It’s a shame how underrated Dennis Christopher is nowadays. I love him in this film (not to mention that Breaking Away is just fantastic in general), Stephen King’s It, etc. He is truly great, and I wish people appreciated him more.
This was the very first scene shot with Dennis Christopher, a day or two into the Student Union location shooting, September 1978. I was 5 or 6 feet away from these two at this moment. Unforgettable, certainly.
Released in '79 and five years after I had ridden my 10-speed to Tahoe (up Highway 50!) with two friends from Walnut Creek (SF East Bay) and back... this movie dominated what America was everywhere then.
A lot of people here don’t seem to realise that Cyril was played by Daniel Stern (in his first ever film role). 11 years later (1990), he would achieve worldwide fame as ‘Marv Merchants’ in Home Alone 1+2. It’s sad how he ended up being typecast as a goofball as a result and had trouble finding work afterwards.
I don't know, he played a pretty serious, although light hearted role on "Blue Thunder". And in "Hannah and Her Sisters" he played a "cool guy". Still, he plays the goof really, really well and I think he likes it.
the cutters still have a legacy today. thats the name of the local soccer club iirc. pretty cool how this movie shows that dynamic between the locals and the college kids.
Hart Bochner, the guy in the pink shirt, later was the sleazy sales guy on "Die Hard" who would try to BS his way out of being a hostage by helping the crooks and gets shot, thankfully, for his efforts!
One can say that here's a clash of social classes in this movie scene. The working class cutters fighting with the college kids who are probably from an affluent background.
Excelente serie a finales de los años ochenta e inició de los noventa juvenil, romántica inspiradora, motivadora, que pudiera decir lo mejor en aquellos momentos de juventud.
I think the bowling ball was supposed to go through the plain glass pane next to the stained glass pane it did. The spot with the plain pane always had a stained glass pane just like the ones flanking it. It would make sense to replace the older, more expensive stained glass pane with a plain one and edit the bowling ball going through it tightly enough that the difference isn't as noticeable. That or that stained glass pane got shattered in a previous take and they had no time to get a suitable replacement.
+David Neal The stained glass panel was fake- it took several takes for Dan Stern to hit the glass adequately. I think it was three takes and two fake stained glass panels to get the fake bowling ball cleanly through. I was there, briefly visible, and the very first footage shot of Breaking Away August 1978.
@Richard Blake This is the first scene that Dennis Christopher did in the film, arriving later than some of the cast- he'd just flown in that day. I was about six feet from these two.
Brunette is dark brown. Dennis Quaid is hardly someone with dark brown hair. Hart Bochner is brunette. Either way, the OP is most likely describing Dennis Christopher.

Me too, he's a fantastic actor.

The bowling ball really makes this fight scene amazing, chaotic and hilarious!

He did the voice over of the grown up Kevin on the Wonder Years for as long as the show ran - not a bad gig.
@@MarkMazut I didn't know that. Cool factoid!!!
Check out his work in City Slickers.... Outstanding!!
love this movie especially the class differences between town is and spoiled rich college kids
Me to sort like the out siders

Townies?
Jackie Earle Haley has been good in everything I’ve seen him in. Which to be fair isn’t much but I’ve liked it all. lol

One of THE BEST movies ever made.
Super deep movie and looked to be a simple budget. 4 stars all the way
Sergeant Taggart from Beverly Hills Cop @1:43
Also Keith's dad in Some Kind of Wonderful lol
Thank God for Sergeant Taggert at 1:43.
I've met him before. Nice guy.
I always thought of myself as a Cutter ...still do
What exactly is a cutter?
I didn't see the movie lol.
@@prayingmantis6777 Cutter refers to cutting rock in the quarries, which all their fathers had done for a living.
Home alone guy looked like a kid back then.
He was in a movie called Coupe DeVille that was pretty good.
He was , pretty much. lol
Well he was. 🤣
It was actually his film debut
His Daniel stern very underrated actor crazy to think he was about in his late teens here…11 years later he playing a villian in home alone
Hart Bochner, the guy in the pink shirt, later was the sleazy sales guy on "Die Hard" who would try to BS his way out of being a hostage by helping the crooks and gets shot, thankfully, for his efforts!
omgg that’s insane
Hart Boehner was good in Apartment Zero as the psychopathic mercenary
Yeah i remember hart from a few other things in the 80s. :)
@@danieljones8876That movie is whackadoodle!
A year later he played the unsympathetic med student Doc in Terror Train.
Mike's look when the guy calls Moocher "shorty". It's just a quick glance. But he knows in that instant that all hell is going to break loose!
Mooch ruled with the Wash cloth fist, Cyril with the bowling 🎳 ball and Mike with his quarterback tactics.
😂
Damn Marv sure knew karate back when he was young lol
Thanks God there"s no french fries and boiling oil
Don't mess with Rorshach, you know
This is where Rorschach got his early training!
Should have called Rorschach “shorty” in Watchmen. JEH is 5 feet 5 inches tall. It’s also my height.

0:55 Smart move Shorty!
1:46-1:47 Best."must-clean-up-room-on Sunday night" motivational scene ever.
In addition to first 3 minutes of 'In The Light".

Great film !

Ah, the imu. Been there several times.
It's great that they really filmed it at the IMU instead of some phony set. The IMU is what comes to my mind anytime someone mentions Indiana
Cyrils big scene
Meanwhile Dave was with that girl the whole time
1:21 Was that a shadow or did he shit himself?

Always wished there could be a reunion movie while all the main characters are still alive.
I cannot imagine that being satisfying in any way.
Wheelchair race at the nursing home? Just kidding. Jackie Earl Haley is younger than I am.
