i got mine done yesterday --january 18, 2020 -and am typing one-handed. thus, no capitals. so far, so good. no pain to speak of. maybe a little worse than before the surgery. but then it's only been 30 hours and most likely the nerve block hasn't worn off. i am hoping for the best, however. i got it done at 7 thirty and was home by 4 pm. i only got a few hours of sleep because i was so wired. i am 71 years old and wore my shoulder out by a lifetime of abuse -tennis in high school and college, throwing balls, shooting baskets, and years and years of table tennis. its been years since i was one of the top players and the newer players have no recall of that because most weren't around to witness it. it is my fantasy that i will shock the hell out of those young punks in about six months. wish me luck.
It's been about seven months. I am playing table tennis again and I am playing Pickleball, which is a new sport for me. I am able to play without pain, but there is tightness when I raise my arm over my head. All in all, I am pleased. I live my everyday life without any pain in my shoulder. The Doc says it will be much better one year after surgery. I am hopeful. As for throwing a baseball . . . I definitely don't have the arm I use to have. But who knows what the future will bring. If you are in pain all the time, I definitely - based upon my experience - recommend doing this. Good Luck!
I have been waiting for eight years to have a total shoulder replacement. I have already had three operations. One on my right shoulder and two on my left shoulder. My left shoulder wasn't really that bad until I had my first operation. It was done by a trainee surgeon at a teaching hospital. He destroyed my shoulder, and I ended up with a 3mm rotator cuff tear and all my tendons snapped. After the operation, the surgeon who was teaching the trainee refused to examine me and said there was nothing he could do. I was forced to see a second surgeon who was unable to repair the damage done. For eight years I have been trying to find a surgeon who could do the operation, four years ago I found a surgeon who said he could replace my left and right shoulders. I then had a heart attack when I was due to go into hospital. My operation was cancelled for a year. I had a pre-assessment before the next operation admission, where I was told my HBA1C reading of 70 was too high. My appointment was once again cancelled for a year. When I was due to have my third operation I once again had a pre-assessment and once again my Hba1c was 70 and once again my operation was cancelled. I have had to wait another year and now I am due to go into hospital on September 2023. The problem is I have to once again go for an assessment and I am dreading the HBA1C test. I have been a type 2 diabetic for 46 years. I am on insulin and my diabetes is well-controlled. However, I must be doing something wrong to get these results. I wish I knew what it was so I can put it right. I have seen doctors and diabetes-trained doctors and they are no help whatsoever. God help me.

It's been five weeks today since my shoulder replacement surgery. So far, so good! I'm doing passive exercises prescribed by my physical therapist, but that is it for the time being. I was told to resist the temptation to "test" the shoulder to see "what it can do." That has been proven to be good advice. Right now, I am just supposed to keep the shoulder moving a bit while the tendon attaches to the bone. At six weeks, I will be given exercises to regain range of motion, and at twelve weeks, I will begin to rebuild strength. Anyway, that is what I understand to be the upcoming regiment. Keeping my fingers crossed.
my surgery took 5 and a half hours! i had it done 4 months ago ! it was a reverse shoulder replacement! and physical therapy was 3 months and i went 3 times a week! my surgeon doesnt want me to do any jerky movements but 4 months in and im doing yard work and gardening again!
I Had shoulder resurfacing in Sept 2015 I took Arnica tablets a few days before surgery to lessen bruising and the op has been a fantastic success so far 11weeks no pain at all .That could be down to the surgeon and I couldn't be more pleased

Dr I've just had shoulder replacement, one side is metal and one side is plastic and my surgeon said I could not ever train again. So I'm shocked what you have said? But happy if u could train again.
Looking very forward to getting mine done. For a better quality of life.

Wow! I'm having a total reverse shoulder replacement tomorrow. I'm a 55 yr old mother, wife and now Grandma. I'm scared to death because appx 9 yrs ago I'd had a repair on my other shoulder from a bad fall that obliviated my rotator cuff, in fact the surgeon said 1/3rd of it was just gone literally. The surgery left me in pain I've NEVER known and 7 month's of recovery! I've searched video's non stop for weeks now looking to have so many question's answered and finally, I just found YOU TWO! I see that the video is older but, the question's are still the same for me! Procedures etc are probably different and maybe even better now hopefully as well but, the post-op pain is my WORST fear right now after the last surgery. Thank you for asking all the important question's and thank you for all the honest answers! I REALLY NEEDED THIS today! Oh the timing,.....the nurse just called to say 'be here at 9:15a.m. Now I know how many hours I have left to work myself into a calmer state,.....hopefully!!!?

@@thuanho744 Hi Thuan, I was scared too 'as you read' but. I'm HAPPY to report it's going so much better and a lot different than my past surgery had! Yesterday was my 2 week post-op date and I've come so far and I'm ahead of the game with my physical therapy! The first week and a half it did hurt quite a bit. I took Tylenol and still do, every 4 hour's and the prescription I was given, I chose to take with Tylenol only at night, ...to sleep. With the drug problem we face now they don't give you much medication so I chose to use it where it mattered most to me, at night! Ice is very important also and just doing what they ask of you. I was shocked how soon I could sleep in my own bed and do things around the house (with my non-surgical arm of course). By Nov. 11th I won't need the sling and can drive after that if I'm able to open/close my car door without messing around with that shoulder! I was able to shower by myself after the 4th or 5th day home, my husband had assisted me for the first one as I was terrified of falling. The suture's were removed this past Monday and they took fresh x-ray's and everything looks perfect the surgeon said! Now it's a matter of intense physical therapy 2 times a week including aquatic at a facility, but I also have therapy I do myself in the house every day, a few times daily. It's exhausting honestly but my range of motion was already 125 when the therapist laid me down and brought my arm up and over my head. I was thrilled! The other ranges were very good also, out to the side etc etc. If you have any other questions please reach out, I totally get it!!!! I'm happy to answer anything I can for you! @@thuanho744 I live in Vermont. the BEST advice I can give you is to look up all of the surgeons who do this around you and check their track records! Choose the best one you can find! It matters!!!

It has been almost eight weeks and, again, so far so good. I started doing the shoulder pulley this week. It passively raises my shoulder. It seems to be helping as my arm feels very natural, except that I am not able to raise it over my head. I am not supposed to do that, and I haven't tried, but I can just tell I wouldn't be able to do it even if I tried.
Wow, I'm 2 week post-op and my surgeon already has me doing the pulley!!!! I do like 14 different excersizes! No wonder i'm so exhausted!!!!
How long does it take to be normal?
@@thuanho744 By 3 month's we should be able to do most anything we normally do but after a full year is the magic number as they say. It's all the smallest thing's that need the full year to get back to normal. They told me that with my full knee replacement also. I was laid up for 3 month's and then went right back to work at my cleaning business, very hard work! After the full year though it was like it never happened,...except when the weather changes, ...you do feel it, achy, but Tylenol will take care of it, some heat and or ice if need be when you're resting. Either way, it's so much better than the pain I was in before and could barley walk at all!

Just remember you will never be 100% after the surgery but you will in time you will be much better than before. I didn't happen over night and won't be fixed over night either.

I am 54 year old woman. I have shoulder surgery 5 months ago because tendon tear. It was ok to 4 and half months my doctor said it was supposed to be good by now but I had slot of pain. Do he sent to take MRI and it shows infection. Last week I had surgery again to clean fluid. My doctor said the infection causes bone so I have to replace the shoulder after they clear infection. I am so scared about the shoulder replacement. Someone please let me know about it. There is a lot of pain and scar tissue ?

If you have a really good surgeon, all of things will be taken care of. Infection is always a risk with any surgery. I got a bad infection with a gall bladder removal year's ago, it was awful. This shoulder surgery should fix everything you're dealing with.
Also, they will give you antibiotic's and going to your dentist will only be allowed at certain points before and after surgery to avoid the risk of infection that way as well. After my knee replacement 3 years ago, I have to take antibiotic's before every dentist appointment, for the rest of my life. Some surgeons will say a year, other's 6 month's,...they are all different. The pain of this replacement surgery is getting better everyday :) It's only been two weeks and Tylenol takes care of my pain along with ice.
I just had this surgery and I learned more from this video than anything my physicians P.A. would tell me.
Mine has to be done soon I'm Scaired to death. It is a reverse replacement. Does the cracking stop after surgery????
okay, it's been 54 hours since my surgery, and so far, so good. very little pain, but then, maybe the verve block is still keeping the pain at bay. i hope not, but at this point, I really don't know. physical therapy starts tomorrow. we'll have a better idea of what is happening after that.

I need a total reverse right shoulder replacement within the next 6 months, but i have severe RSD which has muscle spasms I must see an neu3 md before the surgery. Mr orttho md is very concerned about the RSD and the spasms,i am in severe pain every day, unable to move my right arm and shoulder, so I really need this surgery, only hope i can get the spasms and RSD treatment ,I can not go like less every day,Prayers are in my favor

I love my new shoulder. It's perfect. Unfortunately, I sustained permanent nerve damage to the median and ulnar nerves in my hand. I suspect this was an unintended consequence of the nerve block. That said, the shoulder itself is really excellent.

Becky Ayers I had it done last year and thank god the pain before the was truly bad, after the the op the pain was different within 6weeks I was up and running about. Writing from Scotland 67 year old women . thank goodness he had you to fetch and carry him . Take care.
Talk about sugar coating a very serious surgery with an extremely unstable shoulder joint. Several of my patients can throw a ball.......what about ‘most’?
