Thank you that was very helpful! I learned this odd drum-major style conducting for 5/4 but this makes much more sense. I think the method i picked up was so it could be better seen across the field
I assume you're talking about 4/4 time signature with the 3+2 clave rhythm on top of that. I see no value in conducting the clave rhythm, just stay in 4 and if you want accent the clave rhythm with your left (nondominant) hand.
@@MichaelMillerWriter Hi! I mean 5/4 time but the beat feels syncopated, ie. mission impossible theme, where theres 4 beats, but the first two are dotted, hence adding up to 5.
@@Jwellsuhhuh I suppose you could conduct the syncopated accents. Personally, I'd conduct the 1 and the 4 as the dominant beats. There's no wrong way to do it, whatever works best for a given setting.

for 5/4 clave songs, it it better to conduct in 4/4 but with syncopated rhythm? my music teacher does this
