You know, just watching you picking up the mortar chippings from the old demolished pillar demonstrates how careful you are about paying attention to details. And that's the difference you and Alex make, another good day at the office!
Steve before you throw the mixer away, when was the last time you serviced it? Smell of burning plastic could be the pulley cogs. When I serviced mine I replaced the belt and two plastic cogs. Was about £30 for belt and pulley cogs. Might be worth a look before you throw it?
Hi Steve. Another masterclass in pillar building. The amount of times you check the cap was level, really shows how much you care. Keep them coming Steve. 👍
As simple as they look , pillars are the true test if a bricklayer . If all the perps ain't spreading wider towards the top you can be sure its gonna be plumb . 👍
Bought a 240vac from Screwfix some years ago. Used it to build a double garage / plaster. had to replace the motor last year (used a washing machine motor - lol) works a treat!
Morning Steve. Freezing morning here in Scotland as you probably know. Seems to getting it worse in England. Good job with the reinforcement. It will not come down quite as quick the next time. I wonder if had if it was hit before. Sounds as though its a busy road. It will be great when electric motors come in for folk living in the main road. A simple job done right.
Get yourself a new mixer and keep the old one as a second. You never know the day may come where you and Alex are on separate jobs and need both. It will also come in handy when you mix your own concrete for foundations as you can run both at the same time.
Would having a centre brick sunk down by half a course add much more strength? Just a thought as I watched this, all the joints would be staggered between the internal and external courses? Also did you consider drilling down a bit so the rebar was deeper or maybe adding an L/J bend to the end?, good job on doubling up with the off cut though.
Very nice pillar! All square and tidy and while the whole pillar may come out if hit with a truck, it won't fall apart with that steel in it. By the way, I can't seem to find, here in the USA, a decent brick spacing tape measure. I can find wood folding rules but no tape measures. I"ll order one from UK if I can find one! Can you suggest a source? Thanks, Pete
Have you ever done a twisting pillar or similarly highly decorative brickwork? If so will you share some pictures or video and a commentary on now it was built?
Great video. Only comment would be for a privacy point of view that your customers might appreciate it in future video’s if you blur their registration numbers but the brick work is amazing as always
@@SteveAndAlexBuild wow weve got it so bad down south. Used to be able to get rid of bricks for free. Now bricks and plasterboard cost using a car. Vans cant even go in the tip 😒
@Bricklaying With Steve and Alex as part of my job I done demolition as well so yeah it is some times doing things like hand balling bricks from one place to another people ain't got a clue about the weights in there I had to make sure the trucks wasn't over loaded
Nice job 👍🏼👍🏼 1 1/2 piers are not much good for gates, need 2 x 1. Though they may decide not to rehang the gate now anyway. I’ve lost track of how many fence repairs I’ve done over the years as an insurance repairer. Most have been pier and sections but some have been isolated dividing piers like this.

Top job, just a query, wod you bother with damp proof, above the frost line,

Just a quick question. How long should concrete footing cure before building a 4ft double skin front garden wall?
Concrete is ready within 24 hours 🧱👍🏽

In your opinion does that rebar offer much strength if it isn’t encased in concrete?

If the rebar is not fixed into the concrete footing, it's about as useful as a astray on a motorcycle.
It was
Rebar to shallow. Serves no purpose
No its not
