking into augers because I wanted bigger holes for pots now I feel much more confident into making the investment! Thanks girlfriend ! LOL👍🏼
I am new to gardening and am slowly growing a green thumb. 😁 I never heard of an Augur! I am so excited to find this video. What a great way to plant this next spring. My husband is rolling his eyes. 🙄 He is the guy with the garage full of tools. He suggested we become partners in this project. Including him in my planting (with a new Augur) wasn't in the plan, but I guess I can adjust. It will definitely cut down on planting time. 🤣🤣🤣‼️ What a great informational video. Love your channel. Thank you!!!
This is exactly what I was wondering! I'm disabled and just can't dig by hand repeatedly. Im getting my boyfriend to help and this will really work for us (him). I think that large auger would be great for digging holes for fence posts too. Thank you for another informative video!
Good Morning
Perfect timing for me to learn about these.. I am needing to get a drill said now I feel much more knowledgeable..
I was going to dread digging holes for each bulb..🌷🌷🌷
Thanks for Everything
Lots of Love
you guys have a Great Weekend

Amazing tool...Didn’t know digging hole electronically exist. Very helpful video. Thanks for sharing.
This is excellent insight for all of us, and especially the information about a drill's speed adjustment and the clutch. As a 66 year old gardener I think the auger method will be an improvement for me, even if I am not planting quantities as large as the ones you plant. Thanks so much, again, for enhancing my gardening hobby with your good 'tutorials'. It is a delight to share the gardening experience with you.
You do not look 66.
I'm 63. My grandparents didn't look like us when they turned 64, when the Beatles song came out. Ha!
Just found this video. I really appreciate this information as I have been wondering which to try. Thanks, Laura. Loving Ruselll! God bless you and your precious family.
Laura, you always have such good information for us gardeners. I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experiences. Thank you!
Coffee with Laura and the 411 on augers and drills, such good information!!!!! One of the smaller ones may be a good investment for my work place as we do plant a fair amount and it would help with how fast we can do things and who can dig the hole. I feel like any one can use the drill set up so thank you for all the choices and specific information!!
You are more informative than a Home Depot or Lowes representative!!! I loved your video. I'm building a covered garden in the back yard and the auger drill bits will definitely be helpful. I want to plant flowering bushes in the front yard as well. You have been very helpful. Your property looks great. Thanks!
I have a 3" x 24" auger I used with a electric hammer drill and used it to install a flagpole, so far so good.
I bought these after seeing you use them in a more recent video and it has made transplanting seedlings so much easier! We bought a house last fall and these have made planting out new bushes, bulbs, and even garden seedlings SO much easier!
@gardenanswer I planted three flats of tall garden phlox, dianthus, and 400+ bulbs with my 3” auger. It really does make planting so easy and enjoyable because it goes so quick!!
Thats great News. Really is a Power Planter...Be great for our place in Canary islands where soil is very dry and volcanic type. Normally digging a hole is back breaking work, normal i would scratch a little hole, fill it with water , then 20 mins later dig littke again. Etc . So hard work..But with Power planter , will make planting my 7g queens and royal palms very easy land my Tecoma Stans and Bougainvillea plants etc.. .Thank you so much, for helping so many people , with different ways of gardening X
I liked this video Laura. I have been thinking about an easier way to dig holes, getting older here, so this was spot on for me! I love your content!
Thank you so much for this video, I am hoping to get a small auger for our handheld drill and I don't want to injure myself in the process, this is very helpful. Thank you. x
Great demo! I love how you showed so many details of the tools and of the uses. I'm really happy for you, that they'll save you from so much bending in the future!!!
Love your presentations, honest and real ! Thank you🌸
Glad you mentioned the point of the costly augers and that gear reduction drill may not make sense for some people. Last summer I picked up a small augur for tree spikes or to pour granular down the hole and pack it with black kow manure. Recently planted fifteen fruit trees and four grape vines.
Thank you so much. This is the most professional and educational presentation i have seen. You cover every aspect of purchasing and working with augers Thank you again!!
