    😀 About VideoShowMeHow
    -----------------------------------------------
    ⏩ What's with the gloves?
Not after any RUclips fame here which is why I'm not in the vids - they're not about me they're about the how-to! I used the gloves for the first couple of projects I filmed which just happened to be messy ones and it kinda just became a thing - easy to spot my videos! If that's not your thing and you'd prefer to watch a face, all good, I won't be offended, there's plenty of better looking ones to watch already on RUclips ;)
    ⏩ Where did this start?
I really enjoy tinkering with different projects - they usually require a whole bunch of research and learning along the way. It's satisfying on doing a thing and standing back and going 'Yeah! Totally did that!'. I had a bunch of mates asking 'how did you know how to do that?' and 'I couldn't never do that myself so I thought; I need to start something where I can help others that might be thinking the same thing :)
⏩ What will you find here?
The purpose is simply to make these videos as top quality and helpful as I can. They will always be free, there's ZERO agenda and the only motive is to try and upload what I would want to watch to help with that particular project. I'm also keen to keep building this little community and will try to answer all questions when asked - fire away :)

Thanks!! I replied to the 3rd video of yours on rivnuts.. I don't think I'll be able to use the tool.. Your videos on how to use wrenches will probably work better for me. I don't have much arm strength to squeeze the tool. Not to mention there's not much room to get the tool in where I need to put the rivnut in.

You'll use this tool more than you think. Suggestion - do a test insert on a scrap piece so you can see how much pull is needed to set the insert. Especially on smaller sizes. Otherwise you can snap the mandrel with too much pull. You never pull handles enough to touch each other.

One commenter asked how you know how much stroke to use and you replied that you use a two-step process to not overdo it, which is fine. The tool I received came with pretty understandable instructions and a chart that lets you determine based on rivnut size and thickness of the metal you have, how much travel you should look for using the gauge in millimeters of travel. This allows you to get the right amount of "crush" without underdoing it (spinning rivnuts) or overdoing it and possibly breaking the mandrel/die.

It's like the Molle military nylon straps for sheet metal :D Your video was the most informative and straight forward out of the few I watched. Very helpful and gave me the confidence to put my first rivnut I ever did right in the A-pillar of my 21+ year owned truck I love dearly :) I'm mechanically capable and I'm an engineer so that helped a lot but still, ballsy but no sweat with your instructions :) Thank You again!

Excellent video, thanks for that. The turny twisty thingy that releases the bolt was cool as well, I couldn't work out how to get the tool off one the nutsert was in.
Project- I'm remounting the hatch/cover for a water tank on a narrow boat (UK)- it had bots welded underneath the plate, but they have corroded and half have disappeared. So I'm going to grind off what rests & use nutserts instead.

I have everything done, now time for the threaded insert. But, I don't want the insert to spin. And so I don't know if I need a specific type of insert made of Aluminum Brass or Steel?
On RUclips to hopefully find what insert type can I use so I can torque to bolt to roughly 10ft/lbs without spinning it on this sheet metal?
      Thank you

Previous owner of my classic mini used self tappers for the arches... I'm also here for upgrades. These nutserts will definitely cope with 10 ft/lbs, use a steel one but only if you buy the beefier rivet tool like this one shown (steel rivnuts + the one handed tool will be a bad time)

Probably the best video on RUclips, showing how to install Rivnuts!! The only thing I would add; the small one hand install tool is great for the smaller sized Rivnuts, where all that torque isn't required. You can use the large tool, that you did, for all sizes, *if you're careful. Its very easy to break the smaller mandrel or dies with all that leverage.

How about describing the feeling of how you know when the rivet nut is tight enough. Very rarely do we have the opportunity to see the other side to look at the back of the rivet nut. I was just doing this and for some reason I had to keep on tightening the “handily turntable thing“ that you were talking about for the rivet nut to grab. How about explaining that; where it’s supposed to be at the start of the operation.

I needed to drill out a hole on my jeep fender to install one of these inserts for an arb twin air compressor. Someone used this tool in stead an I assume put in the wrong size insert. It was not the one supplied by arb. So after putting in the screw he also supplied, it screwed in maybe a quarter of the way and the insert turned with the screw. I could get the screw out as everything turns together. I dremeled the head off the screw so I could uninstall the compressor bracket. How do I remove the insert and the headless screw?

will a rivnut hold as well as a nut and washer would? I'm concerned about the rivnut popping out in a high stress attachment

I was hoping you would touch on yow to adjust the plunge/stroke depth on this tool. Thats what the little gauge on the bottom is for. Its possible to damage the rivet nuts themselves if you dont have this setup properly and you pull beyond the crush capacity of the inserted riv nut thereby essentially rendering that installed nut useless bc the threads have been destroyed

Yes you're correct, I usually just tread right down with the tool at max open, then insert full close, open 1/2 twist, compress again and perfect every time 👍 If you go too far it pulls the whole cylinder out of whack to the point you can't thread anything as you say

Thank you for the clear video. I purchased the same tool, however the die that I used are very easily bent causing al consequent rivet nuts to crooked. Any idea why this happens and how I can prevent it. I did make sure that the rivet nuts I use are suitable for the thickness of the material. Thanks in advance for you're reply!

    Hey Adam,
Thanks for all your videos, they're brilliant!
    Got a question regarding rivnuts...
Would they be suitable to fix down a fridge slide and a potable battery dock in the back of the tub?
I do a bit of 4x4ing, no crazy stuff, just getting from A to B.
They seem like the best and easiest fixing option.
    Cheers
    Ben

Hey Ben, you could however would consider - are you going into a tub liner or the tub itself? Tub itself would be fine at a couple of points, tub liner may not be the strongest to hold with 4x4.. Also if tub liner just remember you'd have the back part of the rivnuts potentially scratching up your actual tub

      @@VideoShowMeHow thanks for info mate,
Yeah have tub liner, I was thinking of cutting it out where fixings/ bractets will go, then semi try to make it neat and seal up again.
I'll have to have a plan and think.

After I saw your video, I bought a rivetnut tool, yato brand, it haven't arrive yet, but I was wondering how thick or thin should be the sheet plate in order to insert a rivet nut properly? I suppose it can't be too thick/thin. What do you think? Thanks.

It really depends on the application and rivnuts themselves. I've used on a couple mm to 5-6 mm

Rivnuts do work on curved surfaces, have a look at any bicycle, they are used for accessories like drink bottle holders. Good explanation however I just used two M6 rivnuts on my bike after watching.

Great video. I'm curious if these would work in materials when the nutzert doesn't protrude out the other end, like for instance embedding it in a 2x4 piece of wood. Would it still crush and expand into the wood or would it just smash and not grab. Have you tried this?

Thanks Lee 👍 I haven't may be worth a shot my bets would be on it not being that effective though. If you're after a thread in timber you can use t nuts, have used these before to good effect. Hope this helps!
