Literally you can't be a muslim and not believe in jesus as a prophet
Yes, there is basically an entire surah in the Quran dedicated to him( Surah Maryam)
He never said he doesn't believe Jesus was a prophet, Reza Aslan dosen't talk as a Muslim he talks as someone who has a PHD in religions , otherwise Patrick Bet-David and the other Christian man next to Reza Aslan will cry
If I was Satan, I would also mix truths with lies, it’s the ultimate deception.
It's better to belive in disgusting war mongering child molester Mohammed.
Issa is not Jesus..... it's crazy to think that GOD would send"another prophet " to discredit the greatest prophet before him. Do your research followers of CHRIST is different from nasara
A Muslim can't be a Muslim without believing in Jesus,Moses, Abraham,Adam etc.
We believe in the miraculous birth of Jesus. We believe in the second coming of Jesus. This man is actually an atheist.
All of that is made up btw.
@@maccusmc Are you an atheist?

@@maccusmc Do you believe in good and evil? Who determines what is right or wrong?
@@supakhan23 good and evil is subjective to the individual. Which is why good and evil is debated ask the time. One person's freedom fighter is another person's terrorist.
The reasons we seem to have mutual agreement on what is good and evil is because we all evolved as a species with the same wants and needs which was based on our survival.
This man doesn’t represent Islam or Muslims. Thanks Pat for highlighting that

I thought he did a great job of explaining his beliefs. We just aren’t used to hearing non-literalist religious perspectives.
He explained himself clearly and concisely, if you don't understand what he's trying to say then you should study more about world religions. It is true once you start reading into other religions you start to see that there are so many similarities. It makes it clear that whatever we identify as is a cultural designation of a world wide spiritualism that's common among all human beings.
@@AmericanReconstruction You're also good at using words to confuse. And you demean people. I hope you find Jesus.
He is a “Jordan Peterson Lite”
How does PBD expose Reza Aslan? Reza Aslan has a unitary perception of religion; he sees the good and bad in all. Everyone is inside a box and Reza Aslan is at looking into those boxes, but not going inside a box. PBD is insinuating that you must join something in order to be a part of it. Reza is basically saying that he's an ethnic Muslim, but not a practicing Muslim. Likewise most Americans say they are Christian but don't go to Church or read the Bible. People say things to be a part of a specific group as a form of identity.
He is basically a Postmodern Perenialist
you cant be a ethnic muslim. islam is not a race religon. just because his parents were muslim doesnt mean hes automatically a muslim, it doesnt work like that. his beliefs goes against the teaching of islam. PDB expose reza aslan by saying he is more of an atheist than a muslim
There is no such thing as “ethnic muslim”. Islam is a belief, not an ethnicity. If you knowingly don’t believe, you aren’t a muslim & you are condemned to eternal hellfire.
PBD is right in how Reza is preaching. He seems more as a atheist or agnostic rather than a muslim. Once did he not talk about quranic verses and not once Hadiths (Sayings from the prophet that is Authenticated through chains of narrations)
Patrick Bet-David is emotional he believes in Christianty because he's Armenian and Assyrian his ancestors being Christian for the last 1700 years he's not interested in facts, and he was so butthurt because Reza Aslan didn't give him a reason to bring up Islam , Reza Aslan has a PHD in religions he talks as that he's not biased
Exactly he didn't quote any quran or the bible versus for that matter, all his opinions without any regard for the text teaching, he's following his desires and not any religion.
I think because he believes in Quran but not all interpretation of Quran by many people. He wants to interpret it himself.
Imagine attacking one of the few people who make your barbaric excuse of a religion look half decent lmao
@@alwaysright3943 well people who doesn't understand anything about islam like yourself would say that, maybe because you listen to people like reza for a representation of islam.
Does he hear himself when he speaks😂
PBD is talking about fundamentalist, exoteric religion. Reza is talking about mystic, esoteric religion.
Reza’s reasoning doesn’t sound like the ideology of Islam. Rather it seems he wants represent himself as a Muslim only to introduce new ideas to its adherents
@astracruiser4211 a way of life and ideology are not mutually exclusive bro. Also you seem to be making a somewhat aggressive response to a lukewarm observation. Doesn’t seem warranted. This is not the method of communication prescribed in Islam
💯
Get Firas Zahabi on the show.
Firas zahabi is a clown.
When someone says all religions are essentially saying the same exact thing, you know they don't know what they are talking about.
He understands that there's value in religion. Reza is just not an idiot like all you ppl who take everything literally or reject everything all together. It's important to take wisdom from multiple sources...
I found his smugness to be a huge turn off, he is so sure of himself. I am not even religeuos but the resentment in his voice when he talks about christianity is alarming. Reza seems like someone I wouldn't want to be around.
Agree
Why? Just because he’s making assertions about his world views? That’s very narrow minded. He’s a research scholar and he’s expounding on his findings and perspective on religion as a whole. Academia has this style of dialogue which allows you to explore alternative ideas and challenges one’s position on things. His “smugness” is actually just his confidence about his ideas.
The same critique can be given to Patrick. He makes incredibly outlandish comments and quite frankly is mistaken on things but he still is pompous about his stance. So is he now smug also?
@@tmmmohseni2560 He is smug because he is arrogant. He openly admits that he is a muslim as well so there is an obvious conflict there. He is an activist. His confidence is his ignorance showing.

“it is not you that they deny, but it is the Verses (the Quran) of Allah that the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers) deny.” [al-An’am 6:33. English translation of meaning].
This guy has denied believing in the Quran. He does not represent Islam at all. To be a Muslim, you must believe in the ayat of Allah. If you disbelieve, it makes you a kafir even if you claim to be Muslim. This is clear in the Quran.

"There were witnesses with Jesus' resurrection and those witnesses were willing to die for their faith."
Yeh, and that isn't AT ALL a mythical story... 🤦♂
Fact check: no, there's A STORY telling there were witnesses, there are no actual witness. There's A STORY telling that. Not at all different than mythra or the hundreds thousands other stories people have invented in history.
You, are the definition of cognitive dissonance. And very funny, but that's a me thing.
Everybody, I will give you the definition of a person like Reza Aslan
He is an Ecumenic Theologian.
He basically believes that all religions lead to the same underlying truth and the apparent differences between them is nothing more then symbology and metaphors that dont have any truth or validity in it of themselves, only the truth that those symbols and metaphors lead is true.
It's a very ecumenic and universal way to understand your faith. Simple, yet risky.
So then he believes none of them lol
Right, isn't also called Universalism? Too wishy-washy for me, but at least he admits there is something beyond the physical realm.
What he believes in falls more in the line of New Age spirituality. Where all roads basically lead to the same place, but you gotta do the work regardless of which path you choose in order to grow spirituality and reach a higher state of consciousness (what chirstians and the bible would call "develop your salvation")
Universalism is different, it's basically the belief that there is no condemnation for your actions. In other words, everyone will ultimately be saved and there is no hell.
As Muslims we do believe in Jesus, Moses and Mohamed peace be upon them as prophets and each of them was given scriptures such as Torah, Bible and the Quran. I would recommend PBD to interview Mohammed Hijab!
Reza Aslan did a poor job on to communicate what Islam is and what islam stands for.
You guys really think he follows Islam. He is an Atheist or better put Agnostic, he just uses religion to grift, he claims to be a religious scholar but has no pedigree in it, go check his records, years ago he was exposed to be lying about his qualifications.
Reza is a hard leftist Sufi. He doesn’t follow conventional dogma or commandments. He doesn’t adhere to orthodox Islam. The guy peddles with Hilary Clinton for gods sake.
PBD would never invite Muhammad hijab, cause he knows he’d get tossed around and make a fool of himself. He’s very ignorant of Islam due to his Assyrian and Armenian biases which are infused in him from his childhood.

Dudes insane lol. So much contradiction and misunderstanding in him
I don't think he is insane. I think he was a competent academic whose career took a path in which being an atheist would wipe out his livelihood. He is undoubtedly smart and knowledgeable about the various religions, but imo he lost his faith at some point earlier in his life and dishonestly hides the fact by packaging his take on religion like he describes in this video.
@@chrisbirch4150 that could be true but 100 percent isn’t competent or even close to understanding Christianity. It’s definitely not something you learn at Bible college or any school. (That I’ve seen yet anyway, although I do hope there is a legit college that has Christianity right).
Just based off this video he doesn’t even understand atheism either
You guys talk like you know better. Which is very amusing.
@@aglassofwhitewata8759 not particularly. I am conceding that Resa Aslan is smarter and more knowledgeable than I will ever be. I am simply saying that his professional career and public persona would be damaged if he were to reveal how little he actually believes. So he plays the game with this ambiguous multifaith belief system which doesn't really count for much once you narrow the elements downs. It's just my opinion. Call it faith
It’s not as hard as people think. If they would leave out christianity it would make much more sense.
When it comes to religions it will always start with presumptions and faith especially atheism.
Truth by definition is exclusive which means there is no contradiction in it.
Once someone understands Christianity they never leave and that’s a fact.
It is the only religion that corresponds to what is real and line up with our 5 senses

So I agree there is no such thing as Muslim or Christian we all have our tailor made faiths. It is one thing to sin but still believe in Islam and ADMIT your sin and it is another to twist and disbelieve in the ayat of Allah. The latter leads to an eternity in Hell while the former does not. Even if a Muslim sinner is punished, he is guaranteed paradise at the end. A person who rejects the Quran is not.
Reza in effect said, "please do not put me in a box of 'religion', because I am a believer in something from Someone Greater, but I do not identify with any One GOD."
That is Ba'hai or Universal Unitarianism, which are both identifiers that have specific humanistic and spiritual guidelines, doctrines, and statements of faith.

_”Christianity is whatever a Christian says it is…”_
Exactly!! This is why I assert, there’s no such thing as a fake Christian. The Bible along with most Christian church leaders instructs believers to _”look to Jesus, the author and finisher of their faith,”_ and _”Jesus is the head of the body and the church.”_
The problem here is the post resurrection Jesus doesn’t exist. The Holy Spirit is imaginary. There is no divine authority who defines what is a “true” or “false” Christian. Thus, Christianity is open-source religion. Everyone is free to make Bible verses mean whatever they need them to mean.
*Q:* Who’s to say I’m a false Christian?
*A:* Voddie Baucham, John MacArthur, and Paul Washer.
*Q:* Who’s their authority?
*A:* John Calvin, Matthew, Peter, James, Paul, the Bible, etc.
*Q:* Who’s their authority?
*A:* Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
*Q:* What demonstrable evidence do any of these sources have that proves Jesus Christ and the Holy spirit are real?
*A:* None! Zeros all the way across the score board!!
O People of the Book! Do not go to extremes regarding your faith; say nothing about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, was no more than a messenger of Allah and the fulfilment of His Word through Mary and a spirit created by a command from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers and do not say, “Trinity.” Stop!-for your own good. Allah is only One God. Glory be to Him! He is far above having a son! Also, I find it a bit arrogant to say that when you do yoga, or pray or surf you claim to have had an experience or that you communicated with the "beyond", the non-physical realm.
Reza shows his ignorance about the religions. They are not all the same.
13:30 Reza Aslan: "That is what God is, it's not a THING, it's a word, like all words it has a thousands connotations, it represents a bunch of THINGS but in the simplest form let's just say what we mean when we say God, is that which is beyond the material world, THE THING."- So it's just a word it's not a thing but in the end it's a thing!
There's already a word for "not a thing" and It's "nothing". Reza is just waffling and he doesn't seem to believe in anything. He's just an athiest with extra steps
My guy Reza over there thinks you should pick a religion for yourself literally same way you go to the candy shop and then pick the candy that tastes/looks best to you. Epic logic from epic intellectual lol
Yet he wasn’t the one who proposed which religion would you pick if you were to start a country …
What an adolescent interpretation of Rezas words -Reza is not equating God to candy
@@naimkozi3767 no he views it as dif types of shrooms. This kind gave me this transcendent experience vs this type. Religion to him is just another way to explain this person’s interaction with the Devine. For him it’s all about the experience for the person and dif religions are dif ppl explaining dif experiences. So for him there’s something beyond that affects all people from all religions from the same place. To him any religion leads to the same place as the others- “take your pick”
PBD gained his success in the America and he believes western society with their beliefs are the right way.
A lot of people are totally missing his point. He doesn’t view religion as a literally true/literally false dichotomy. Pat keeps trying to put him back in the box that if you don’t uphold the factual accuracy of supernatural events thousands of years ago, you’re automatically an atheist.
Islam is not as confusing as he is making it’s. It strict many many rules and that’s why I love it. It’s a guidebook from how to dress, diet etc. we Muslims like the clear rules. He is all over the place.
@@aminahmad2595 strict??? Wahabi yes. Not the true islam from prophet muhammad
Amazing apology about the well.
Can we get Muhammad Hijab on the Show please ? Would be a great chat
Is that the guy that was singing to Jordan Peterson to try to make him convert😂
Please tell me you have better representatives
I think Hamza Yusuf will be great as well
Yo what, if you don't believe the way Jesus was born how can you say that you believe in Islam. Who this guy? Where Muhammad Hijab at?
He believes in "do what thou wilt"
99% of Muslims do not share this view of religion with Reza.
Surprisingly brilliant answers from Reza. I'd love to read his work further. I'm an atheist, but I want to understand religions and the religious.
Not brilliant. Sophistry.
If you wanna read his works youll end up knowing less than you did before :P
And im a muslim.
Better to read the scriptures directly with an open heart and mind with a willingness to learn from it
Start with the quran
I tried reading the Quran, and it's constantly repeating "God is great and worship him" on every single page.
I want an anthropological account of Islam. @@faizanalvi3932
I'm an atheist as well and I respect Rezas take on this issue
Reza is not a muslim based on what he said
There is no such thing as forced belief. There is only forced pretending of a belief you actually don't believe.
Excellent observation
Ooor people who realize that a single religion doesn't have all the answers
This was really good. I hope a lot of Muslims watch this clip. I didn’t like Reza Aslan much but I have more respect for him now.
His experience with God is just Chemicals in your brain
Mind is immaterial and exist outside of the brain.
Islam is the continuation of the true Judaism and Christianity - Its the seal of religions . Its the natural choice
I think Patrick has always tried to hide his dislike of Islam, I think it's from his childhood trauma in Iran
The political problems of the Middle East originated when Turkey abolished the khilafah, which was the religious office of Islam.
I have not been a fan of this man, but all the clips I have seen from this conversation were wonderful. I feel like Reza expressed an enlightened position, faith is expressed subjectively.
Truth is expressed objectivity
If it's arbitrary, then faith is meaningless because at that point, you are creating your own God/idles.
Reza: "God is not a thing"
Few seconds later he describes God as "this thing"
Dude, do you even know that there's already a word that describes "not a thing" and the word is "nothing"
This guy is basically an athiest. He's as much of a Muslim as Jordan Peterson is a Christian
Can you guys actually bring a traditional Muslim next time. Those liberal "religious" people are just waffling
Anyone that has studied theology would agree with Reza. Reza doesn’t sound like an Atheist at all. He sounds like like a Catholic priest. Problem is that Pat uses Christianity to get points with Republicans. It clear as day that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. As a lifelong Christian this was hard to watch.
Yeah definitely ...he's virtue signaling!
Glad someone else had the guts to say it. I think a lot of us are grateful to PBD for his work but genuinely confused with how such a sharp guy can sometimes barely grasp/accept nuance
To say all religions are basically preaching the same thing is just incorrect. It proves he has either chosen to over simplify things for his own ends, or he just hasn't done enough research. The major religions of the world say very different things, make no mistake.
Reza is super smart in communicating and expressing his ideas
In the 6 pillars of faith in Islam believing in the Qur'an is amongst those 6 pillars, so if you don't believe in that then how do you call yourself Islam.
Pls interview Daniel Haqaitjou.
As a supporter of DH, his specialty is combating Christianity and liberalism and showing how Islam is a better alternative. But in a purely theological debate he'd be lacking.
Good call .. he is an atheist. And his comments do, according to orthodox Islam, take him out of the fold of islam.
😂😂😂 12:42 look up Islamic Golden Age, basically the springboard for the development of all human civilisation
Mostly thanks to Persians.
@@yaqubebased1961 Persians, Greeks, and Romans.
Thats a misinterpretation and propagandistic view of history
The "Islamic Golden Age" was simply the absorption of the ancient knowledge from Mediterranean and Near-Eastern peoples that had recently been conquered by Arabs
In other words, these various disciplines in science, math, architecture, politics and rhetoric had already existed for millenia in Egypt, Greece, Rome and Persia...and then they were conquered by Arabs
@@joecool9739 the Islamic golden age was the process of building upon the knowledge Muslims discovered after conquering those lands, Greek, Indian, Persian, Roman and more. Just look at all the Muslim thinkers who made great contributions to areas like math, astronomy, medicine, geography, travel, warfare and so much more
@@umaryusuf537
I think all of that stuff had already existed
They didnt discover anything themselves
What is Muslim society contributing to math, science, medicine and art today?
PBD reza really isn't the best Muslim to have on. Maybe consider Hamza Yusuf? Mohammed hijab?
but that would be EXPOSING BOTH Peter & Reza marketing of Twelverism, The whole piont is to keep pumping Joe Rogan like content, Where Muslim topics are mysticized to prevent people to ponder about failure of Westernizing Muslims which lead to current situations we know today. Realizing laicite & liberalism as cancerous to Muslim Societies allows the conversation to move forward to relook what is the actual issues.
First time I ever disagree with Reza. I’m an Atheist and the way he envisions that is just plain wrong (min. 14). An atheist does not have necessarily have to be a materialist. Not believing in gods ABSOLUTELY doesn’t mean you don’t have AT LEAST an emocional realm to you. No, the only reality for me IS NOT the empirical. It can be emotional, spiritual, absolutely. I too believe there is something else besides the material world. And that is US, our minds, our emotions. I don’t need Noah Harari to explain this to you. You are plain wrong. Oh. And also, in reality, an atheist, I’m afraid, as much as it pains me to side with the panel. But I still love your work.
This is a BIG PBD L. Such intelligence in finance, too bad he hasn’t done his homework on religion.
If you think all the religions are the same. You haven't really studied them at all. Christianity is set apart from all of them.
Very Deep. Great exchange of ideas gentlemen!
It is not true that the Bible is an attempt of man to do anything. It's a work of God, and it's not an attempt, it's a gift. He did it.
Patrick, this is one of the most profound, interesting, and educational interviews i have seen you do....speaking from someone that grew up as a catholic but religion not a big part of my life. Well done sir.
Patrick exposed him for not being Muslim, so How is discussing islam with someone who is lying about being Muslim, educational and profound?
@@lowang9708 So we are suppose to be believe you instead. Get lost dude.
@@sirairili1570 are you kidding? Did he tell u to believe him like how did you come with this conclusion?
He's right, you shouldn't be learning from someone who doesn't know what he's talking about. Even Patrick had to expose him for that
@@lowang9708 I didnt say it was educational and profound because i necessarily agree with either one of them, the subject and what was discussed was educational about religion and the different perspectives about it. Im not here to pick sides, i dont really care, just found the subject interesting as alot of podcasts out there are not.
@@captainpurr-fect5057 He is claiming Reza lied.
Patrick says that he takes a risk as a Christian. That doesn't sound like faith to me.
